the funny thing is that whenever I read that name I can't help but think/say it in my head phonetically, but I still know what it's meant to sound like.
@Andrew Brockman it's an Irish name and it's pronounced Shivawn using English phonetics. English isn't the only language in the world you know and the Irish language isn't "weird" because it has a different phonetic system. Literally every language does

I really took this all too well. When I move to my new school sophomore year a friend group took me in. I was a little shy at first but then I sort of got more comfortable around them. Little did I know the first month at that school, rumors are spread that my name was Steve when my name is actually Richard. Then my really really good friends were calling me Steve for the longest time. When I got comfortable a month later I finally told them that my name was actually Richard and they acted so shocked and bewildered while I was laughing my ass off. I was at the awkward state where I didn't feel comfortable correcting them on it but I also found it somewhat humorous.
