I've reached the 190ish league avg and kinda plateaued. Nobody else out there explains it like you do. Very teaching moment. Understanding when to move and when to change balls based on what you are seeing is a difficult skill to master. For myself, not the best bowler, thanks to your videos it has made me do a check list each shot. Was it a good shot, did I put it where I wanted, did it do what I expected at the pins.
This combined with your video of holding the pocket will work in tandem to be great tools , I started working on implementing the mindset you spoke of in the the holding the pocket video and have rolled 600 + every league night since . Coupling that with this will be very helpful , you guys are the best .
Ok that‘s great information reading your shoots the right way. Brad shoot exactly those shoots we are happy getting a strike in the beginning. The explanation of the moves is a great piece of advice. Target getting close to ‚death flush‘ splitting 8,9 exciting over board 21 to 22 shoot. You are my heros doing such an excellent job explaining things sharp like a razorblade. Thanks guys!
Excellent video! Also, would you consider exploring what you do for physical conditioning on/off the lanes? As knees, shoulders, wrists wear down, how do you both stay in fighting form when not bowling?
Bowling is a sport dominated by accuracy and consistency so I consider flexibility to be more important then power. If you have a specific problem area like a bad knee or shoulder then focus on improving that area first, otherwise start with your core and work outward from there. Look for an exercise program with a 80/20 percent flexibility to power balance. Have a look at DDP Yoga or Fit and Well flexibility program for flexibility, and Barbell Medicine for strength. Happy bowling.

In Monday night league last night, I was surprised by one shot that struck because it looked like it over hooked but didn't quite go brooklyn, and did the same thing as Brad's first strike in this video, parting the waters, lol.

Alright, I don't have an outlet to tell my short story here other than this... I bowled my first 300 game a couple of weeks ago. It was the second game of the series. The funny thing is I rolled a 299 in game one (my legs were literally shaking😂) finished with an 810 series. I did not make a single move to try and adjust to conditions at all. Threw the same ball the whole night. I think speed is the factor of it all. My average is around 180. This was a complete anomaly of a night.

I think that any ball can strike if you throw it right. It seems that pro bowlers are very dependent on ball manufacturers’ sponsorship hence their emphasis on having the “right ball”. Meanwhile, we fill landfills with used bowling balls. Sad waste of plastic.
This is wat ive been working is staying ahead of the transition and watching how the shot goes thru the pins glad im actually do the right thing i tell the guys i bowl with to start doing this and they wait till they split for adjustments and wonder why they give up a few frames a game
I keep track of my corner pin leaves and that continue to climb. In 3 weeks of league play for the 9 games, I have left 21 10 pins and 12 7 pins. I will give your suggestions a try next Monday.
Sup guys, I'm a league bowler in Australia, and I'm a straight bowler, I own both the Phaze 2 and the Hammer Axe. what drilling configuration would suit my style? Everytime I bowl straight and depending on the nature of the oil on the lane i goes its own way
I love these videos and cannot wait till I get to bowl again. When I got to bowl last week my third and fourth games it seemed like no matter where I hit in the pocket it would not strike. Id leave the 10 pin or the 2, 4, and 5 pins. I am hoping using some of the tips from your videos can greatly raise my average.
For us amateurs, the trick is to not make a move until you execute a couple shots correctly. At that point, if you're not getting the reaction you're looking for, then make an adjustment.
A bit of a counterpoint to this… most of us are so emotionally tied to strikes that we only think we threw it better after we get one. We’re terrible at self diagnosis. I like the idea of having a trusted pair of eyes help us out. Even in this video Brad and Kyle talked about it together and it helped them make their points throughout the video.
I agree, and allow me to take it further and argue that "amateurs" shouldn't move at all. Especially the speed dominant ones. If you're just tryin to average 205 there's nothing wrong with just feeding the ball to the 5 board (or 10 or 15 board depending on how much or how little oil there is), leaving easy stuff to cover, then cover it. Makes me laugh but also kinda cry when I see bowlers who have ZERO business being anywhere left of the 15 board lofting the cap. Bruh. You don't even need to be left of the 2nd arrow. Or these super speed dominant bowlers throwing thane then they wonder why they're leavin 5-7s and 5-10s all over the place.
Whenever my teamates ask what move/ball change they should make after not striking I always ask 1st, did u hit ur mark? Don't make changes on bad shots for sure
The last shot that Kyle threw finished slightly behind the 9-pin, rather than splitting the 8-9. So, I would say it was just short of being called "perfect". The flush shot that Brad threw was closer to being perfect, but maybe I'm just being too picky. Great video, and excellent information!

6:55 If I were bowling with higher rev guys I would stay there. But if I’m bowling with acouple straight bowlers I would either go with an earlier option or move closer to the hook
Ha I really really wish this video came out when I came back to bowling 2 years ago. If the ball wasn't splitting the 8-9 every shot but still striking I would always make an adjustment. Stopping that was probably the best change I've made.
Hé Kyle, why do you let the ball hang on your hand shortly after putting in your fingers and before your stand? Is that to make you recognise the feeling how your hand should be in it? To prevent twisting your hand position on the bal?
At 12:05, you can see the ball do a 4 point zigzag. Hits the 1, 3, 5, and 9. That's what I look for. At 13:34 when you left the 10 pin, watch it do a 3 point zigzag and hit the 9 in the face.
So when you guys move, what tips do you have for not throwing the exact same ball? For example, I try to throw the exact same shot, but if I move, I'm not aiming for the same board but eventually go Brooklyn. I know I am not explaining it the best way, but I hope it makes sense for the basic league guy and having to move.
When wrapping a ten consistent frames I’ve was always taught to change speeds and either move up or move back with ur feet to get solid to the perfect.
New Bowler \ Subscriber here! My wife got me into bowling because it's so accessible and I, as a handicapped person, do not have the full range of motion in my foot required to walk like you normal folk lol That being said, I take all my shots from the foul line without any walk up. I would LOVE to see some tips, demonstrations, drills etc on releasing from the foul line! Y'alls videos have already been super helpful but I'd love to see what a cold start looks like ^~^

I know Kyle said the attention star was probably a better choice, but why choose a pearl over a weaker solid when the fronts are still wet? Why would you choose to move to a pearl over using something like a summit ascent, moving a bit left, and being a tough more firm to prevent 9 pins due to angle?
I just try to get my ball to the pocket. Then ill just adjust my speed or release to get it through the pins better. Once the lane gets trashed ill use my older ball thats worn out and i can stay in a zone for the rest of the night. My biggest problem is tanking a game because i miss a spare or leave a split and have 2 or 3 opens in a row. Then struggle to a 180 or 200
160ish league avg guy here. Best I've ever done is 270something. The first strike was a backdoor, then half the remaining strikes were Brooklyn. If I remember right. Didn't care. I had a stroke so my approach is kind of like a drunk guy stumbling up to the line.
Serious comment, I can't afford to stress about how perfect a strike looks like. Not the way this season's currently goin for me. My goals for the rest of the half of the season is just to leave easy stuff to cover, cover said easy stuff, and make sure I'm keepin the ball in play. Gotta get back to basics. But yeah, any bowler who wants 8+ strikes a game needs to watch this (and their own shots) attentively. Gotta make adjustments from literally every shot in order to run a 240+ average these days. Can't just pitch it from 10 to 5 like back in the day.
I think it is important to know your game as well. We all have different rev rates and so on. What works for Brad and Kyle may not work for me. If I tried to move that far left off of a light hit, my ball would not make it back to the pocket as I don't have the same rev rate. Balling down and moving that far left would compound the problem even more for me.
The bowling gut is smarter than the bowling brain. When your gut starts whispering “hey, maybe we should change xyz”, you’ll have more success immediately making the change than talking yourself into continuing what you’re doing for another shot.
I was subbing in a league not long ago and kept tripping the 4 pin. One of the opponents came to me and made a comment of it and I took it as a HUGE compliment. Now, after watching your video and looking back, I should've been moving slightly left. haha Love your videos!
1 The average bowler does not have free access to a bowling lane to throw thousands of shots every week. 2 MOST people bowl on 5 man teams some 3 or 4 man as well but seldom in one on one where little changes happen. 3 bowlers 50 years ago like E.Anthony maintained a 217 avg w/o modern equipment nor high revs. 4 If your relaying this video to an average player maybe 175-200 throwing high revs is not teaching them anything. 5 If it is a high rev player still struggling to get over 200 they likely need spare shooting help becuase they msot likely already understand the game or just lack enough frames to become more consistent.Remember many bowlers only bowl once a week so 3 games a week most pros play 200-500+ frames a week.
This is a good topic actually. I actually made a ball change on 4 in a row because my ball was going through the pins so poorly, but i was getting breaks, and i had a couple people in my league look at me like i belong in the looney bin. I explained why i didt it, even though i wasnt obligated, and they just kinda said " ok, if you say so." 😂 However, i am probably over critical of myself if i am being honest. I legitimately think it has been holding me back and i have been trying to work on that as well.
Saying that second strike “still got to the pocket” is criminal, pocket is earned strike, while that was a lucky one😅remain grateful for the strike but don’t lie to yourself and say it was in the pocket
There is a large difference between “amateur” and “beginner”. We also want to teach the correct way, not just the easy way. Simplifying it down to moving one board might be a simple fix for a beginner, but these other strategies will make the person a better bowler all around. There are some really good amateur bowlers out there! At the end of the day the goal is to grow the game we love and hopefully bowlers of many skill levels can find our videos helpful. 💪🏼
What ? Have you ever tried bowling on the type of oil patterns those guys have to shoot on ? Pro’s strike more because they are the best in the world ! Respect.
@@cwagner4704 well yeah but it’s easy when you have a guy (tour rep) telling you what ball to throw, at what speed, and what line you have to play according to your ball rotation and rev rate… if i were to bowl on those patterns it would be more of a guessing game, don’t get me wrong they’re the best in the world, but they also have the best tools in the world.

Now to know which ball to use. I got three new balls, I got a Theorem, Ruby, Zen and Prism warp,
To me a good hit is when the left edge of the ball lines up with the left edge of the head pin. I can use this as an indicator of where to move.

They throw more strikes then me because i work 60 hrs a week at the Post Office.
I am definitely not a professional bowler. My problem I only have 1 bowling ball, so I struggle and i throw it differently. My current average is 172

5 If it is a high rev player still struggling to get over 200 they likely need spare shooting help becuase they msot likely already understand the game or just lack enough frames to become more consistent.Remember many bowlers only bowl once a week so 3 games a week most pros play 200-500+ frames a week.

I actually made a ball change on 4 in a row because my ball was going through the pins so poorly, but i was getting breaks, and i had a couple people in my league look at me like i belong in the looney bin.
I explained why i didt it, even though i wasnt obligated, and they just kinda said " ok, if you say so." 😂
However, i am probably over critical of myself if i am being honest. I legitimately think it has been holding me back and i have been trying to work on that as well.

There is a large difference between “amateur” and “beginner”. We also want to teach the correct way, not just the easy way. Simplifying it down to moving one board might be a simple fix for a beginner, but these other strategies will make the person a better bowler all around. There are some really good amateur bowlers out there! At the end of the day the goal is to grow the game we love and hopefully bowlers of many skill levels can find our videos helpful. 💪🏼
Pro bowlers throw more strikes bc they bowl on carry-friendly houses plus they also know how to play the lanes…

@@cwagner4704 well yeah but it’s easy when you have a guy (tour rep) telling you what ball to throw, at what speed, and what line you have to play according to your ball rotation and rev rate… if i were to bowl on those patterns it would be more of a guessing game, don’t get me wrong they’re the best in the world, but they also have the best tools in the world.

@@epickett63 choosing the right ball helps you execute so much better, they go hand in hand, thats the difference of having a cheap made in china paintbrush or a high quality expensive one, you’re not gonna be jason belmonte but you’re still gonna be a pro.
