I like how these form a story through the ads; Segata starts off as a SEGA henchman beating people into buying SEGA Saturns, gets a job as a mall Santa, trains up his knowledge of martial arts, breaks into a house to "rescue" the trapped victims, almost gets killed by the zombies of people he killed, escapes and raises an army to fight the zombies, and once victorious embarks on a career in professional sports before meeting the love of his life and getting a videogame of his exploits made and, completing the cycle, sacrifices himself to save SEGA in a massive fucking explosion. Why doesn't this man have a movie?
No single movie could contain Segata Sanshiro's awesomeness. It'd have to be a TV series, or a trilogy of movies!

If Sega had made Segata Sanshiro commercials in the West, Sega would still be making consoles today.
I could see those commercials coming over here, but they'd have to change them. The Segata theme would be gone and they'd play it up like a badly dubbed kung fu movie and throw a filter over it.
Also, most of those games did not come out in the US. I think, like Sonic R and Bomberman and maybe Sakura Wars did.
Honestly, I would've liked to see Burning Rangers, Deep Fear, and Wachenroder make it over.
They'd also need to commission commercials for Virtua Fighter 2, Daytona USA, Clockwork Knight, NiGHTs, and a few sports games.
Or, just reuse footage from the commercials for games that didn't come out here...

Fun fact: Segata Sanshiro is based on the character Sugata Sanshiro, a judoka from an Akira Kurosawa movie that was based on a book. The author of that book based it on real judoka Saigo Shiro, the first guy in judo to ever be awarded a black belt.

gaurdianAQ Yeeah, but at that time, Sega Dreamcast was coming out, and Segata for all we know was Saturn Exclusive...So, my hypothesis is that regardless if the console is made by Sega, if you are not playing a Saturn, you are screwed...That and he would be far away from Sega HQ so there is a possibility that no one told him about the Dreamcast.

@@NotaPizzaGRL true. I feel like he's also the reason Sega fell. Outside of refusing to bring over the Saturn's good games because he thought 2D was on the way out (which, to give him credit, was sorta true at the time) and RPGs were "too nerdy" to be popular (he said this just a few months before the release of Final Fantasy VII in NA) he did 2 other things that were dumb:
1. He cancelled Streets of Rage 4 for the Dreamcast because he had never heard of Streets of Rage before. (I am not joking)
2. You know how EA never published anything on the Dreamcast? They had plans to publish a lot of games on the system, but Stolar told them to fuck off since Sega had just purchased some sports developer whose name escapes me. Basically he thought that they didn't need EA to make the Dreamcast popular.
Good thing Sega ousted him just before the Dreamcast dropped in NA. Who knows what would have happened if he would still be in charge during the Dreamcast's short run. I don't think we would have gotten Skies of Arcadia, Grandia II, or Bangai-O.
All other ads try to nicely convince the customer to buy their products.

Segata Sanshiro has played Half-Life 3, Half-Life 4 and Half-Life 5, on the Sega Saturn.
Segata has played the English port of Mother 3 on Sega Saturn. Segata has played Sonic3CD & Knuckles & Knuckles 2 on Sega Saturn. Segata has played every game and concept on the Sega Saturn in HD and VR separately and at the same to completion more times than Sega has be mentioned in history. He has traveled space and time collecting and playing every game ever playable for Sega Saturn and beating them. He has even played Sonic R 2 for Sega Saturn and what would've been Sonic X-treme if it was completed and on Sega Saturn. Today he lives on the planet Saturn, playing Sega Saturn, with his miniature versions of himself, to the sound of his theme song.
Segata has beaten every single Souls game three times over with no deaths and nothing but his judo throw. His willpower is so strong that Ornstein and Smough surrendered to him immediately, and Nito is now his personal servant. and he accomplished all of this on his giant Saturn.
Although probably unlikely, they really should have him in Smash. Hearing him tell Mario "Sega Saturn shiro!" would be hilarious.

Not in vain. The Dreamcast and Saturn (and basically all of Sega's consoles) legacy's is still alive. Even if these consoles didn't succed in their times, today all the community of gamer praise them for bringing in excellent games in video game history.

***** A couple different things. First there were 1M and 4M RAM expansion carts that allowed for extra frames of animation in certain games (mostly fighters). Second there were memory cartridges. Lastly there were carts that combined both of these functions AND allowed your system to play games from all regions.

He also played in a tv show called Kamen Rider & Kamen Rider V3 which was a sentai series. like power rangers just more physical combat and very great motorcycle action scenes. if you ever watched the Gyver Movies then that would be close to what those shows were like...dark, lots of action and awesome stunt work.
