Everyone else got to stop training when they could succeed, and Mercedes was showing up late to an afternoon training session because she slept in that morning. Mercedes had a point that Schuester treated his favored students (Rachel, Finn, Kurt) better, but her being treated "the worst" was a mixture of her own bad attitude and relatively low skill. Plus at the time she was being especially and intentionally troublesome because her then-boyfriend, Shane, was egging her on to do so.
Honestly the whole Marley-bulimia plot line was so infuriating. They handeled such a delicate subject so poorly and acted like we were supposed to forgive Kitty, who’s a fcking demon btw. She has no redeeming qualities and pushed Marley to being fcking bulimic.
It liked to portray itself as progressive but it really wasn't. So many problematic moments like this one that are never addressed, which contributes to normalizing bigotry. Ryan Murphy, the producer, has been called out many times in his more recent shows for his racism and misogyny.

I mean, the song is kinda sleazy but some women do actually send mixed messages/play hard to get which is what I think the song was attempting to get across (very poorly) but assuming that you know what somebody wants for their body more than they do is still fucked. It was a hit for that year though, and goes always covered the top songs. It was just a bad decision.

Alex M I think it’s supposed to be like that, Im sure I’ve seen an interview where it says the casting directors liked that Cory wasn’t the best at singing. Hes not a big star with a voice like Lea’s and then it gets better as the series goes on. Makes him more relatable I think

I like Glee, and Will, but there's pretty much one moment every episode where I'm like "What are you doing?", "Get your hands off your student", "Why have you not been fired?", etc.

He hasn't been 'fired' because the kids love him too much, if they had a problem they would've reported it. And if he was fired the kids would've shown up at his house for private Glee sessions and that would be creepy
