- Is Judas in Hell? The overwhelming consensus over time is that he must be. But has the Church proclaimed that he definitely is? Surprisingly... no. Why?
Jesus teaches us that, while we can evaluate "a tree by its fruits," it is left to God alone to make a final judgement upon someone's heart and determine their destination. Everyone has the grace and the opportunity to say "yes" to God. The sobering flipside to this reality is that hell is real-and it's not something that only really, really bad people choose. "Wide is the road that leads to destruction."
Today, Fr. Mike invites us to ponder our final destination, and whether or not we are truly doing God's will.

Unlike Catholicism, it is discontinued from the apostles not in faith, ie completely, but certainly in some of the most important Christian (Christ's) teachings such as baptismal regeneration.

@@bornagainluis Actually, it says "the Way" (Acts 9:2; 19:9, 23; 22:4; 24:14, 22). At Antioch the _believers_ were first called "Christians" (by others?). The first recorded use of the term "Christianity" for the religion, however, was by Ignatius of Antioch, who is said to be a disciple of the beloved disciple of Jesus (st. John), writing around AD 100. And guess what he calls the Church in his "Letter to the Smyrnaeans "? That's right, he calls the Church Catholic (grk. katholikos = universal)!
Father Mike, I found you through Hallow. I was raised Catholic but I hadn’t set foot inside a church in close to 60 years. My friend sent me Hallow so we could compete in the daily quiz. After a few weeks I started to listen to The Bible in a Year. What was once to me an obscure, antiquated and irrelevant book is being explained in a mature manner that applies to my life today. It has changed me and allowed me to finally open my heart to God. I went to confession yesterday! I’m grateful for the work you do, Father Mike. You’ve opened my eyes. At last. Praise God.

i was always one of those people who calls themselves a "catholic" but never took faith seriously, this channel is super helpful and I'm finally starting to take religion seriously, go to church, and I'm working on becoming eligible for holy communion! Thank you father Mike

Go to confession and then take communion with a clean heart. I went to confession after 20 years…his yoke is light.
Dude i hate to tell you this but nobody's good works or anything they do can get them into heaven. Even if you lived a perfect life with no sin, you still were born into a sin nature and your works are flithy rags before God. I mean to tell you this because whatever gospel you have heard is wrong. There is only one singular way to be saved and that is solely trusting in Jesus Christ for your salvation. Reason being is romans 10:9-10 "Because if you confess with your mouth the lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved." also heres another one that shows that it is so easy to accept salvation "but what does it say? 'The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart' (that is the word of faith that we proclaim)". This means that the word of faith is so easily to obtain that it is in your heart and in your mouth, all you must do to accept it is confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead and you will be saved. But let me be clear faith is not merely believing but also trusting, I can point to a chair and say "I believe that chair can hold me" but that doesn't mean I put my faith in that chair. In order to put your faith in that chair you must believe it can hold you and also sit in it. It is that same with Christ. Now that you are justified before God and your set free from sin there is no reason to come going back to it. You have a stronghold over sin because you have christ. Proclaim christ and grow your relationship with God.

Scripture is beautiful, but it’s just one part. Viz., 30k Protestant denominations with no authority because people think if I just have Scripture, I’m saved. False.
I’ve always been heartbroken for Judas. No one takes their own life just bc. He must have felt so broken and ashamed. We can hope that at the moment of death, He chose God and he could be in purgatory 🤷♀️

What the Catholic church does say though, is that while redemption is completely free, God expects his followers to do good things with the grace he gives! Jesus said "whatsoever you do to the least of my brethren, that you do unto me". If we truly love Jesus, then we will do what God wants!

This is why we must pray for the conversion of sinners.
I always understood it this way: Any living being will be saved if they believe or not, if they are doing good or bad. But at the same time (paradoxically) we all have to do good if we believe. For there to be good on earth there has to be bad. We can´t appretiate good without bad things excisting. Both are equally necessary. But if you believe you want to be good and make everything a better place at all possible times. Thats why we can celebrate that Jesus saved us all. He showed us there is meaning and we have hope even if we do our worst. At every point in live we can start to believe and change to be good.
My daughter and I had a conversation about this very subject recently. It suddenly occurred to us that Judas’ sin was not his betrayal of Christ but, his selfish decision to then not seek forgiveness but instead, take his life. Thank you Fr Mike for as usual, teaching matters that can be so complex, in an accessible way. Continuing to pray for your ministry
Be careful. Both are grave sins. The difference is that taking his own life would be unforgivable if he died still in that sin because it is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit meaning he eternally hid from the Holy Spirit who was trying to get him to convert back to the Lord despite betraying Him.
@@tomlombardo6051Just wondering what makes you believe blasphemy against the Holy Ghost is committing suicide? I thought it was claiming the divine and triune God to be of beelzebub. Matt. 12:31-32 and the context surrounding chapter twelve should guide you into understanding this better. And for people who do think suicide leads to eternal damnation then I would encourage you to read 1 Samuel 16:7 that says the lord knows people by the heart and only God knows what a person’s final thoughts and destination is. I am not saying it is or isn’t selfish but in Judas’ case he felt like he could not be forgiven for a good reason. (Also in reply to the first comment about self murder being selfish what do you make out of Judges 16:28-31?)
I've always felt very sorry for Judas, the great tragedy being that had he only just waited a few days he could have had an incredible conversion, but instead he took his own life and missed out :(

Faith is not a feeling, it is a commitment to a belief that something is true. While the world seems like it is going down the drain, there are those of us who hold fast to truth, beauty and goodness. I want you to know that we want you to join us in hanging on to those things. There are many ways to learn about God - personal witness accounts, intellectual studies, Father Mike videos, etc. Take it slowly if you are hesitant. Find people around you who believe and ask them why. NO ONE will try to make you choose a path simply because you are asking for more information.

Where there is ignorance, let there be understanding.
Where there is superstition, let there be critical thinking.
Where there is wishful thinking, let there be evidence to the contrary.
The hard part to reconcile....is that none of us is perfect...and thus don't make perfect choices. Don't get frustrated and continue to try. God knows our hearts...as do each of us. It is impossible to hide from God our ourselvrs...as hard as we might try...
For there to be good on earth there has to be bad. We can´t appretiate good without bad things excisting. Both are equally necessary. I always believed Judas’s biggest sin was not asking the Lord for forgiveness but instead took his own life. If he asked Jesus for forgiveness be would have been forgiven. This is the sin against the Holy Spirit.
That's what I was told when I went to Catholic school

But I would never call any of those a "claim". For starters, Isaiah, who lived around 700 yrs before Christ, prophesied the birth, life, death and resurrection. There is also the letter written by Pontius Pilot himself to Tiberius Caesar detailing the circumstances of Christ's crucifixion. Any history buff would have a field day just reading and learning about any of this! Now, we should all be on a quest for Truth... especially in today's world. We are different people, you and I. But we should both strive for Truth. And the Truth is God gave his only Son to this world...and he took up our pain and bore the punishment for the sins of man...so that all who believe in Him may have eternal life. He did this for me and whether you believe it or not, he did this for you too. I don't know if you appreciate any of my words. I would talked to the lasts ones.. ther are egoistic doctrines.. as satanism.. bhudism and other ism that work through the autocompassion.. autocomplacence and selfpityness to justify and excuses our actions through the ilussion of the self and the ego in a way that some “self interested” “not so bad” or “ good for me” actions or ended up been a self-indulgent path that turns just around me with the excuse that everyone has to accept me meanwhile I apparently don’t hurt or don’t mess with them.. meantime in the bottom every self oriented person and their actions it’s hurting himself and the others! So.. yes! There’s a whole number of denominations that increase the amount of believes or thoughts that our own good and kindness it’s good just by itself.. but without contemplating that any action independently of the perceived by every individual has a repercussion that probably we can’t see in our own and in the others! That’s why it’s so important to get close to a Way where we can transite confidently without hurting ourself and the others.. to a Thruth that could show us the reality of ourselves and the others without the distractions of the world and a Life of true Love and not a illusion of our ego.. expectations and ambitions! The challenge is between choice and no choice. Passivity is not the solution. Many people don't commit to either destination. If you don't choose Heaven, then you automatically are choosing anything else BUT Heaven. That's a risk I'm not willing to take.

I am so grateful for the people who actually know the definition of judging as Christ mentioned in the Bible, because in today's modern time no one actually wants to use it properly. They all want to excuse their own wickedness and stop moral people from pointing things out which isn't what it means at all. It annoys me to death.
Me too . And as someone who was groomed for childhood abuse and even worse evil this was one of their favorite twists. It scares me to pieces for people because I care. I. keep praying for God to help me to stay calm because my concern often comes out as panic and people see it as anger. Lots of prayers help me be calmer but I’m definitely a work in progress

This just makes me think of all the Christians i have spoken to over the years who are 100% convinced of their salvation because they believe in christ and they think that is enough.

When i was in RCIA 24 years ago, the priest who was teaching, Father Frank Schuster, said we always believe in the ultimate justice of God. Someone in the class asked him if people who live their whole lives never hearing about Jesus go to heaven. I really believe that and i never forgot it. God is incapable of doing the wrong thing. If there is a question about whether someone went to heaven, the answer is that we always believe in the ultimate justice of God.

Father Mike's Enthusiasm is a Good thing! That's why I like him. I knew a Father Mike, Michael Baca, the Biker Priest, in Santa Fe, NM.
With regards to the song, I often think about the context and how in "My Way" and many other songs with that kind of theme, a lot of times the artist really wants to not listen to the world as to what other people think he or she should be or how to behave. When that happens though, is this person now following God's will or his or her own will? I think that's the central question. If it's, "I don't want to just do what the world or other people tell me to do because I want to do it my way and follow what God is calling me to do", then of course that's a good thing. If it's, "I want to do it my way and only do what I want to do regardless of God or anyone else" then of course that's a bad thing.

I hope that I am not stepping off of the narrow road. I try very hard not to. I have very bad depression and anxiety…I am never 100% that I do the right thing all the time…I want to go to heaven I love Jesus…I am scared and I don’t understand why.
I’ll pray for you in your struggle! Nobody does the right thing all the time - that’s the beauty of “for God still loved us while we were yet sinners.” He knows us inside and out, knows our weakness and brokenness, but loves us anyways. We can’t earn His love, and He is always waiting for us to come back to Him when we stumble with open arms, especially in the sacrament of confession. He’s rooting for us and wants our salvation and joy more than we even do - He will give you every grace you need to love Him and get through dark times still by His side.

This may be the single most compelling talk I've listened to by Father Mike. Profound in it's simplicity. Just like training a dog...(everything I ever needed to know in life I attempted to teach my doGs) every interaction is a choice/training moment. NOT guiding your doG to the proper behavior is, in fact, teaching him that the wrong behavior meets with your approval. I agree with Father Mike....we must actively choose God's will or we are actually choosing our own will by default. Sobering thought!!!
