    Just wanted to add a comment and say you Rock! Your videos are thorough, well edited and VERY much appreciated. My 2004 ML350 washer nozzles were dribbling. Now they make it Rain. Mine were clogged with remnants of my old washer reservoir

    EXCELLENT WRENCH YOU ARE!!! I needed two motors, new hose, but the check valve was the issue. So I guess if I eliminate this check valve, I will get water on my windshield under hard accelration? what else may be issue? I guess I'll take it out and see what happens before I glue it back together! Great calming voice, , you are very knowledgeable THANKs!

    • @L35inColorado
      @L35inColorado  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, those check valves get clogged rather easily, and once they are clogged, they first greatly reduce the flow to the nozzles, then they'll block flow altogether. As far as I know, the system is just the pumps, hoses, check valves, and sprayers/nozzles, so if you've eliminated the pumps, check valves, and sprayers/nozzles, then I would check the hoses. There might be a leaky hose, or an obstructed/bent hose. Good luck!

    When I did washer tank replacement I didn’t even check if my pumps worked , before I knew the windshield pump was bad thinking I didn’t need one I went on eBay & purchased the parts I needed separately from 4 different sellers . new tank , lid , 2 new rubber grommets for pumps ,1 rubber plug , then went and got 2 jugs rainX washer fluid from AutoZone the total cost was $93 for everything, the 2 rubber grommets for the pumps were $15 , little did I know I could have bought 2 grommets & 2 new pumps for $8 each . I hate overlooking shit like this cause in the long run it all adds up
    Edit ( got lucky & was able to reuse the original sensor & rubber grommet for it as it was the only bit of rubber on the tank not dry rotted )

    Many thanks for alerting me to the check-valve. One point - how about opening the valve with a small flat blade screwdriver rather than the large knife - I also think a little heat ( got water ) may help prevent the tabs on the valve breaking when lifted. Excellent vid though.

      I have put items like this in a small bowl of heated water to soften them up to avoid breaking the older plastic. The heat helps revitalize the plasticizers.

      @@L35inColorado you’re welcome. One last question if I may: how do you manage to get all the data and torque specs on this model? I have an 04 ML500 and you can’t get manuals for this car.

    • @L35inColorado
      @L35inColorado  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@aptechknowledge The source for the data is the MB WIS (Workshop Information System). I have access to and old version of WIS via an old laptop, but if I need a value, I first search the BenzWorld.org forum (note - it's ".org", not ".com"), because I can do that from my phone anywhere.
      I search that forum in particular because there's a member there ("43sqd") who has been posting WIS pdf's of various repairs for years - there are dozens and dozens of important WIS pdf's that he's posted for anyone to see, which is really great. Here's a real world example from last night of what I do:
      Last night I need the torque spec for the power steering pump mounting bolts on a W163. I typed this below into the google search bar:
      site:www.benzworld.org w163 power steering pump replacement
      That format is a way of searching a specific site (site:www.benzworld.org") for a specific phrase ("power steering pump replacement"). The first result of that search is this page from the Benzworld.org forum:
      www.benzworld.org/threads/power-steering-pump-removal-instructions.1883369/
      Click on that, and you'll see that 43sqd has posted two pdf's related to the inquiry. The "R&I" means "remove and install". They are both WIS documents. Click on the first and scroll to the last page, and there are the torque specs in Nm.
      I really don't like the format of WIS: it is very cumbersome and clunkly, and is mostly just words and numbers, very few images. I much prefer Toyota's style of repair manual, which details each step and includes lots of drawings/images. But it does include torque values.
      If you'd like to buy access to WIS (perhaps a day pass?), I would think there's a way to do it, but I don't know how. MB puts some of the info online, such as this below - you can see it is very cumbersome:
      manual.startekinfo.com/manual/JSP/e4/9_4/content.jsp
      But they do post a helpful DTC page here (example, M113 engine):
      manual.startekinfo.com/manual/JSP/e4/9_4/content.jsp
      I hope that helps! : )

    Nice presentation L35 in Colorado great explanatory summary.My issue is how on Lords blue earth do I get wee small tab out to clean, mine already knackered by someone.
    Ebay have had very few but £20 and 14.95 shipping is robbery to me.

    • @L35inColorado
      @L35inColorado  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they are ridiculously expensive! As I showed in the video (04:51), I just break the plastic under the tab, using a pocket knife, then lift the broken part and slide the tab under the broken part, then pull the ends apart. Even if you totally break the little part under the tab, you can always tape it together, or even glue it.
      Thanks for the comment, and good luck!

    I have an 09 W164. the pump is good. It runs fine on 12V drawing 1.6A. It is not getting 12V. I cannot figure out which relay/fuse powers it. There is NO mention of it on my fuse/relay diagrams. Any toughts, please?

    • @L35inColorado
      @L35inColorado  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry that's happening, and I'm sorry that I missed your comment -- unfortunately, I don't have any information on the W164. If there is not a specific fuse/relay that controls the motor, the motor may be controlled by the AAM, and diagnosing the AAM can be a bit of a headache (at least it is on the W163). Perhaps you can make a new post over at www.benzworld.org (note: "org" not "com") -- there are lots of helpful and highly knowledgeable MB owners there who might be able to figure it out! Good luck!

    Great video, thank you very much! I’ve replaced both pumps and the reservoir to find that the old small reservoir pieces that broke are now clogged in the check valve. The rear washer barely worked when I bought the car and now doesn’t work at all. I am assuming there is 1 check valve for the front 3 sprayers and 1 check valve for the rear sprayer, correct? And is the part # good for both of these check valves? Thank you!

    • @L35inColorado
      @L35inColorado  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, as far as I know, there are just two check valves (one in front, one in back) and they are the same part number. You can also open, clean, and re-use them, as shown in the video. Be sure to use the method to clean the hoses (06:25), otherwise the little bits will just clog up the check valves again, as it takes very little to clog those valves. Good luck : )

    Thanks for outlining this work. Is the stupid check valve necessary? Can you just put in a straight barbed connector?

    • @L35inColorado
      @L35inColorado  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you can do that but I think the check valve serves to prevent contamination from reaching and clogging the three sprayers, and I don't think that there's any other device in the hose to catch contamination except the check valve. So you can remove it and connect the hoses with a barb, but you'd want to be sure your reservoir fluid is clean and there's no contamination that might end up at the sprayers, because the sprayers have such tiny nozzles that they might not be easily cleaning if clogged. I hope that helps!
