Thanks for the footage...I should also do a montage of the photos I took on that last day. The Cyclone was my first coaster in 6th grade...my mother dragged me on it kicking and screaming...and I have been a coaster fanatic ever since! I'm so glad I was able to go on that last day. Only heard about it a few days before and drove up from Austin.
the texas cyclone was a badass ride! I miss astroworld, when i pass by where it used to be it brings me alot of memories, is just a big lonely grassy field.
When your a kid, Astroworld and Waterworld feel so HUGE! But now when I pass the feild where it use to be it looks so small. I still find it hard to beleive ALL of that fit in that feild. I cry when I pass by it :,(
Six Flags Over Texas is where I grew up going and now I work there, I love love love it, I can't imagine how I'd feel if it got closed down. I never got a chance to visit Astroworld, just crummy ole' Fiesta Texas
I went there once, and my dad promised to take me there again. the next week it closed. i miss it and can remember all those amazing memories i had with my family. I MISS YOU ASTROWORLD!
brings back childhood memories. i'm older now and moved to california, but i spent countless days every summer at astroworld. how sad that it's now gone. what the hell are kids going to do now for fun?
This was a very memory filled video, thanks for sharing. I did notive there were parts of the video that were not from the last day but it was nice that you added them, to complete the Astroworld memories!!
I remember going here throughout my childhood years but when you go to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, you quickly realize that nothing else compares to Cedar Point and everything else sucks.
It was such a tragedy when they shut down AstroWorld 8 years ago. I had so many good times there throughout my childhood and worked there for 1 season in 2003. They need to build another amusement park here in Houston!
Thank you for posting your video of astroworld, I love the song you picked for the first portion of the video. It fits the mood I get watching this, then wayward son, perfect. I had a season pass every year late 80s thru mid 90s. Id go every weekend I could. So many memories were made and fears were conquered here for me. I hate that this place is gone. But the memories are eternaly etched in my heart and soul. (does heaven allow theme parks?id love to experience astroworld again)
One day when I am rich I will buy the land where six flag astroworld sat and then rebuild the theme park cause I only went once as a child and love it and wanted to return but can't so I will.rebuild this park when I filthy rich and remake every ride lost
both six flags parks ive been near by are closed now sadly. grew up goin to the one in new orleans and while evacuating for hurricane Katrina we stayed in houston. I asked my parents to go but we didnt have enough money. the park closed a month later. I wish I could have gone to this park. my dad did back in the 70s or 80s though
I don't know about anybody else but this seriously made me shed a tear, me and the family use to go every Sunday and we live in Galveston Tx. oh how i wish they can consider opening another six flags..
What was the reason for closing it down?? I remember going out there all the time it is sad its not there anymore.I remember seeing on tv that they were auctioning off all the rides,etc..
IM HERE IN CALIFORNIA AND A BIG VOUCHER FOR MY MAGIC MOUNTAIN, AND WOULDNT KNOW WHAT ID DO IF SIX FLAGS SHUT IT DOWN, THOUGH THEY ALMOST DID, BUT HOUSTONIANS, DONT LOOSE HEART!!! I JUST HOPE AND PRAY THAT U GET ASTROWORLD BACK!!! IM BEHIND YA 100%😉
It was a major scam the owners were taking a lot of the money and now they don't have funding it has been pushed back mutilple years now and all they have to show for it is a rob parking lot I wouldn't get your hopes up
I remember Astroworld. We use to go there every year when I was a kid. We have a Six Flags Fiesta Texas here in San Antonio but it's not the same. What a SHAME!!!!
ya thats the problem with Houston now, with the exception of the movie theaters and the malls, u gotta be over 18 or 21 to have any wort of legal fun in this town...
I loved this place. My grandpa built it and my mom and dad took me every weekend. It's terrible to drive by and see it as a piece of grass and dirt that's used as rodeo parking. I still remember where everything was..and all the memories that went with them.
walking over the bridge towards the entrance i knew it was gonna be an awesome day.i miss this place. they say insurance was to high and shut it down just like everything in houston. the astrodome seems next.
Thanks you so much for this footage. Even though I'm not a Houstonian I have fond memories of traveling to Houston every summer to visit family, looking forward to visiting Astroworld.Whats wrong with the City Of Houston could've they done anything to save it? The Astrodome was saved, they could'nt save Astroworld? Everybody in Houston is worried about they're bling and making that money, than to save a park that represented one important thing......family.
Aw man, I wish I had a better memory of this place... I grew up in San Antonio so I mostly went to Fiesta Texas... But I remember we went to Astroworld right before it closed. I was only 7 or 8 so all I really remember is a long walk across a bridge to get there... Really wish it hadn't closed, I'm a huge amusement park enthusiast now that I'm older. My parents went when they were younger on trips from Corpus Christi.
I've rebuilt AstroWorld in Roller Coaster Tycoon 1(With all loppy lanscapes) and 3(With all loppy lanscapes) like the original,in my vacations 2005 i spend 2 dayz there....very butyful time was there:) Now ~2years ago:'(
I am sorry for Houston's loss of such a great landmark. Leave it to Six Flags to F@#K up a good thing. On those hot Houston days, the best rides for me were the Alpine Sleigh Ride, and the Bamboo Shoot. I loved it all though! Let's not forget Southern Star either, where i saw some great rock concerts! Washington State has a dinky little park here called Wild Waves. It just pales by comparison to Astroworld. That was such a great amusement park! Best Wishes Houston, Wayne Rice
wasn't the one that starts at 4:42 originally white, not blue and green? and... are ALL the pics and footage from the last day? thanks for posting, brought back some great memories.
everything was dismantled and some of the rides were transferred to other parks around the united states. you can go to google and look at it on google maps just type in six flags astroworld houston, tx.
You're telling me they didn't make a profit every Summer? Closest theme park is in San Antonio. So sad. There is a new theme park opening up in Spring I believe but it's not going to be a typical theme park if I remember correctly.
xlr8! i loved that ride :( and the swat! but my favorite was batman :( im so sad i live in houston and i have to drive all the way from here to san antonio to get good rides :*(
Really miss this place. So many memories there.. Like the only time i got to hang out with my grandpa outside of the hospital, Or my 13th birthday on friday the 13th where people wear literally running out the park cause of a funnel cloud over the Texas Cyclone, even the small things.. Like getting a delicious funnel cake or turkey leg. I was there to the last hour it was open :(
I bet there were ALOT of people who were there at that final hour of AstroWorld's life were literally crying their eyes out, KNOWING that THAT would be the last time it would be open, and it would close it's doors forever. I can just imagine that NO ONE, AND I DO MEAN, NNNNNOOO ONE, wanted to leave!!!!😢😩😖😭😭
@XxXHoustonBabyXxX Me neither... but I rode the Texas Cyclone a million times. I never rode Greezed Lightnin' but that was my mom's favorite. My favorite was the XLR8.
This was a place you could go with your family, a place to have a wonderful date, a place to celebrate a birthday... Why did they take this away from us?
Pink flower 2112 cool a RUSH fan!!! Just to let yall know if you havet been to six flags over texas its like astroworld it has the same type of atmosphiere but bigger rides it really cool!!!
I say re-open and Dont let any gang basters in that rewind everything ofor everyone else, I was only 11 years old when they tared it down, now im 22 and really feel that was uncalled for. Six Flags Astroworld was and it is in my opinion the best thing that Houston had. Waking up every Sunday at 5:00Am to go and have the time of your life Wow. And i live in Galveston Island
Im sooo happy people are thinking about building a 500 acre amusement park in Sugarland! Btw Astroworld was only like 150 acres so this park will be HUGE!
The parcel of land it was on grew to be to valuable. Plus the park was aging badly and getting to be rather unsafe with the gangs at the time...so they tore it down. Last I heard...its STILL an empty lot...
The park wasn't making any money and it was sold for less then what is was worth and due to high concession stand prices for food when it was a bunch of cheap fast food places around the Astrodome/Reliant Park area, also people bought more day passes then season passes which made the sales for the park plummet. that empty lot what used to be astroworld is valuable due to the fact that it is located across the freeway from the Reliant Park . I had a season pass and went to this park every other weekend back in 2004-2005.
that is so sad! it was my hometown park. i rode my first ride there i luved it there. i used 2 ride the tobogan! we went there and the last time i went was when i was 4.

Spent many a day at Astroworld in the late 1970s. My friend's mom would drop us off on her way to work and we would spend all day there.
This video makes me cry for real. I love six flags, and astroworld has a special place in my heart.
Thanks so much for the video, especially the first-person views of the rides. They are exactly as I remembered. What fun times.

Six Flags Over Texas is where I grew up going and now I work there, I love love love it, I can't imagine how I'd feel if it got closed down. I never got a chance to visit Astroworld, just crummy ole' Fiesta Texas
Enough with the tears its time to rebuild.

Well made video. I can tell you loved the park as much as myself and others. Perfect music.

Ultra Twister looked super fun i wish i could have ridden that
@@lucasinthehouse007 man lucky you... Now I have to go to Japan if I wanna ride one
every damn time I watch this video I can't help but get a bit teary-eyed
I know they still have batman the escape at Darien and heard they might have plans of taking it out of storage and rebuilding it..
i like that people put 80's music on the astroworld videos because that's what they would play back then in the park
I spent all of my childhood summers here.. we used to buy season passes. I'm so sad I can't take my son here now :( I miss this place so much
I don't know about anybody else but this seriously made me shed a tear, me and the family use to go every Sunday and we live in Galveston Tx.
oh how i wish they can consider opening another six flags..
This video brought me chills.
@dangal94 Im with you. I live near Dallas now and went to Six Flags Arlington last year, but didnt quite have the same feeling of Astroworld. Miss it.
i remember going to astroworld as a little kid and i can remember it... if only i could go back one more day and ride the rides :(

Dust Bernadette I heard that a new amusement park called GRAND TEXAS is getting built, do you know anything on it's progress?
It was a major scam the owners were taking a lot of the money and now they don't have funding it has been pushed back mutilple years now and all they have to show for it is a rob parking lot I wouldn't get your hopes up
It was very sad to see Astroworld go to the graveyard😭
From the so many times I'd gone, if it was re-build I could still tell you where everything is. RIP to my childhood.
@monsterjamfan123 That would be the great "Greezed Lightnin"" which can be currently found at Joyland Amusement Park in Lubbock...
