Thanks for uploading these. After my parents divorced, my father took me here, and it was the first time I felt happy in the longest time. I'll never forget it.
The jingle 4min into the video for the 1983 commercial will forever be stuck in my head. I was part of the marching band that was from Spring Branch High. Good times!
I remember going to Astroworld as a kid in the 80s and 90s. I stopped going in the late 90s, and looking back I regret it. I had no idea at the time the park would be gone for good by 2005. There will probably never be an amusement park in the Houston city limits again, new parks will almost certainly be built in some outlying nearby area or smaller city of Houston, ie Katy, New Caney, Sugar Land.
My mom loved going there and her two favorite rides were Texas Cyclone and Greezed Lightning and for her BD next month I got her a Brochure of AstroWorld from 1979 off of EBay I know that she's going to love it.
Oh I'd love to hear about your Astroworld job and any stories you have!! It makes me sad, too, but happy as well to remember stuff with people who also loved it.
I swear I remember the part of the first commercial with the dolphins and the Bamboo Chute. It's crazy how things are stored in your mind like that. John Schneider played Astroworld? 9:14 He sure did. 11:16
This was great! Thanks for the upload. I went there the first year it opened in the late 60’s. That was when nobody thought twice about being dropped off with your friends and being picked up at 10;00 PM by your parents. I could never sleep the night before just anticipating the fun and excitement the next day was going to bring. The rides were a bit tamer than rides these days. I’m amazed how the ride names of the 60’s still come back to me after all these years. Black Dragon Alpine Sleigh Ride Orbiter Maypole Wagonwheel Barrel O Fun Wacky Shack Serpent Bamboo Chute Taxis Astroway Astrowheel Astroneedle Astrotrain? And those 10 cent loaves of Rainbow bread. Other newer rides came in the years later. Those were good ole’ days!
yes that is the Truth. And Stockholder got him out of Office... Hey if you have FB there is AstroWorld FB Page go Check them out at Astroworld-The Middle of Fun and i hope you will share this this letter you just wrote on FB...
Man these were the greatest years of my life I remember we would go back and forth from one park to another Astroworld to Waterworld...the season pass was $30...nowadays a plate of food at these other parks are $30 smdh
As a fellow Houstonian having spent pretty much my entire Adult life in Houston(first came here in 1993 as a 10 year old), I know the FULL Story of Astroworld and why it abruptly closed down and got demolished in October 2005. Astroworld itself was NEVER actually in any real trouble. It made up at least 30% Revenue for The City of Houston and the County of Harris alone. What happened is that Premier themselves and Kieran Burke were absentminded and EXTREMELY Greedy Real Estate Brokers and Investors. When they brought Astroworld from Time Warner, they were planning on Outsourcing its Attractions and rides from the get go. Burke also had lobbyist Pork and Capital with local Crony Neo Con Republicans. Houston's Zoning and Real Estate has been entirely Republican run for over 35 years though our Mayor and City Legislation is Democrat, Burke's Cronies were the ones who pulled the plug on Astroworld. They stood to all personally profit $2 million a piece from destroying it and selling it off. The Plan to do so was already in the pipeline as Early as 1999. Originally, The Cronies wanted it closed in 2001, but Shareholders told Burke that there would be NO kickback on doing so and that he could face Real Estate Fraud Charges if he rushed it. All that happened in '01 is that Burke was able to bide time. I last went to AstroWorld in August 2004, It was still in decent shape and the Texas Cyclone itself still functioned, but obviously was getting old and needed some elbow grease. Attendance was still fairly solid and Morale was still very modest. I did get an uneasy feeling about Premier at the time, I could feel and tell something was amiss, because some of the attractions obviously had budget cuts(very asinine and pointless ones). Regarding Astroworld's Shutting down and Demolishing Post Katrina, The City was IRATE. People TURNED against Burke. In fact, he was RUN out of the City and DISGRACED. Astroworld closing down resulted in a $75 Million Operating Loss from Premier, with Houston suffering the brunt of a Revenue Collapse.

I really really miss Astroworld. Lol My friends and I would get those Coke cans with their logo and coupon on them because it was buy one ticket, the other person gets in free. We'd also cut coupons off of cereal boxes. 😂😂 This is crazy bruh! Seems like a lifetime ago. 😔❤️😁💔💭
These commercials are cool, especially the Enchanted Kingdom one! I wonder if there are any other commercials with Marvel Mcfey and his enchanted animals?
I miss the astroworld of my childhood.. let's be honest toward the end it was a big ghetto carnival.... and now there's a bunch of people that don't even know it was a theme park.
We took our kids a few months ago to Houston for a mini trip - and I was talking about when I was a teenager I would go to Astroworld from Dallas & my oldest said .. Astroworld was really a thing ? I thought Travis Scott just made it up . 😅 I still go to Six Flags over Texas but I liked that our season passes got us in to all the parks around the United States owned by Six Flags!
uncleball78 well astro world first opened in 1968 and stayed until the mid 2000s, so yeah it would make sense that there weren't just white people. I mean, it's HOUSTON after all lol. Maybe you had your eyes closed when you walked outside back in the day.
