Just had a thought...I`m guessing that Australian customs will want to keep my mushroom kits in Australia, so if the winner is from outside Australia, I`ll find a nice bonus prize for you ;-)
I counted 40! What a fantastic channel, I love all your videos, and love when you said ' be entertained, be educated and be inspired.' I'm currently putting together a mini environment for hopefully some oyster mushrooms to grow!
You are speak so relax 😮 it's easy understand.. I'm learning English.. and l like this topics .. plants.. trees.. garden.. flowers .. etc. so.. for my his channel is really cool .. thanks from Mexico
Mr.Weedy- love your short films. National Geographic/ Discovery quality. Would like very much to give mushrooms a go in my garden. I counted 44 times. Wish me luck
I've just come across your channel for the first time and I am really enjoying your videos, I find them so relaxing and inspiring, you go that extra mile in explaining things clearly, I have a question please, I am in the UK btw, if I have store bought woodchips or bark, would I still have to wash it? Or would it be ok to use straight from the bag? Thank you in advance, new subscriber here :)
Amazing thing spawn is. I've purchase one of those bags and managed to replicate it to the point I didn't know what to do with it XD I've learned too much water and you'll drown it; merely a soaked hay for a few minutes is more than enough to seal a bag and watch it grow *ejem* and never buy more spawn ever again *ejem* Thanks for the amazing video, looking forward to an update and a happy 1st flush!!!
So amazing and so many questions...No other mushroom gardening video talked about sterilizing the wood chips. If you can't sterilize wood shavings or sawdust because it's just not practical, and it is used as a substrate, why does wood chips need sterilizing? Is there something inherently different specifically with wood chips requiring that process while other substrates don't? Thanks for sharing your inspiring life.
Just yesterday I was telling some friends that I needed a mentor to help me understand how to grow mushrooms. And here you are! I am surprise I have not seen your channel before! My lovely tulip tree was blown over and I saved a lot of logs from it to plant mushroom plugs into it. I am so excited to learn and learn and learn!!! 43 mushrooms!
Thank you this movie preview make me have tears of happiness! Great teacher on mushrooms. Love how you toss stuff out than an grow when you cut the herbs!
Competition is over and we have a winner. Watch the next episode to find out how many it was! Heads up mushroom growers! I say "mushroom spores" every time I should have said "Mushroom spawn". For those interested in correct terms, and the purpose of propper words, this is for you: Mushroom spawn and mushroom spores are two different stages in the life cycle of a mushroom, and they serve different purposes in the cultivation of mushrooms. Here's a breakdown of the differences between them: Definition: Mushroom Spawn: Mushroom spawn refers to a substrate that has been inoculated with mushroom mycelium, which is the vegetative part of the fungus. Spawn acts as the starting point for mushroom cultivation, providing the mycelium with a nutrient-rich environment to grow and develop. Mushroom Spores: Mushroom spores are tiny reproductive structures produced by mature mushrooms. They are released into the environment and can serve as the means of reproducing the mushroom species. Spores are often used to create new strains or varieties of mushrooms. Purpose: Mushroom Spawn: Spawn is used to establish and propagate a specific strain or variety of mushroom. It provides a controlled and consistent source of mycelium for inoculating a growing medium (such as substrate or logs) to cultivate mushrooms. Mushroom Spores: Spores are used primarily for the reproduction and propagation of mushroom species in a more natural, diverse, or experimental way. They can be used to create spore prints, which are used to study the morphology of the spores and to create new mycelium cultures. Size and Visibility: Mushroom Spawn: Spawn is typically more visible and tangible than spores. It consists of mycelium-infused substrate, which can be seen as a white, web-like network within the substrate. Mushroom Spores: Spores are microscopic and not visible to the naked eye. They are released by mature mushrooms and can be collected on various surfaces, such as paper, to create spore prints. Cultivation Process: Mushroom Spawn: To cultivate mushrooms using spawn, you typically mix the spawn with a suitable growing medium (e.g., compost, straw, wood chips) to create favorable conditions for mushroom growth. The mycelium from the spawn colonizes the growing medium and eventually produces mushrooms. Mushroom Spores: Cultivating mushrooms from spores is more involved and requires additional steps. Spores are used to create a spore syringe or spore print, which is then used to inoculate a sterile substrate. The mycelium must grow from the spores before mushrooms can be produced. In summary, mushroom spawn is a more advanced and convenient way to cultivate specific mushroom varieties, as it provides established mycelium for inoculation. Mushroom spores, on the other hand, are primarily used for research, breeding, or for growing mushrooms in a more natural or experimental context, but they require more steps and patience to develop into mature mushrooms.
Having that equipment assures a grower that they can secure a harvest, and make a living. I am only going to eat mushrooms when it is 20 degrees outside. 😋
I counted 40 times that you said mushroom or mushrooms. I love your videos!! When I discovered your channel, I binge watched them all. When my youngest granddaughter visited I played several for her. She’s only 5, but she was fascinated. ❤
My bad friend. Yes. I realised after writing this that I can’t see if you are subscribed if you have chosen to keep your subscriptions private. All good 👍 You’re in it 💜🍄👍
42 times you said mushroom. I follow you on multiple platforms since day one. Love the garden, love the vibe and please keep up the amazing work you do! Thank you for sharing my friend. Cheers
Awwww, Weedy, Mate! You really are the Pied Piper of the gardening world. I was not keen on friendly bugs or worms (100 % gardening with gloves) but you made me want to vermicompost and keep bees; I loved rain in my garden but not on me while gardening, and you made me enjoy feeling that cooling rain and squelching in the mud, now you are making me want to go and study all the fungus growing....Weedy Magic! Thanks for another lesson.
Weedy, I have enjoyed watching your videos for a few years now. My favorite was the one you labored all day to create a romantic evening for your wife. It showed the rest of us how much you love, respect, and appreciate her. That, my friend, is the most valuable gift; more valuable than the most exspensive jewelry and lavish vacation in some exotic place on our planet. I love watching and learning your techniques and your explanation of the science behind them.
Super cool. I love your content and I’ve been wanting to learn to grow my own shrooms. Thanks for your video. I watched it three times so I could get the number of times you said mushroom/s. I counted 41. Great video. Can’t wait to see the updates.
Haha what a spectacular video. Such a joy to watch and see your passion for this flow so naturally through you. I especially loved the echo effect you added as you stuck your head in the mushroom tent!
Oh my hat! The excitement I felt seeing this video from Weedy!!! YESSS!! Just a heads up with the Wine Caps - You are going to find them all over in the coming years. They like to spread themselves around 😅
Hi Weedy, I have been watching your channel for quite some time now and I'm always learning something new. I cannot wait til i have my own backyard space to start my own gardening journey! I have wanted to grow my own mushrooms for the longest time so I thank you for the opportunity to grow my own with this competition. I counted 41 times you said mushroom or mushrooms🍄 Never stop what you do, you inspire so many people 🌱💚🌿🍃
Love what your doing. I live in the Pacific Northwest. Mushrooms grow between our toes here. Every dairy, even the lawn....im surrounded by oak and maple. Could you do a video thats more simplistic for home food production in my climate? It sounds like it might be even easier here and i could save a couple steps as long as i do the right steps. Thx!
Hi Weedy, can't get over how your accent sounds so Maori ! Absolutely love the gentle way you present gardening information, making it so achievable for beginners and inspirational for jaded gardeners like me. Anyway, could only count mushroom/s said 39 times.
Hi chef ! Nothing more than greetings from a Mauritius Island follower, A little message to thank you and encourage you in what you do. I fell in love with permaculture 2 years ago and I am soon launching my own “life” project. From my point of view, this lifestyle has so much meaning for humanity, that I wish it to all those who want to find themselves. Your way of sharing what you experience is unique and absolutely magnificent. Thank you for simply being who you are. Cheers Mate ;) -Axel
I got 41 🍄💚 I had to go back and listen again. I love mushrooms - haven’t met one I didn’t like yet. I’m a new fan of your channel, and really appreciate an Australian perspective for gardening and landcare. I love your trailer by the way. I love Mother Earth wearing green too!
@@heartheath hello Mrs Weedy! I love your garden and hope to do something similar in the next year or so. Absolutely can’t wait to get out of the city and back to the land. Thank you for your warm welcome ♥️🍄♥️🌞
This method of creating beneficial bacteria for your soil is great, it is actually very beneficial. Your work creates happiness in itself. Thank you very much.
MORNING :) mushrooms 41 times 2 times written ......... but geez its hard to concentrate i find that your voice and watching you garden very mesmerising calming thank you again for a great video.
I love your passion and you taught me a lot about biology now im cultivating my own LAB, so much work put into your videos and i get to watch for free, thanks 👍🏻
I got 41 times of mushroom / mushrooms, and I've got some spare short gum tree logs, and some still connected, but dying gum (big) branches in my little little back yard and now can think of the perfect use for them! Love your channel.
You make it look doable. Cant wait to see the update! I wish we had a mushroom farm i could use to avoid those plastic small containers. I also am to afraid of inoculating my house and my small yard in the city. Maybe i can convince my townspeople to put some of these around. Its moldy enough where i live and the construction/real estate men 'don't' see it as a problem. Cant wait to watch ur video!!!!
I didn't keep track of how many times you said "mushroom" but I did start coming up with jokes that had the punch line "That's the last straw". This was a great video, I learned stuff and you're becoming my favorite "nature/garden narrator".
Another wonderful informative video. I am going to order a couple of kits for my garden. I have never thought of growing mushrooms until watching this. Your wisdom and ideas David are in so many of our gardens all around the world. Never stop this is one of my favourite TH-cam channels and what’s better it’s Australian content from the area where I grew up.
Very inspiring. I’ve been thinking about growing my own here at my rural bee sanctuary but was worried about the Australian summer heat. Now, I can try my hand at growing these beauties. Just subscribed. Thank you 🙂
Weedy, this is third video I watch on your channel and its beautiful! Your taste of music, lifestyle and your personality. The love in what you are doing, in every little detail. Even when you add echo effect on your voice (haha I am an editor as well) also brings some kinda of home atmosphere. Your channel really makes me relax, even being in another country for many years and not seeing my friends and family from Ukraine, this channel and your soul in it makes me feel a little bit like I am at home. This is not just the video of how to grow your own mushrooms, its the whole philosophy of life. I subscribed your channel in the first 3 minutes. Thanks mate for sharing this! Hopefully one day I will visit Australia and see all of it personally! Good luck and have a great day!
Bloody hell Weedy, I’ve been up since 4.45 am & now you’ve got me watching your magnificent mini mushy movie over & over! Thank god we didn’t have to count how many times you got straw wrong too, cos I had a hard enough time trying to count mushrooms! Anyway, I got 41. I’m probably wrong, but I hope not cos I was just looking to buy some on the weekend! Keep up the excellent work Weedy, you’re a gem 🙃
Thanks Weedy for this great video simplifying mushroom growing! I've always wanted to know this. I'm not too geographically far from you, also very slowly starting my permaculture patch up in midcoast NSW. I think you said Mushroom(s) 40 TIMES. Would love a kit to try it out! Also couple of ideas: (1) there might be an opportunity to try either a 80watt UV-C lamp or 12v Ozone O3 generator (about AU$120), run for 2 to 4hrs or longer in an enclosed space for wood chips/logs etc, which would Fully Sterilise them. I use them to kill mould and damp smells in all corners of the house and furniture, about once every 1 or 2 months when heavily humid/damp, while we have exited the house ofcourse. Works a Charm! So Ozone, may help scale up production surplus. I've also successfully used O3 to clean/filter rancid brown ditch water, with O3 + lime + sand + charcoal, to a drinking potable standard. Easier than we might think. O3 is pretty powerful and can be run off a solar panel. (2) could we use beeswax instead, to cover the mushroom spawn plugs? Fantastic video, thanks again!
I think you said it 40 times. I really find your videos inspiring and fascinating and I love to binge watch them all. Your attitude is amazing and it makes me laugh thank you for being awesome
Heck yea!! I’ve always wanted to learn to grow mushrooms. I just got my fall plants going so I’ll start researching in learning hood to gross mushrooms during the fall and then BBS ready to go next spring. Thank you my friend. Love the videos. Keep em coming.
Loved the video makes me smile everytime someone starts growing mushrooms. What you used was called spawn, you innoculated with myceliated grain. That is to say there were no spores whatsoever (it's why kits can be shipped all around the world). The spores themselves will come from the mushroom caps and will look dusty if they pile up :). Enjoy! PS. Wine caps loce star much as well and are GREAT in between rows of a garden.
You're such an inspiration for me. We're still saving up for some land, but we plan to grow as much as we can. I showed my dad your fruit tree planting method and it's worked amazing for him. THANK YOU 🥰
I can't wait for that movie that was the best intro I've seen in a long time
Why wait?
Perfect timing as I just bought my second grow kit and spawns ❤. Great video as usual David. Love from California mate.
Just had a thought...I`m guessing that Australian customs will want to keep my mushroom kits in Australia, so if the winner is from outside Australia, I`ll find a nice bonus prize for you ;-)
That’s exciting!! Fingers crossed 😍
Praying 🙏🏻
Eggcitied 😉
Good that I moved to Australia before the giveaway : ))
Wish I lived there a lot of the times, off grid of course
U also cover the ends to hold moisture in, and use should stagger your holes so u don’t have to use so much spawn. Also works to use fresh cut logs
Wonderful content (: I’m starting my journey and these videos are a life saver!!!
Great video Weedy thankyou 😊

Oh , that was lovely! No walk-in freezers, no expensive monitering equipment... And as always, your video was delightful to watch.
Having that equipment assures a grower that they can secure a harvest, and make a living. I am only going to eat mushrooms when it is 20 degrees outside. 😋
Another excellent video! "straw" LOL you make me smile
😁

I’m probably wrong, but I hope not cos I was just looking to buy some on the weekend! Keep up the excellent work Weedy, you’re a gem 🙃
Onya mate.
It is bees wax 👍 Thanks also for the tip 💪🏻
I think you said it 40 times. I really find your videos inspiring and fascinating and I love to binge watch them all. Your attitude is amazing and it makes me laugh thank you for being awesome

I know nothing about foraging for shrooms...yet
@@TheWeedyGarden its fun when you go out in the woods and learn about shrooms
Heck yea!! I’ve always wanted to learn to grow mushrooms. I just got my fall plants going so I’ll start researching in learning hood to gross mushrooms during the fall and then BBS ready to go next spring. Thank you my friend. Love the videos. Keep em coming.
you want to play the game?
Loved the video makes me smile everytime someone starts growing mushrooms. What you used was called spawn, you innoculated with myceliated grain. That is to say there were no spores whatsoever (it's why kits can be shipped all around the world). The spores themselves will come from the mushroom caps and will look dusty if they pile up :). Enjoy!
PS. Wine caps loce star much as well and are GREAT in between rows of a garden.
Thanks for that. Appreciate it. Spores are the dust, spawn is the white hairy stuff 👍 Gottit
You said it 40 times or so Mr Weedy. Thanks for your inspirational channel mate
Or so is only a half each way and I don`t think I said mush, or rooms at any point, so we`ll stick with 40.
You're such an inspiration for me. We're still saving up for some land, but we plan to grow as much as we can. I showed my dad your fruit tree planting method and it's worked amazing for him. THANK YOU 🥰
42 Mushroom mentions I believe.
