I would never imagine that I was anything like Judas, my ego would not allow it. And before we meet Judas in Chosen, we cannot imagine the HE was like US. Oh, heavens, no! He could not possibly be normal, humble, helpful, eager to learn, he MUST be hoplessly, obiousl, mired in satanism. He would be EASILY recognized and avoided at all cost. NOTHING like wonderful ME. And then I slowly become aware that I betray Jesus every time I do NOT do His will on any given day. Judas only did it once, I do it every time I pursue my own way instead of behaving like the perfect Christian I picture I am. We cannot truthfully look at Judas without seeing ourselves. God Help Us ~
There is a big difference between sinning and betraying the son of man..Jesus himself sets up the betrayal as a special occurrence in history with a designated punishment Further, Judas sinned like we do every day as well…he wasn’t perfect except for the betrayal…which again sets up the dichotomy between sinning and selling out the savior. I never ever think that I am a perfect Christian..or a good person, no real Christian thinks that about themself, having said that, I am no Judas, and neither are you! For me the most heartbreaking thing about Judas is that if he could have only held on for a few days he would have not only seen everything that he felt ashamed of undone, he would have seen it all turned into the greatest thing that ever happened. And Jesus would have gladly forgiven him, as he forgave Peter. I remind myself of this when I feel crushing despair--to just hang on for a little while more and see what God does with the seemingly insoluble.
Judas did what he had to do to bring Jesus to the cross he was destined to by divine plan. Judas didn’t need forgiveness from Christ, he was doing his part to see the plan to its conclusion.

Jesus is the Judge who decides who goes to hell (depart from Me!) or who goes to heaven. Jesus judged and cursed Judas, damned him to hell. Matthew 26:24 “The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.” So you see, Jesus the judge already judged Judas. And many, many, many Christians walk with Jesus and even serve Him in doing ministry, just like Judah. BUT, on that day, they hear these dreadful words, "Depart from Me, you worker of INIQUITY. Judas walked with Jesus but because he stole from the money bag/ offerings, he was a worker of iniquity. He could not have repented because Jesus passed judgment already. There is no court of appeal after Jesus has spoken.
Yes. But Jesus told him that whatever he was going to do to do it quickly. So it was kinda Jesus who told him to do this 😅. Also Satan didn't enter Judas until after Jesus pointed out who was to betray him. So Jesus made it all happen anyway.

I appreciate the in-depth study of the followers of Jesus. I have always felt that Judas wanted to force Jesus to prove he was the Messiah. He had watched Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead and I thought he wanted to help force Jesus to show the Jewish leaders that he was Messiah. That makes him like me. How many times I have been praying for an answer and decided to "help things along". It never works out but my sinful heart keeps trying.
Judas was "Chosen" to play one of the most important parts of the "Passion Play", just as all the disciples were "chosen" - each to their part of the whole....
Love The Chosen & this review is so spot on. Follow this: Judas was *not* about 30 pieces of silver, Judas was POLITICALLY MOTIVATED. He wanted Jesus to use His power against Rome & thought if there's a Roman sword at his throat He will say "Enough" & smite the Romans forever. All the Disciples thought the Kingdom of God would come literally soon in their time. But after Jesus' death it took a mere 100 years for the Holy Roman Empire to be established. I’ve always believed that Judas wanted Yeshua to “show his stuff” in front of the Jewish leaders, and thereby convince them that he was messiah. Iscariot refers to “sicario”, one who is armed with a sicari (Roman dagger), and advocates violent opposition (like Simon the Zealot).
I have heard this theory before, that Judas easily could have thought he was doing Jesus a favor, by turning him into the authorities. He thought Jesus would then be forced to show his glory.

I think the main tool against stall words is preparation. Writng a script and reading it back prepares the mind to say the next word and the one after it, and eliminates stream-of-consciousness cues like _like_ and _um._

I always think about Judas with kindness because he was not like that for all his time with Jesus. We/I do not judge him harshly since I am also a sinner.
Oh that's nothing... Just wait till you get down to verse 14 of Psalm 22: "I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted within me. My mouth is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death." Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet. All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment." - (Psalm 22:14-18) Psalm 22 is one of the Messianic psalms; and it is a prophecy of the crucifixion. But that is not how the psalm ends: "All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him." and then... "...Future generations will be told about the Lord. They will proclaim his righteousness, declaring to a people yet unborn: He has done it!" Just as Jesus references the beginning of the psalm, I believe he also references the end when he says, "it is finished". When you take Psalm 22, in the totality of its meaning, it is not a psalm of despair or a hopeless cry for help - but is rather a declaration of victory - and of the Lord's salvation. Psalm 22 foreshadows something else - declaring that the people of "the nations" and "people yet unborn" will turn to the Lord... This is foreshadowing the God's salvation going out to the whole world - in fulfillment of the promise to Abraham, that "all nations will be blessed through you".

He forgot to quote Jesus saying Judas was a devil and that it would have been better if he were never born. It’s not possible to say he was forgiven as Brandon claims. If he was forgiven then he went to heaven. Surely going to heaven is worth being born.
@@davidmason9925 So tell your pastor to read the verses in luke where it says Jesus gave the 12 apostles the authority to cast out demons and trample on scorpions and serpents. It is written that they should not rejoice that they are able to cast them out but rather that their names were written in heaven (including Judas). Ask your pastor friend how that is possible seeing as though Judas is the one who was doomed to destruction.
@@legomeego8581 Actually, if you read Luke 10:20 carefully; Jesus is not addressing the “12” but the “70” and I would suggest that rather than declaring that all their names were written in Heaven, He is comparing ones name being written in Heaven as greater than demons being subject to them. (Jesus never taught universalism, but that ones name being written in Heaven was a gift received by believing in His Name. See John 1:9, and the many times He requires that we must believe on His Name.) I hope this is helpful.
I loved how the Vatican was trying to change how they portrayed Jesus years ago.Peter, I probably would be like, but he is revered by many but far from perfect. He not only followed Jesus, he was given privy to things like the Transfiguration and supposedly heard God and saw Elijah and Moses!! Like wow, that's something. He thought he was better too and although not a traitor, didn't stay up with Jesus, didn't chase after Judas when he left, Jesus called him "Satan" once as a rebuke. He not only denied him which I get, he hid behind locked doors and I don't think people were hunting him per se. He wept but didn't go to be with Mary and John. He is given no bad press so to speak (except in Mark I heard) but with all he had, it still makes you marvel at how human and frail they all were. I don't think Judas if he lived would have hid. I've also been touched that immensely terrible regret that Judas feels afyer the betrayal, makes him hang himself. 😔 heart wrenching. Yet Jesus loved him so. So much to come yet in The Chosen and curious how they will show everything. 🤔 we've been in the "honeymoon" phase and beginning of Jesus's ministry. Things are about to get tougher for them.

Judas clearly intended to betray Christ because He handed him the piece of bread and told him to do what he had already planned to do. The obvious implication in John's account is that Judas was putting on an act because he didn't want the others to know what he had done, but he didn't count on Christ exposing his intentions.
@@theeternalsbeliever1779 before Jesus indicated that it would be Judas Iscariot, all of the other apostles wondered if it would be them, and by implication, accidental. To the other apostles, an intentional betrayal by a fellow apostle was not even a possibility. That is why John is so angry at Judas Iscariot when writing decades later: he did the unthinkable.
Thank you for covering this topic. Since watching The Chosen, I've given a lot of thought to Judas. He was always portrayed as evil but without Judas' act, Jesus would not have gone to the cross to pay for our sins. Mary was asked to do something incredible to save the world. Judas played a part in our salvation too, whether he knew it at the time or not. You said it...grace. I'm interested to learn more.
Within the Dead Sea Scrolls was discovered the Book of Judas in which Judas was faithful and Jesus asked him to turn him in as it was a necessary step to fulfill his sacrifice. Judas refused at first but eventually consented. The story actually makes more sense this way. Why was it not canonized? Perhaps every story needs a villain.

Consider those who do the will of God: John 7:17; 1 John 2:17; Matthew 7:21; Acts 13:22; Ephesians 6:6; Hebrews 10:36; 1 Peter 4:2. Can anyone say that Judas did not do God's will?
Curious as to the “Judas was trustworthy” point. Yes he has control of the money, but we’re told in John 12:6 that he “said this, not because he was concerned about the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he had the money box, he used to pilfer what was put into it.” Was expecting that to be revealed after the initial observation you made. 🤷🏻
John 12:6 was written in hindsight. It’s likely that any pilfering Judas did was only discovered after he betrayed Jesus. It’s not unreasonable that he was considered trustworthy, right up until he wasn’t.
@@centexprepper3993 perhaps, but scripture reports the apostles being in a bit of turmoil following the crucifixion, and I can’t see them feeling that was the time to run an audit. My guess would be it was more likely John and maybe others were aware and said nothing in deference to Yeshua’s decision to let it happen, or when they brought it up to him, he told them not to worry about it.

I think when it was said, "it would have been better had he never been born" is more about Judas committing suicide instead of wondering whether Jesus would forgive him.
I enjoyed this video and the older I get, I think The Chosen's depiction of Judas is dead on. I think Judas was a normal person who wanted to be a good disciple but worries of the world, deceit, and riches chocked the Word in Judas' heart. I have that same failing all too often myself.
@@jbooks888 LOL I've read the entire Bible multiple times and in 4 translations. I stand by my comment that Judas followed the parable of the Sower and the Seed that Jesus told. Judas was among the 12 who went out and performed miracles. John just tells us where Judas ultimately put his heart over Jesus.

Interesting thing about Judas that I believe we should humbly take note of, Judas performed miracles as well and knew the power of God, yet he still betrayed Christ. We must stay close to the Lord regardless of how He uses us to minister to others.

Judas is the perfect example of the lukewarm believer with just enough faith and love to cast out demons and heal the sick but not enough to follow Jesus all of his days when you go to heaven it's like a marriage God knows who can go the whole distance he sees the future and like a bad marriage he knows who shall quit over time just like lucifer did.
GARP 1 second ago I read these comments and see people disparaging Judas AS THE Devil. Judas is an easy target. This is to assume Jesus did not know his chosen few? That he would choose an apostle that would betray him? Did not Jesus foretell his own destiny? Judas was chosen to complete the prophecy and the passion. Jesus was crucified for OUR sins. Where would Christianity be without the crucifixion? That Judas would betray Jesus on his own accord is absurd. I have read accounts where whole populations of people use Judas to bolster their antisemitism. Jesus was not a fool. Judas followed his masters wishes. I am of the opinion that Judas is a Saint. I urge all to ponder the part Judas played in the life of Jesus.
Read Peter chapter 2, especially pay attention to verse 8. Speaking to those that stumble in their walk ..” whereunto also they were appointed.” God uses us in our good And our Bad! Read His Word so You understand His Truth.
Judas really isn't so different than a lot of us. While we do not betray him to death, we certainly do not jump out and carry the gospel to the least of these, which is a form of betrayal. (Ouch) but it raises the question, IF Judas had not committed suicide, would Jesus have also tried him as he did Peter? I like to think so. [Note..."tried" was a typing error. It should say "restored".]
Peter grieved his error in repentance and submission to Christs will. Had Judas done the same, Yes, he would have been saved. This is how we are saved also...for we all betray Christ.
If Judas had not betrayed Him he wouldn’t have committed suicide. Judas loved Jesus, unlike the Pharisees. I think Jesus did ‘try’ him.. by allowing Judas to confess his sin and attempt to repent… and judge himself to death by suicide.
Also noteworthy in this case, is that Judas was practically possessed, taken over, by Satan himself when he betrayed him... not an ordinary evil spirit, no, but the evil one himself... John 13:2 and especially 13:27

I found the depiction of Judas in The Last Temptation of Christ to be the most illuminating and touching. He is shown to be Jesus' most devoted follower, and was merely fulfilling a promise that Jesus asked of him when he revealed Jesus to his persecutors. He was dutiful and suffered tremendous guilt when he realized his devotion to God was manipulated and subverted to serve a more evil purpose. In fact, without the aid of Judas, Christ's prophecy of dying for the cause might not have taken place, and in that way he sacrificed the most, after Christ. While I might have chosen a different actor to portray him, this depiction was the most emotional and relatable for me.
I was told that the moniker 'iscariot' was not really a last name at all but a descriptor roughly meaning "of the knives" a play on the hebrew word 'sicarii' which means "assassin". apparently judas like "simon the zealot" was an extremist and belonged to a group of terrorists called sicarii who assassinated roman occupiers, simon was a maccabee and john the baptist was a nazrite and essine. i think it fits his pattern because infiltration, subterfuge, conspiracy, descention & assassination special ops would be his training and mode of operation which he turned on his master
I believe your understanding is based on valid information. I get so disturbed at teachers who try to describe Judas as the most trusted of the twelve because “having the bag” implies that he was the treasurer and keeper of the funds as they traveled etc. Have they overlooked Jesus’ instructions to take no money or scrip and “not have a bag” and yet what is Judas’ defining characteristic? He had “the bag”.... and was described as having an obsession with money and opportunistic deals! He was a betrayer and Jesus knew it!! Also look at “Son of Perdition” and “went to his own place” the only explanation for this man is Jesus’ “prognosis” Greek for for-knowledge upon which pre-destination is based! Blessings on you! Brandon here I was looking at all these bizarre TH-cam videos. Then your video pops up! Changed my whole mood for the better! What you said about forgiveness! “Humble thyself in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up”
No one forgets Satan's part in it, but the fact of the matter is that his greed made it possible for Satan to use him. Even before Satan possessed him, Jesus had already called him a devil. That says a lot about the kind of person Judas was even before Satan actively used him.
Thank you Tina your comment made me suddenly think of something new to me! Jesus loved His enemies and friends alike but there is one distinction between them. Some of those He loved He named as His ‘enemies’. Whereas others are named as His ‘friends’, as was Judas. Which is indicating to me that not all people who sin against God are considered as ‘enemies’ of God! Many of us are prodigals that have not yet returned to our father’s house on our own but we are still accepted as family. I think Judas was a prodigal who ‘returned’ in his heart and still considered a Friend of God

Judas had free will and was evil from the beginning, he would have been in hell, If he had never met Jesus. In the scriptures he was stealing all the money, even before he betrayed Jesus. Actually Jesus gave him a way to be saved, because Jesus made judas evil deed a good deed, because like you said God knew he would betray him and it was necessary for salvation, so that is why I think he actually got saved , if he truly repented, which I think he has, because he gave the money back and hanged himself .Praise the Lord!
That is indeed an interesting angle to see. Regardless of his ultimate destiny- which some folks like to debate, Judas was still an apostle, handpicked by Jesus, and loved by Him. It is easy for many to think they will be, or are, "better" than Judas, perhaps because they think they will never betray Jesus, never fail, or never fall back. And for that, Jesus will perhaps rebuke us- asking us to repent as in Luke 13. If we think others are more sinful than us, then we are wrong. All have fall short. And to that, we ought not to spit or cast stones on Judas. Thanks for the perspective.

I believe the position Judas had at the “table” with Jesus was significant…as where you sat in relation to the Rabbi meant something…could you speak into that Brandon as I believe it is revealing and like this content helps break the stereotype we have of this man. I loved this video. Thank you. My struggle is that Jesus had to die so that he could conquer the grave. Judas' sin was he didn't seek forgiveness as Peter did when he denied knowing Christ 3 times before the rooster crowed. You did go where I needed which is Judas could have asked for forgiveness and be forgiven.
But then Judas grieved and was sorry so sorry that he tried to give the money back. One moment of sin led by Satan yet the heart of Christ won out in the end for Judas! Remember this because we all just like Peter and Judas come up short of The Glory of God. We have zero credibility over judging anyone. I take Jesus word Friend over any of the writers words about Judas. Jesus rules he is the judge. He knew judas was used for a moment of temptation. Which leads to the question of suicide. Can a person be in heaven…. The answer is right in Jesus last word to Judas. .

Judas wanted Jesus to use the power he knew Jesus had. He was trying to force Jesus’ hand. Make him use His power to destroy the oppressors. As is described in so many of the ancient scriptures that we now interpret as the end of day’s destruction Jesus will bring.

The Apostles in the first century didn’t have to study, nor take notes, because they had a direct revelation from God, through the Holy Spirit. Thus, they knew the Bible backwards and forwards. Knowing ALL the scriptures became effortless for them!
I never saw Judas as an evil villain. I’m not saved, but from what I see, if this is the Creator’s plan, then SOMEONE had to do it…could have been Peter, Mathew, John or even Mary Magdalene. He probably felt overwhelmed and guilty, but somehow, this may have needed to play out. I’m sure he was embraced.
I totally agree with you. Judas had his part to play, just like the other disciples/apostles. If Judas hadn't done what he did, the crucifixion would never have happened, the resurrection would never have happened and there would be no story. Jesus already knew how it was all going to go.

I fully believe that Jesus loved Judas, but that love does not relieve him (or any of us) of the consequences of our choices if we don't seek forgiveness from the only One who *can* lawfully forgive us. Two men betrayed Jesus; Peter and Judas. One repented toward God, the other did not and took his own life. Only God knows the heart, but our opinions are our opinions and the truth is the truth. Looking at what Jesus said, it is clear he knew something that none of us could.
@@TrueSight_333 If Judas was attempting to fulfill the Zechariah 11 prophecies, then he is more evil than most can imagine. He was a type of, if not "the", Antichrist, the idol shepherd, but attempting to be seen as the good shepherd. Jesus, in love, gave him opportunity to repent, but he did not. Read on about what the idol shepherd will do to the flock.
Great points! I've always thought that in the case of Judas, and of Pontius Pilate, it was necessary for them to do what was done, else there could be no crucifixion and therefore no sacrifice (on the part of Jesus) and therefore no salvation. Christianity would have died stillborn. In light of these facts, how can one vilify them and condem them? Their actions were necessary, and IMHO, Jesus would have known this. My $0.02! :)
One of the things I've wondered about Judas is whether his actions were necessary to the gospel. Clearly the Sandhedrin wanted to take custody of Jesus without causing a riot, but I wonder if they could have accomplished that without Judas assistance. Jesus resurrection was necessary to reveal his divinity so it seems that the Passion was part of the plan, were Judas actions part of that plan or were they in spite of it?
I believe Judas thought Jesus would call down angels to save him. The same thing the devil suggested.. it does say the devil entered him. I don't think he expected Jesus to die and that's why he felt sincerely guilty.
"While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled” (John 17:12). Damned.
Also, it would be better for the betrayer if he had not been born. We dramatically say such things in a state of grief, but Jesus, God the Son, Maker of Heaven and Earth, said this of the man whose purpose was to betray Him to fulfill the Scriptures.
Judas lived and ended his life in the errors of his "Own will" instead of the will of Christ. This is the difference in redemption of Peter, and the condemnation of Judas. We all betray Christ , the difference is we repent and change our ways to be in line with Gods will....not our own.

Here is my interpretation, and I heard this once years ago, but it has stuck with me. Judas had a role to play, and Jesus knew what that role was, and yet, He kept him in the fold. Jesus loved him as much as the other Apostles. He never abused him, called him names, even when He knew that Judas would betray Him. And when all was done, and Jesus descended into Hell, tore open the gates to bring with Him certain people to Heaven, Judas was among them.
You are ABSOLUTELY wrong ! Jesus said very clearly 'how TERRIBLE for the man who betrays the Son of Man ! It would have been better for him if he had never been born .' Also ,He said "I chose you twelve ,didn't I ? Yet one of you is a devil !" And elsewhere ,the apostles called Judas 'The Son of Perdition ' and that 'he left us, to go to his own place.' Nothing could be clearer of his doom .

the odd part of Judas story is that for someone who handled the money, he would have had plenty of opportunities to taken a side cut without anyone noticing and certainly would have made more than what he got for betraying Jesus.. I suspect there is something to this tale that has been lost to the pages of time or the vatican.
17:29 I was raised Roman Catholic from birth 65 years ago (no longer practicing per se) and we were taught that Judas DID take from the treasury.. adding to the belief that Judas was dishonest from the beginning and all about what he could get for himself. Does scripture back that up I’m wondering?

I really enjoyed these videos. I have been betrayed and there are people who would gladly see me crushed. This however is because of my love for Christ, not just reading about his works or thinking about him but truely loving him and seeing him as really the true friend I never had. Now I have comfort in him after looking for love from human beings which never meterialised. No love of human beings can ever surpass Christ`s love.........how can it :-) . Anyway, I do not hate those who hate me, I wish that they are saved. I don`t want revenge as I care for them. Some may find that odd but nevermind :-).

Warning - the word of God is not a TV series. Especially one that makes up most of the storylines, when you have the whole script right there. It's not even in the same order as scripture and I don't know why Dallas made that choice. It's a good series that will make you feel good. May even make you feel good about Jesus but don't mix it up with scripture. I hope it somehow leads people picking up their bible and testing it but possibly not. Don't go away thinking that's how it went. Read your bible. There is a very Catholic influence and they don't tend to be big in allowing the truth to be told. Yet i could say if there's something that didn't happen it's the whole episode. Matthew is clearly autistic and Jesus doesn't consider healing him? Mary Magdalene goes back to being possessed like she's fallen off the wagon and Jesus is uninterested and doesn't seem to know it has happened? A disciple visits John the Baptist and John asks what he's like? So why would he need to later send his disciples out to check if he is the messiah?

Thank you for the presentation! As I grew in my biblical knowledge, I started to feel sorry for him. He seems to have repented and been truly grieved by his sin. We can all relate. I can't say that as a sinner, any of us are better or worse than Judas, nor can I judge him. We all sin, no matter what our intentions are. Christ died and rose for us all. I truly hope that God forgave him, and we will see him in Heaven one day.

Interesting thoughts you have offered about Judas. At times I have wondered about Jesus' selection of Judas as a disciple. Perhaps Jesus knew far in advance that Judas would betray Him. One scripture that stands out in describing Judas' character is what John spoke of in John 12 verses 3-6. When Mary anointed Jesus' feet with costly spikenard ointment, Judas objected, saying that the perfume could have been sold and the money given to the poor. John said about Judas, "He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it." Somehow John caught wind of the fact that that while Judas kept the money box, he would help himself to the money for his own use. I think that as a thief, maybe it wasn't so hard for Judas to take the thirty pieces of silver and betray Jesus. For Judas to day after day and year after year be in the presence of the greatest man who ever lived, hear the eternal truths and words of life that came forth from His lips, witness with his own eyes the perfect example of how to live and who to be, and yet betray him for a few pieces of metal, that to me speaks loudly about the kind of person Judas was, whatever his earlier history may have been.
The motivation of Judas was to put Jesus in a position where He would be forced to use His power to overthrow the Romans just like all the other disciples and all Israelites thought the Messiah would do. The death of Jesus was so overwhelming that Christ's friend hung himself
So sad. Fr Groechel on EWTN said a saint talked of a man who committed suicide and she had a vision he asked for forgiveness before he died or soon after. He said it's wrong to say Judas didn't ask, we all see God at death, good or bad.
I would never imagine that I was anything like Judas, my ego would not allow it. And before we meet Judas in Chosen, we cannot imagine the HE was like US. Oh, heavens, no! He could not possibly be normal, humble, helpful, eager to learn, he MUST be hoplessly, obiousl, mired in satanism. He would be EASILY recognized and avoided at all cost. NOTHING like wonderful ME. And then I slowly become aware that I betray Jesus every time I do NOT do His will on any given day. There is a big difference between sinning and betraying the son of man..Jesus himself sets up the betrayal as a special occurrence in history with a designated punishment
Further, Judas sinned like we do every day as well…he wasn’t perfect except for the betrayal…which again sets up the dichotomy between sinning and selling out the savior.

For me the most heartbreaking thing about Judas is that if he could have only held on for a few days he would have not only seen everything that he felt ashamed of undone, he would have seen it all turned into the greatest thing that ever happened. And Jesus would have gladly forgiven him, as he forgave Peter. I remind myself of this when I feel crushing despair--to just hang on for a little while more and see what God does with the seemingly insoluble.
Judas did what he had to do to bring Jesus to the cross he was destined to by divine plan.
Judas didn’t need forgiveness from Christ, he was doing his part to see the plan to its conclusion.

Jesus is the Judge who decides who goes to hell (depart from Me!) or who goes to heaven. Jesus judged and cursed Judas, damned him to hell. Matthew 26:24

And many, many, many Christians walk with Jesus and even serve Him in doing ministry, just like Judah. BUT, on that day, they hear these dreadful words, "Depart from Me, you worker of INIQUITY. Judas walked with Jesus but because he stole from the money bag/ offerings, he was a worker of iniquity. He could not have repented because Jesus passed judgment already. There is no court of appeal after Jesus has spoken.

I appreciate the in-depth study of the followers of Jesus. I have always felt that Judas wanted to force Jesus to prove he was the Messiah.
He had watched Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead and I thought he wanted to help force Jesus to show the Jewish leaders that he was Messiah. That makes him like me. How many times I have been praying for an answer and decided to "help things along". It never works out but my sinful heart keeps trying.
Judas was "Chosen" to play one of the most important parts of the "Passion Play", just as all the disciples were "chosen" - each to their part of the whole....

Love The Chosen & this review is so spot on. Follow this: Judas was *not* about 30 pieces of silver, Judas was POLITICALLY MOTIVATED. He wanted Jesus to use His power against Rome & thought if there's a Roman sword at his throat He will say "Enough" & smite the Romans forever. All the Disciples thought the Kingdom of God would come literally soon in their time. But after Jesus' death it took a mere 100 years for the Holy Roman Empire to be established. It wasn't in the Disciples' life time line, but in the history of the world 100 years for that radical a change would seem like a second is to us. Blessings to all here.
I’ve always believed that Judas wanted Yeshua to “show his stuff” in front of the Jewish leaders, and thereby convince them that he was messiah.
Iscariot refers to “sicario”, one who is armed with a sicari (Roman dagger), and advocates violent opposition (like Simon the Zealot).
And how do we know exactly that Judas was politically motivated?…

I have heard this theory before, that Judas easily could have thought he was doing Jesus a favor, by turning him into the authorities. He thought Jesus would then be forced to show his glory.
Jesus knew Judas was part of God's plan of Salvation, that is why JESUS loved him as HE loves us.

I think the main tool against stall words is preparation.
Writng a script and reading it back prepares the mind to say the next word and the one after it, and eliminates stream-of-consciousness cues like _like_ and _um._

I always think about Judas with kindness because he was not like that for all his time with Jesus. We/I do not judge him harshly since I am also a sinner.
I never learned that Jesus was referencing psalm 22 when he was on the cross. Thank you for the knowledge.
Oh that's nothing... Just wait till you get down to verse 14 of Psalm 22:
"I am poured out like water,
and all my bones are out of joint.
My heart has turned to wax;
it has melted within me.
My mouth is dried up like a potsherd,
and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth;
you lay me in the dust of death."
Dogs surround me,
a pack of villains encircles me;
they pierce my hands and my feet.
All my bones are on display;
people stare and gloat over me.
They divide my clothes among them
and cast lots for my garment." - (Psalm 22:14-18)
Psalm 22 is one of the Messianic psalms; and it is a prophecy of the crucifixion. But that is not how the psalm ends:
"All the ends of the earth
will remember and turn to the Lord,
and all the families of the nations
will bow down before him."
and then...
"...Future generations will be told about the Lord.
They will proclaim his righteousness,
declaring to a people yet unborn:
He has done it!"
Just as Jesus references the beginning of the psalm, I believe he also references the end when he says, "it is finished". When you take Psalm 22, in the totality of its meaning, it is not a psalm of despair or a hopeless cry for help - but is rather a declaration of victory - and of the Lord's salvation. Psalm 22 foreshadows something else - declaring that the people of "the nations" and "people yet unborn" will turn to the Lord... This is foreshadowing the God's salvation going out to the whole world - in fulfillment of the promise to Abraham, that "all nations will be blessed through you".

It is written that they should not rejoice that they are able to cast them out but rather that their names were written in heaven (including Judas). Ask your pastor friend how that is possible seeing as though Judas is the one who was doomed to destruction.
@@legomeego8581 Actually, if you read Luke 10:20 carefully; Jesus is not addressing the “12” but the “70” and I would suggest that rather than declaring that all their names were written in Heaven, He is comparing ones name being written in Heaven as greater than demons being subject to them. (Jesus never taught universalism, but that ones name being written in Heaven was a gift received by believing in His Name. See John 1:9, and the many times He requires that we must believe on His Name.) I hope this is helpful.

I loved how the Vatican was trying to change how they portrayed Jesus years ago.Peter, I probably would be like, but he is revered by many but far from perfect. He not only followed Jesus, he was given privy to things like the Transfiguration and supposedly heard God and saw Elijah and Moses!! Like wow, that's something. He thought he was better too and although not a traitor, didn't stay up with Jesus, didn't chase after Judas when he left, Jesus called him "Satan" once as a rebuke. He not only denied him which I get, he hid behind locked doors and I don't think people were hunting him per se. He wept but didn't go to be with Mary and John. He is given no bad press so to speak (except in Mark I heard) but with all he had, it still makes you marvel at how human and frail they all were. I don't think Judas if he lived would have hid. I don't think he would have but who knows, didn't seem the type. I can't wait for The Chosen to be back and see their version. Thank you Brandon.

We are all like Judas more then we realize. God in his Grace knows this yet He still loves us.
When Jesus said he would be betrayed, all the disciples wondered if if it would be them. None of them thought the betrayal would be intentional.
Judas clearly intended to betray Christ because He handed him the piece of bread and told him to do what he had already planned to do. The obvious implication in John's account is that Judas was putting on an act because he didn't want the others to know what he had done, but he didn't count on Christ exposing his intentions.
@@theeternalsbeliever1779 before Jesus indicated that it would be Judas Iscariot, all of the other apostles wondered if it would be them, and by implication, accidental. To the other apostles, an intentional betrayal by a fellow apostle was not even a possibility. That is why John is so angry at Judas Iscariot when writing decades later: he did the unthinkable.

Thank you for covering this topic. Since watching The Chosen, I've given a lot of thought to Judas. He was always portrayed as evil but without Judas' act, Jesus would not have gone to the cross to pay for our sins. Mary was asked to do something incredible to save the world. Judas played a part in our salvation too, whether he knew it at the time or not. You said it...grace. I'm interested to learn more.
Judas was chosen because he is a devil. The scripture is very clear. God used him as a pawn because he is evil.

Within the Dead Sea Scrolls was discovered the Book of Judas in which Judas was faithful and Jesus asked him to turn him in as it was a necessary step to fulfill his sacrifice. Judas refused at first but eventually consented. The story actually makes more sense this way. Why was it not canonized? Perhaps every story needs a villain.

John 12:6 was written in hindsight. It’s likely that any pilfering Judas did was only discovered after he betrayed Jesus. It’s not unreasonable that he was considered trustworthy, right up until he wasn’t.

My guess would be it was more likely John and maybe others were aware and said nothing in deference to Yeshua’s decision to let it happen, or when they brought it up to him, he told them not to worry about it.

I enjoyed this video and the older I get, I think The Chosen's depiction of Judas is dead on. I think Judas was a normal person who wanted to be a good disciple but worries of the world, deceit, and riches chocked the Word in Judas' heart. I have that same failing all too often myself.

Interesting thing about Judas that I believe we should humbly take note of, Judas performed miracles as well and knew the power of God, yet he still betrayed Christ. We must stay close to the Lord regardless of how He uses us to minister to others.

I read these comments and see people disparaging Judas AS THE Devil. Judas is an easy target. This is to assume Jesus did not know his chosen few? That he would choose an apostle that would betray him? Did not Jesus foretell his own destiny?
Judas was chosen to complete the prophecy and the passion. Jesus was crucified for OUR sins. Where would Christianity be without the crucifixion? That Judas would betray Jesus on his own accord is absurd. I have read accounts where whole populations of people use Judas to bolster their antisemitism. Jesus was not a fool. Judas followed his masters wishes. I am of the opinion that Judas is a Saint. I urge all to ponder the part Judas played in the life of Jesus.

Judas really isn't so different than a lot of us. While we do not betray him to death, we certainly do not jump out and carry the gospel to the least of these, which is a form of betrayal. (Ouch) but it raises the question, IF Judas had not committed suicide, would Jesus have also tried him as he did Peter? I like to think so. [Note..."tried" was a typing error. If Judas had not betrayed Him he wouldn’t have committed suicide. Judas loved Jesus, unlike the Pharisees. I think Jesus did ‘try’ him.. by allowing Judas to confess his sin and attempt to repent… and judge himself to death by suicide.
Also noteworthy in this case, is that Judas was practically possessed, taken over, by Satan himself when he betrayed him... not an ordinary evil spirit, no, but the evil one himself... John 13:2 and especially 13:27

I found the depiction of Judas in The Last Temptation of Christ to be the most illuminating and touching. He is shown to be Jesus' most devoted follower, and was merely fulfilling a promise that Jesus asked of him when he revealed Jesus to his persecutors. He was dutiful and suffered tremendous guilt when he realized his devotion to God was manipulated and subverted to serve a more evil purpose. In fact, without the aid of Judas, Christ's prophecy of dying for the cause might not have taken place, and in that way he sacrificed the most, after Christ. While I might have chosen a different actor to portray him, this depiction was the most emotional and relatable for me.
I was told that the moniker 'iscariot' was not really a last name at all but a descriptor roughly meaning "of the knives" a play on the hebrew word 'sicarii' which means "assassin". apparently judas like "simon the zealot" was an extremist and belonged to a group of terrorists called sicarii who assassinated roman occupiers, simon was a maccabee and john the baptist was a nazrite and essine. i think it fits his pattern because infiltration, subterfuge, conspiracy, descention & assassination special ops would be his training and mode of operation which he turned on his master
I believe your understanding is based on valid information. I get so disturbed at teachers who try to describe Judas as the most trusted of the twelve because “having the bag” implies that he was the treasurer and keeper of the funds as they traveled etc. Have they overlooked Jesus’ instructions to take no money or scrip and “not have a bag” and yet what is Judas’ defining characteristic? He had “the bag”.... and was described as having an obsession with money and opportunistic deals! He was a betrayer and Jesus knew it!! Also look at “Son of Perdition” and “went to his own place” the only explanation for this man is Jesus’ “prognosis” Greek for for-knowledge upon which pre-destination is based!

No one forgets Satan's part in it, but the fact of the matter is that his greed made it possible for Satan to use him. Even before Satan possessed him, Jesus had already called him a devil. That says a lot about the kind of person Judas was even before Satan actively used him.

Thank you Tina your comment made me suddenly think of something new to me! Jesus loved His enemies and friends alike but there is one distinction between them. Some of those He loved He named as His ‘enemies’. Whereas others are named as His ‘friends’, as was Judas. Which is indicating to me that not all people who sin against God are considered as ‘enemies’ of God! Many of us are prodigals that have not yet returned to our father’s house on our own but we are still accepted as family. I think Judas was a prodigal who ‘returned’ in his heart and still considered a Friend of God

Judas had free will and was evil from the beginning, he would have been in hell, If he had never met Jesus. In the scriptures he was stealing all the money, even before he betrayed Jesus. Actually Jesus gave him a way to be saved, because Jesus made judas evil deed a good deed, because like you said God knew he would betray him and it was necessary for salvation, so that is why I think he actually got saved , if he truly repented, which I think he has, because he gave the money back and hanged himself .Praise the Lord!

That is indeed an interesting angle to see. Regardless of his ultimate destiny- which some folks like to debate, Judas was still an apostle, handpicked by Jesus, and loved by Him. It is easy for many to think they will be, or are, "better" than Judas, perhaps because they think they will never betray Jesus, never fail, or never fall back. And for that, Jesus will perhaps rebuke us- asking us to repent as in Luke 13. If we think others are more sinful than us, then we are wrong. All have fall short. And to that, we ought not to spit or cast stones on Judas. Thanks for the perspective.

I believe the position Judas had at the “table” with Jesus was significant…as where you sat in relation to the Rabbi meant something…could you speak into that Brandon as I believe it is revealing and like this content helps break the stereotype we have of this man.

I loved this video. Thank you. My struggle is that Jesus had to die so that he could conquer the grave. Judas' sin was he didn't seek forgiveness as Peter did when he denied knowing Christ 3 times before the rooster crowed. You did go where I needed which is Judas could have asked for forgiveness and be forgiven.

The Apostles in the first century didn’t have to study, nor take notes, because they had a direct revelation from God, through the Holy Spirit. Thus, they knew the Bible backwards and forwards. Knowing ALL the scriptures became effortless for them!
I never saw Judas as an evil villain. I’m not saved, but from what I see, if this is the Creator’s plan, then SOMEONE had to do it…could have been Peter, Mathew, John or even Mary Magdalene. He probably felt overwhelmed and guilty, but somehow, this may have needed to play out. I’m sure he was embraced.
I totally agree with you. Judas had his part to play, just like the other disciples/apostles. If Judas hadn't done what he did, the crucifixion would never have happened, the resurrection would never have happened and there would be no story. Jesus already knew how it was all going to go.

He was a type of, if not "the", Antichrist, the idol shepherd, but attempting to be seen as the good shepherd. Jesus, in love, gave him opportunity to repent, but he did not. I've always thought that in the case of Judas, and of Pontius Pilate, it was necessary for them to do what was done, else there could be no crucifixion and therefore no sacrifice (on the part of Jesus) and therefore no salvation. Christianity would have died stillborn. In light of these facts, how can one vilify them and condem them? Their actions were necessary, and IMHO, Jesus would have known this. My $0.02! :)

One of the things I've wondered about Judas is whether his actions were necessary to the gospel. Clearly the Sandhedrin wanted to take custody of Jesus without causing a riot, but I wonder if they could have accomplished that without Judas assistance. Jesus resurrection was necessary to reveal his divinity so it seems that the Passion was part of the plan, were Judas actions part of that plan or were they in spite of it?
I believe Judas thought Jesus would call down angels to save him. The same thing the devil suggested.. it does say the devil entered him.
I don't think he expected Jesus to die and that's why he felt sincerely guilty.

Judas lived and ended his life in the errors of his "Own will" instead of the will of Christ. This is the difference in redemption of Peter, and the condemnation of Judas. We all betray Christ , the difference is we repent and change our ways to be in line with Gods will....not our own.

Here is my interpretation, and I heard this once years ago, but it has stuck with me. Judas had a role to play, and Jesus knew what that role was, and yet, He kept him in the fold. Jesus loved him as much as the other Apostles. He never abused him, called him names, even when He knew that Judas would betray Him. And when all was done, and Jesus descended into Hell, tore open the gates to bring with Him certain people to Heaven, Judas was among them.

the odd part of Judas story is that for someone who handled the money, he would have had plenty of opportunities to taken a side cut without anyone noticing and certainly would have made more than what he got for betraying Jesus.. I suspect there is something to this tale that has been lost to the pages of time or the vatican.

I really enjoyed these videos. I have been betrayed and there are people who would gladly see me crushed. This however is because of my love for Christ, not just reading about his works or thinking about him but truely loving him and seeing him as really the true friend I never had. Now I have comfort in him after looking for love from human beings which never meterialised. No love of human beings can ever surpass Christ`s love.........how can it :-) . Anyway, I do not hate those who hate me, I wish that they are saved. I don`t want revenge as I care for them. Some may find that odd but nevermind :-).

Warning - the word of God is not a TV series. Especially one that makes up most of the storylines, when you have the whole script right there. It's not even in the same order as scripture and I don't know why Dallas made that choice. It's a good series that will make you feel good. May even make you feel good about Jesus but don't mix it up with scripture. I hope it somehow leads people picking up their bible and testing it but possibly not. A disciple visits John the Baptist and John asks what he's like? So why would he need to later send his disciples out to check if he is the messiah?

As Minister to Minister, you mentioned that Judas was approaching Jesus he called to him brother. As you said that Jesus still loved the man who betrayed him. In this next statement :The Rosary with Scripture: Sorrowful Mysteries (Tuesdays & Fridays).
Pilate said I find no crime done by this man, I wash my hands to this matter, it is up to the jews and Rabbi's and they kept yelling out crucified Jesus. Jesus knew that Pilate did not want to be crucified, so he had to release Babbar's .
The love that Jesus had for all people, did he forgive Pilate, because the rabbi's and church followers wanted Jesus dead.
Like in the prayer it is said that he died under Pontus Pilate, why the cover up on the original sinners who put Jesus to death.

Thank you for the presentation! As I grew in my biblical knowledge, I started to feel sorry for him. He seems to have repented and been truly grieved by his sin. We can all relate. I can't say that as a sinner, any of us are better or worse than Judas, nor can I judge him. We all sin, no matter what our intentions are. Christ died and rose for us all. I truly hope that God forgave him, and we will see him in Heaven one day.
Jesus said it would have been better if he wasnt born. Matthew 26:24

Interesting thoughts you have offered about Judas. At times I have wondered about Jesus' selection of Judas as a disciple. Perhaps Jesus knew far in advance that Judas would betray Him. One scripture that stands out in describing Judas' character is what John spoke of in John 12 verses 3-6. When Mary anointed Jesus' feet with costly spikenard ointment, Judas objected, saying that the perfume could have been sold and the money given to the poor. John said about Judas, "He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it." Somehow John caught wind of the fact that that while Judas kept the money box, he would help himself to the money for his own use. I think that as a thief, maybe it wasn't so hard for Judas to take the thirty pieces of silver and betray Jesus. For Judas to day after day and year after year be in the presence of the greatest man who ever lived, hear the eternal truths and words of life that came forth from His lips, witness with his own eyes the perfect example of how to live and who to be, and yet betray him for a few pieces of metal, that to me speaks loudly about the kind of person Judas was, whatever his earlier history may have been.
Judus' betrayal is the curse that turned into a blessing. Without Judus, without death, there is no life.

The motivation of Judas was to put Jesus in a position where He would be forced to use His power to overthrow the Romans just like all the other disciples and all Israelites thought the Messiah would do. The death of Jesus was so overwhelming that Christ's friend hung himself
So sad. Fr Groechel on EWTN said a saint talked of a man who committed suicide and she had a vision he asked for forgiveness before he died or soon after. He said it's wrong to say Judas didn't ask, we all see God at death, good or bad.
