There's gotta be a better way. There is no moving the badge around once it touches the tank. I would think some liquid prior to applying might give you some slide time to adjust. As long as the liquid is not the same stuff as the 3M adhesive.
I definitely looked into different options, nothing that wouldn’t interfere with the adhesive.

I bought them from my Harley dealer. Retro badges, I had to look through the catalog.
