  • Bret Weinstein had Robert Wright on his podcast, marking the first time Weinstein hosted someone willing to disagree with him about covid. It doesn't sound like Bret will ever be doing it again.

I remember a pre-covid time, when he talked about papers and analysed single words in the papers and pointed out that this is an inaccurate statement etc. And then covid came and the guy turned into an expert for everything and went completely nuts. He is so far gone, there is no topic in the world now where he does not think he is smart enough to be an expert. Great example how a (slightly) above average IQ guy can fall into that Dunning-Kruger hole combined with a dozen other biases and effects. I was wondering, what he does after covid - seems like he is still trapped in that hole and keeps digging.
That guy was a teacher in a not great college before he had his woke-incident, which resulted in Joe Rogan "you should do a podcast"-fame. He has published nothing in his entire career except a very flawed paper once and runs around with a Galileo-complex as the right wing poster boy scientist.
God, i just watched 30 seconds of his podcast, he talks about the FTX collapse and how there is clearly a connection to the Ukraine and Energy politics, where "the Bidens" have a pervert interest and it is connected to ivermectin and they know more about that topic because they have been tentacled into it... that guy is so far gone and his wife sits next to him and nods and doubles down. Well, if it sells supplements and CBD i guess.

'Cause we did, it wasn't 100% effective, you can't claim something is 100% effective, 99.99% sure, but that was one of the disputes. Most protease inhibitors were tested, PI3K inhibitors, AMPK and MAPK inhibitors, tensin homologs when COVID-patients presented with vascular issues. You need a small-cell treatment with high binding affinity and sp2 or sp3 hybridization, meaning the kinase and ligands could be potentiated to lowest effective doses to lessen side effects, or at least their severity. Ivermectin didn't fit the parameters, it was tested, if you look at cancer, specifically small-cell lymphoma, or HIV/AIDS treatment, you'll find COVID-treatment testing did well to find treatment for other intervention. OMB sucked under Trump, they dolled out grants for irrelevant research when the need for proper replication was immense.

As I just said in another thread, its a very sad downfall.
At times during the whole COVID issues he was a voice of balance asking valid questions particularly on the lab leak.
But then he just started sliding into nonsense and anyone who questioned his position was a an enemy.
This is one of the big problems when we have issues like COVID. Everyone needs to be prepared to accept they can be wrong when nobody has the full picture. But we now live in such a polarised time where any and every public discussion is immediately dragged into radical positions where proponents just scream at anyone who disagrees with them.
A lot of public issues are complex and there is no simple answer and there is no simple fix. So long as public discussion is tribalized or hijacked by bad faith actors there is no chance of finding solutions.

This is a catch-all show to grab viewers who want to see themselves as smart without ever actually reading anything themselves or watching a full 2-hour conversation themselves. The hosts don't even know who Robert Wright is or what books he has written. Luckily, the Majority Report is a strictly non-doing-your-research kind of place. If you want to see only sound-bites that are edited to ensure that whoever you already don't like looks bad, and to never actually hear someone's words come directly from them, but only trust what people who hate them said they said, then Majority Report is the right show for you. They can't even show Bret's tweet that Robert's tweet was in response to. Then you might realize that Robert mischaracterized what he said in the first place, and it all spirals out of control in increasingly absurd distortions from there. (I listened to the entire 2-hour conversation, and I read Robert Wright's book The Moral Animal many years ago.) I think the hosts of this show and its viewers are looking for the most lazy way possible to appear to know about intellectual topics without doing any actual reading or listening or finding out anything firsthand. Just hear what someone said someone said someone said and call it a day. Hopefully you will all manage to squeak by in life without anyone who actually reads and listens to things bumping into you. Just stay here and watch only this show & maybe you'll manage it.

My 2 cents (sorry for its length, these are however, complex situations): There is truth and misinformation on all sides of the aisle. The politicization of the virus, and the dumbing down of science to a general palpability, has skewed understanding of things that are more complicated, or simplistic, than many will accept or comprehend.
It's true that the vaccine(s) can cause some similar effects as real world infection, however these are immunological: In this case, your own immune system’s own (over)reaction/response to spike. (These same reactions are possible during real world infection(s).) The fact that some people experience these reactions is in part, a testament to the vaccine’s importance. That is/after receiving the vaccine: At least if you become infected from SARS-CoV-2, you will likely not develop the disease; the vaccines are designed to prevent: SARS (COVID-19).
Vaccines do not, nor have they ever prevented infection (Why wild claims of such an effect of the vaccine were ever made to begin with, is unfathomable), nor can they eliminate potential immunological responses (common-cold/flu-like symptoms; this is one of the reasons why some believe/claim that the flu-shot is ineffective). Vaccines prevent specific pathogen proliferation, therein: specific disease.
The possibility of these adverse reactions attributed to the vaccine(s) could be: there is potential for more spike protein being present, (than would otherwise), during real world infection; as the immune system could neutralize the infection, before the pathogen can proliferate to a degree: where the amount of spike in the vaccine, ever exist, thus the immune system response doesn't lead to such an overreaction to present virus/spike protein numbers, that may happen to travel into the heart wall; causing Myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle).
These reactions are not exclusive to the vaccine; they are consequences of infection (this includes clotting). It could be argued: Myocarditis is not (at all) as life threatening as SARS, so the potential risk is a worthwhile trade-off, especially if you are vulnerable to the virus, itself. However, there is no actual way of knowing individuals' chances of SARS development, during an actual SARS-CoV-2 infection, let alone: if unvaccinated. The vaccines have indeed saved lives. To which degree, is impossible to calculate, however, undeniable. Warnings of adverse effects should be provided, nonetheless.
SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 risk development (SARS: The specific disease the vaccines are designed to prevent) is not the same thing.
(I’ll be surprised if this comment is not deleted, no matter how important these distinctions are.)
Nothing I have said above takes into account the current vaccines' effectiveness against all existing variants, as it could be possible to get infected with a strain that you have not been vaccinated against; however, unlikely.

The biggest lesson to be learned from Wright in this exchange was his point that if, in the study being cited ( on the efficacy of Ivermectin), there were two medications administered simultaneously, there is no way to determine which was effective. Brings me to the Joe Rogan situation wherein, after he tested positive for covid, chose not to rely on his "natural immunity" and instead took every pharmaceutical he could lay hands on. He reports that he took hydroxychloroquine, Ivermectin, monoclonal antibodies, prednisone, etc. He reported recovering in about three days. How would/could he know which of these medications, if any, actually had any effect on his recovery time? Many of his fans immediately trumpeted this as a vindication of the effectiveness of Ivermecticin. It was obvious from the response of his worshipers that his story had the weight of a scientific paper and proof that the "establishment" has lied to promote the useless vaccine, once again.

He posts a video and claims that after he took all those drugs, he fell "great" after 3 days. If he had any faith that any one of these drugs would help him, he wouldn't have felt the need to take all of them at the same time. He couldn't possibly know if any of them were responsible for his recovery. Joe has had experts on. @@82fdny97 Looking at claims is not the scientific method. Examining the evidence for claims, pro and con, as to whether they are supportable, with data, is a part of the scientific method. Since I first heard of it I also heard many claims about Ivermectin. There is no lack of claims about this pharmaceutical drug. But there is a lack of data that would support it's use as a treatment for SARS-CoV-2, nor is there evidence for it in a preventive application. I have read about a dozen abstracts of studies ( invitro, animal and human). I am not a scientific researcher so I get bogged down in the details of the main body of a study.
