Bacteria brewers NOTE. For the brew I made in THIS video, I used raw sugar because some people have said that it can also be used. (Which I also said in this video), but now my brew has turned to alchohol. It started smelling like vinegar, and a week or so later, started smelling like a bottle of boot leg whiskey. SO...after that I spoke to Ben and he said, "yeah...don´t use brown sugar. The yeasts like it more than the bacteria". It is confusing isn´t it? Also another viewer has noted that most town water these days has not only chlorine, but also chloramine, which DOES NOT disapate after 24 hrs. So I still suggest BLACKSTRAP UNSULPHURED MOLASSES AND CLEAN RAIN; CREEK OR LAKE WATER. COOL AND DARK WITH AN AIRLOCK once your brew is mixed with molasses.

What about if we use directly fruit instead of molasses? Could that work?

@@findingsolutions198 no I have not. I use very little so it would not be viable but sure...it’s doable I guess if you had the sugar cane and a big fire.
Hey, great videos! When you strain the organic matter from whichever, banana, comfrey, chicken sh1t, bucket you use...can you throw that organic matter on the garden or do you throw it away? Thanks!

Most cities and town now use chloramine which is chlorine + ammonia leaving that water overnight won't do much and defiantly won't remove the ammonia. But you can Vitamin C either tablets/powder or few drops from lemon that will instantly neutralize the choramine(chlorine + ammonia)

Bury the buckets with their rims above the soil and they will be cooler. Use a couple pallets as a roof, the moving air is cooler than sealed buckets.

I just put rice water and pasta water over my vegetable beds(diluted with rain water) I also put bananas skins and tea bags into rain water and steeped for days, used that as fertilizer also. I got great results! 😁

I love you. My plants eat what I do and they sure LOVE soy milk, yogurt, leftover smoothies. You can dump it all in a bucket, stir each day and use within 3 days, diluted. TEA, I feed everything tea. Add some rice water rinse. So very many ways to feed your plants. Keep track of what works and what doesn't. I use at least 50 lbs DE in a season. Lay it down like a carpet, bugs hate it.

And the same goes for our bodies.

Yes I was thinking maybe it was a lack of air that turned it anaerobic and the heat. I have quite a few lactose ferment that I have kept in the dark they do not smell bad but when exposed to light a white film has grown on top of it I shall now observe it. When I added a little fermented nettle plant juice to my lactose ferment, and added rain water to water my plants I noticed the difference. Thanks for all the great information

Hi Weedy thank you for this. This really beats any fertiliser from the store hands down. I've got a big bucket of mother brew which has kept well for 4 months out of the fridge made from dark brown sugar. Smells really good! Half way into making N P K buckets from your fertiliser video. Your videos are works of art that should be played and discussed in all schools! Love from Queensland 🙏❤️
They can. And they do. Lots of teachers and parents are watching with kids. Some kids have even introduced Weedy to their parents and grandparents. It’s nice.

Suggest maybe recess your containers into the ground, should keep the temperature more stable.
Too much work to have to bury and undig the buckets that is not necessary when you can just put them in the shade.
Oh my goodness! It worked! I’m adding nanners to mine to feed my sweet potatoes! I’m so excited. Things don’t usually work the first time, but this one did, for me. Woohoo!
What a pleasure to watch; you do such incredible productions. Of the gardening mistakes I made this year, I am aware of 25 of them. Thank you so much for this one. I started 7 days ago and ready to add milk to my mixture. As I have a large document that contains all of my gardening information, I added your soil mixture to it...and wanted to share it, should it benefit you or other gardeners. I hope I understood your instructions correctly. Soil Bacteria (The Weedy Garden) - Making soil bacteria can take from 9-21 days.
Start with ½ gallon (2 liters) of clean water (remove the chlorine and ammonia). Possibly consider using rain water?
Add Rice - Mix 2.1 cups (1/2 kilo) of white starchy rice into the water and let it sit for a while (overnight). What you have primarily in the water is lactobacillus bacteria….a good thing
o Strain out the rice; you are left with milky looking water. Cover the top of the container with a cloth covering and place a rubber band around it the edges.
o Let it Stew - Place the container in a dark area for about 3-7 days (when the mixture smells sweet, its ready).
Add Milk - In order to separate any bad bacteria contained in the mixture, add a little over 4.2 cups (1 liter) of organic cow milk (full cream, and or pasteurized and homogenized cow milk).
o Let it Stew - Place the mixture back in the dark for 3-7 days.
Remove the Kurds - At this point, remove the curds at the top and using the cloth.
Add Molasses - Take 1 cup (250 ml) of whey, together with 1 cup (250 ml) of molasses, and add it to 2.6 gallons (10 liters) of clean water (rain water if possible). Note, use molasses without Sulphur, or brown or raw sugar.
o Let it Stew - Stir the mixture up and let it sit for 7 days.
Create the Mother Brew - Take 4.2 cups (1 liter) of the mixture and place it in the fridge.
Preparing the Soil Bacteria for Garden Use. Take 3.4 ounces (100 ml) of the soil bacteria and add it to 2.6 gallons (10 liters) of clean water.
o For a standard 25-gallon drum (94.6 liters), take 33 ounces of the soil bacteria and add it to 25 gallons of clean water.
o Storage - To avoid high temperatures which can kill the bacteria, place the drum in a shady / cool area.
Conversions
100 milliliters = 3.4 ounces (less than 1/2 cup)
½ cup = 4 ounces
250 milliliters = 1 cup
½ kilogram = 2.1 cups
1 liter = 4.2 cups
40 ounces = 5 cups
10 liters = 2.6 gallons
100 liters = 26.4 gallons

I've done well tossing everything from weeds to manure into a bucket, letting it continuously steep in rainwater. Just strain off, dilute, and apply straight to plants. Then just throw more weeds in and top off with water. When the bucket accumulates an excess of solids, just fork it out and apply as mulch. It stinks and it works beautifully!
Great. I had some cow manure in a bucket of water which was great the first time. Second time it smelt rank but I used it anyway and lost everything I watered. It’s a fine line I think, and as soon as I have enough good compost, I think I’ll just stick to water and sunlight.
@@TheWeedyGarden It may not be a problem where you are, but here in the states hay and manure are killing gardens all over. Aminopyralids are sprayed on hay crops to kill broadleaf plants. It can pass through an animal's digestive tract and stay active for years in the soil. I would at least not rule it out until you check with your neighbors to see if they know how the hay/feed they supply their cattle is treated.

I learned to grow and build some of the healthiest soil in the world through clackamas coots, originally a cannabis connoisseur but his passion for the herb and organics lead him to be one of the leading experts on no-till/no-dig gardening, KNF(korean natural farming) and "living soil" I never knew tomatoes could be as sweet as a plum until i got into this way. I would look into SST(seed sprout teas). They are game-changers, out of all applications you could do in organic gardening, not many come close to live enzyme teas. Great video as always

Hi Weedy, I made 5 gallons of LABS after watching your first soil bacteria video. That was about a year and half ago. I keep it out of the sun. It smells the same as it did when I first made it, which is a bit like the molasses I used; however, I think it’s developed a SCOBY. There’s a thin, gelatinous layer coving the liquid.
Is that a bad thing? What did you do to remedy that, if so?
I watched a few videos on how to make LAB...why most of them are not giving all the details like you did? I tried to make LAB twice without successs even though I followed all the steps mentioned in the other videos ...NOW I know why it didn't work! Thank you so much! I learn a lot from you (and your faults)!

I have been doing the banana water for about a year, it really works great, the longer it ferments the better. So don’t throw away your brown bananas.

@@joycelynaustin768 I take the ripe banana peels that have been sitting in my mason jar for over a weeks, shake up the jar then fill my watering can with the banana water and water then pour over my plants. You can take out the peels and compost them and just use the banana water, I just use everything and add that to my watering can.

As requested! Aquarist here: Technically, there are multiple forms of chlorination used to sterilize water supplies. In urban areas, cehloramines have become more popular as the compound lasts much longer than the older version of chlorine gas. Chloramine is a combination of nitrous and chlorine chemistry. It doesn't dissipate just by sitting open for 24 hours. You may be amazed to learn that photographer's hypo solution can be used to neutralize it for the safety of fish, snails, amphibians, and the very important nitrofying microbes that function in aquatic filtration systems. Back on topic, I have been thinking about where to get rice bran for bokoshi, and finally just realized I might be able to use the rice hulls (different part of the seed!) that I like to use for litter for my chickens. Great stuff, full of silica that helps it last a long time in composts as a drainage and aeration element for my heavy clay soil. Also on topic, when I find wood-only lump barbecue charcoal (no embedded lighter fluid!) it can be crushed and added to my compost.

You can also use ascorbic acid (Vit C) to neutralise chloramine molecule if that helps any. It can also be bought in bulk at a huge discount for those that want to treat large volumes of water. Might be a lot easier for most folks to obtain. 👍

I am busy with experiments on 2 beds planted with exact same veg in same conditions however fed differently 1 using bacteria teas and the other inoculated with fungi, Mycelium.

Great video! I like to mix my LAB 1:1 with brown sugar but I don't add water. This is so my LAB can store longer in "osmotic pressure" in smaller containers until I need it. Then I put a tiny bit in my watering can and then add water :) thanks for your amazing photography skills and narrative. One of a kind!

There are different shades of brown sugar, depending on how much molasses it still contains (or is added back). If you can't get the right molasses, you could try dark brown sugar as it has the highest molasses content. Molasses would be best as it contains a lot of minerals.
