Million dollars worth of information, for free! Robert, you are seriously a very humble individual. Thank you for being a great ambassador for our sport. I wish you success. You deserve it!!
Holy crap. I’ve been bowling for less than one year, and I have watched 1 million TH-cam videos on how to release the bowling ball. this is easily the most understandable explanation of the details I have ever seen.
I agree. I thought i was doing it and here im not. I couldnt understand it. My elbow goes all bent and all over and it isnt straightening at all and here this video is. Practice in my yard. Our neighbors probably think im nuts.. i mean a little 😁
This video is GOLD. Literally just watched it and just tried the release at home: night and day different. Finally felt that "yo-yo" effect and the ball rolling smoothly off my thumb and middle and ring fingers. THANK YOU, Robert.
Had lessons from some high level coaches. Names that most folks would recognize in the industry. This was a simple but better explanation then all of those lessons combined. Went out on the lanes and noticed an immediate improvement in my release and repeatability. Thanks!😁
Thank you for the kind words, and the donation. Hopefully at worst it gets the students thinking about what can be done to the ball. Again thank you. Robert Smith
Since I got back in the Bowling three years ago, I’m doing OK but all I want is a few more revs and Robert you explain this better than anybody I’ve seen after watching hundreds of videos. Thank you for that. I’m 63 years old going on 64 and I just want a few more revs I’m gonna practice thisand I will let you know. Thank you so much.
An epitome of the most complete HOW to increase rev rate , yo-yo and thumb timing release. Best and Generous teaching, - also made simple for intermediate and advanced bowlers. More Power to Maximum BoB !
I watched Robert at Sam's Town for awhile. Been watching him for decades. Best release and best motion of them all. Now I understand how he does it. GREAT video. After all these years he's still got it. 👍
I'm an old guy and everything is so very different today. I'm 70 now so my game has changed considerably. It happens to us all, unfortunately. Years ago I started trying to improve my release and rev rate by asking people who already had the rev rate I was after. I spent hours, not just a few hours either but probably over 100 hours working on this one thing! I didn't think I'd ever get it but it just wasn't ever explained to me the way that you just explained it! Truth is, a bunch of things I just figured out by accident as I practiced this. I appreciate you posting the video! Good stuff!
my son and i both bowl in Ventura county and see Maxium Bob around at various tournaments. legendary bowler and great person too. he really cares about the youth program at his local house(buena lanes) and goes to the youth tournaments in our area to support the kids and coach them. class act 100%
Robert, you explaining the "release window", and how it starts "back here" (3:21-3:34) was super-enlightening! I'm one of those people who assumed it all happened in a fraction of a second by one's ankle. Thanks so much for making this video. You have a permanent follower!
I was under that assumption as well, and it made me think that because of that I have been rushing my release as I was trying to do the release and leverage at the same time as he talked about in the video.
i have never left a comment on a you video ever but felt i had to here, that is without a doubt the best release video i have ever seen, and i have watched them all! ( obsessed ) did some drills in the living room and have to say after watching i can fell what he is talking about ! exited to give it a try
when I was younger in my prime I had a very good release and excellent timing. I'm trying to get back to do some senior events and some over/under 50 tournaments with my son. The other day while I was practicing I was able to finally fix some of my timing issues and my release came back to me just as you demonstrated in your video. For those that are watching you throw the ball can not feel how slow and effortless the ball feels like when it comes off your hand. This video is right on the mark.
What an awesome way to explain this. As someone who struggles when trying to lower ball speed because I end up decelerating and being unable to maintain my strong ball roll, the part about slowing down the release is what I need to go try out and work on. I never would have thought of that. Thanks, Robert. Long time fan here
Thank you for this video. i don't think I have ever heard tilt being associated with which finger the ball rolls off of. It makes sense. I'm looking forward to playing with that during my next practice session.
Thank you for explaining how to physically feel these releases with actual mechanics. Releasing with more pressure on specific figures is such an obvious idea that went over my head. Now I'm gonna go test axis tilt from weighting it more on my pointer all the way to more on my pinky. I love this
Thank you for this excellent video! This lesson is going to inspire the next generation of bowlers to roll the bowling ball with the same amount of passion you have!
I am thanking you with a smiling heart... You are making tons of bowlers very happy with this video... May God bless you and your family with the abundance of joy and happiness in your career, life and everything that you do... Great life for a great man like you... Again and thank you so much...
That’s how I learned as a 12 year old in the 70’s. I picked bowling up again last year and I’ve been confused with all the different ways people instruct. Everything from releasing with hand under the ball to whipping the hand/wrist. I’m glad to see your video. Thanks!
As the discussion got to changing tilt at release, that got me to realize how much you can change the shape. The emphasis of the middle finger vs. the ring finger can get a ball shape to work for you without a ball change. Then you can with little thought make the ring finger be the lifting force at release. Ah, then Teacher Smith brings in another aspect, the pinky finger doing some work into the ball at release. Something new to myself after 57 years of bowling is the pinky finger of the hand. Maybe have a hole drilled for the pinky finger too.
I can't get over watching Jesper Svensson's release. Unless it's super slow motion, it looks like he's throwing a backup ball. This is one of the most informative videos on release I've seen
This IS THE BEST ‘ explanation of hand release, from forward roll to snapping the wrist to hook the ball 16:23 nice spare shot. I would love to have a few hours with Robert to fine tune what I know. Hands down best video that I have seen in a few years. Well Done R.S
Great video Robert. I used to live in California around the Ventura County area. I moved years ago. Back then there were more centers. I bowled league at Conejo Bowl in Thousand Oaks and Harley Bowl and Simi bowl in Simi Valley. Bowled in Camarillo, Santa Paula, Wagon Wheel bowl in Oxnard. Woodlake bowl in Woodland Hills. You were probably just a young boy back in those days. Great to see you on YT giving invaluable tips and instruction. One of the greats for sure.
Thank you very much Robert Smith. This is a great piece of information. Very informative and easy to understand. Show exactly the important points of a modern powerful release. Love it
Thank you sir you have taken me from being lost to finding my way close to the target of being a good bowler. Thank you. Please keep the video’s coming
R thank you so much……. I was thinking some of the things you explained but didn’t know for sure…. So this video clears up all the doubt……. I’ve watched you bowl since you shock ed the PBA with your technique….. as a rookie…….. so I’m gonna work on it with a different mindset now…… thank you ROBERT
I really appreciate your putting this video together. I’ve been totally away from bowling for about 15 years. Recently a friend talked me into joining him on a league team. I’m so rusty. There’s so much I’ve forgotten and the game has also changed a bit since I bowled more frequently years ago. Balls are much better, inserts seem to be of better quality, and of course TH-cam videos like yours make a HUGE difference! I can’t wait to practice this lesson out on the lanes soon. Thanks again!!!!
One of the best to do it, loved watching you growing up. All of the modern power players owe you a debt of gratitude for your part in the modern power game. Keep the vids coming, and TY.
Yaaaay Finally!!! I cannot thank you enough for this detailed explanation of the modern release, I've been 4yrs trying to figure it out by just watching videos. with this video I can work on it for myself then pass it on to my youth bowlers. You Are the Man 😄
without a doubt the best bowling release video ive seen explained so perfectly now i see that ive been trying too hard robert i want to thank you for this
This has got to be the best explanation to releasing the ball, it all made sense, Now as far as the tilt part, well that's another story, don't really understand all of it. Thanks Robert
Awesome. Took this to the lanes subbing in a morning league. 720, 1 split-open, without doing much w/ finger pressure; ball driving pocket in med-hvy oil. I'm 82. Thank you.
I have a bad habit of trying to release the ball quickly off my thumb which causes me to rush everything, including my foot speed to the line and constantly have to remind myself to slow it down! This is the best video I've seen on releasing the ball slightly slower to stay in sync with your foot speed! I've tried it, WHAT A DIFFERENCE IN BALL REACTION!!!! Thank you, Robert👍👍👍
Great video, all the other release videos on youtube are good until you get to the point of the release. Yours by far explains rotation and tilt the best. Great job.
Thanks Robert! Every other youtube videos just asked you to have a quick release and not breaking your wrist after the hit zone, it might be a good way to do it reversely and slow everything down instead to achieve the Less is More principle . I will definitely try it and see if it can make a difference to my game.
Thank you so much for this. Watched this along with some of your old tournaments to help visualize it for myself. Tried it at league yesterday with medium speed - 695 series (about 100 pins above average). What helped the most is when you mentioned taking your time and being thorough. Because it does look fast watching it. But it feels very efficient and like you said - I can feel it down my arm where it rolls off of my hand. What I have done in the past is over-emphasize lifting the ball - which ends up with me hitting up on the ball. Not anymore. Thanks again.
Wow!!!, I've watched a LOT of videos on release...but u made that so much easier to understand!!! And as u mentioned that's gonna take a lot of practice!!! Thank you so much for this informative demo/ video!!!
Thanks Robert! Great educational video. Your short video on how to pick up ten pins via the dual line up (dots and arrows) has been a great additions to my game. Went from only picking up 70% to 95% of ten pins using your technique. Mucho Gracias!!
Thank you for making this video. I have been going through the release methods you are doing just by watching videos like these. Your explanation of the process makes things a lot easier to understand and I learned a lot. I will be working on some drills on different areas in the downswing to collapse my hand. I will be watching this video at least 10 more times until it’s embedded into my subconscious mind.
Best release video I’ve ever seen. I have been struggling with my release for so long(always lifting the ball). I think this video is gonna help me out alot. Thanks Maximum BOB
Thankful for your explanation! I always was curious about emulating you and now we have it straight from the horses mouth. Amazing videos! I'm a huge fan of the content and really hope to see more.
Helped my game a huge ton! Broke my PB by a hell lot just from one tip alone from this! Thank you so much Maximum Bob! Have been a fan and always will be! Hope to see you one day to thank you for this! 😊
Thanks for the detailed explanation and demonstration. I will be using this video for my students, since I'm always trying to get them not to hit the ball, but roll it; and roll it consistently. It also emphasizes the end point of the release, which the students only get to if everything up until that point is done correctly. Your insight into the changes in the release and the changes in ball motion that results is invaluable, and your info is masterfully presented. I will be referring a lot more students to any video you produce; and thanks again.
Thanks so much for the amazing explanation; I can't wait to hit the lanes and try some of this out. I would LOVE to see you post some slow motion videos of your release doing your fast, moderate, and slow releases just to see the differences and where your release movements correlate with your approach and delivery.
This might just be the best explanation video of how to release the ball. Excellent video Robert.
Man, the guy with the most legendary release in the history of bowling spending 20 minutes explaining it. Awesome, man. Thanks for this.
Million dollars worth of information, for free! Robert, you are seriously a very humble individual. Thank you for being a great ambassador for our sport. I wish you success. You deserve it!!
He’s a great guy. Got to cross at a regional with him. Great person. Very humble
I’ll take $10. 😂. Thank you for the post William.

I've been bowling for 50 years, and the explanation of the finger pressure is the best info ever.
I, agree. 👍

Awesome video ... The yo yo release is very effective and helpful especially old guys like me who want to stay in the game .
This was the most thorough explanation of the modern release I have ever heard. Explained by my all-time favorite bowler. Money!
The greatest bowling release video of all times. 💯
I wouldn’t go that far. 😂
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
my son and i both bowl in Ventura county and see Maxium Bob around at various tournaments. legendary bowler and great person too. he really cares about the youth program at his local house(buena lanes) and goes to the youth tournaments in our area to support the kids and coach them. class act 100%
I got to meet him a couple years ago at a tournament here in Arizona. He was so down to-earth and easy to talk to. Great guy!

Thank you for the great advice.
Awesome content, thanks Robert! So many bowlers prescribe getting under the equator maximally, and never really talk about overdoing it. Subscribed
Best explanation of the modern release.
i have never left a comment on a you video ever but felt i had to here, that is without a doubt the best release video i have ever seen, and i have watched them all! ( obsessed ) did some drills in the living room and have to say after watching i can fell what he is talking about ! exited to give it a try
Rob hands down this is the best explanation of how to do the pro release 🤙🏽

Worked on this, today. Effortless power. Whoa! 😮
I enjoyed this immensely. I remember the days when you would kill all of us in win-a-spots for the PBA tournaments in SoCal. Thanks, Robert!
Thanks for the info. I've been bowling for over 20 years and this was the best info I've ever heard. Great job! Thank you!
This guy was so much fun to watch back in the day. Great video too. I really enjoy watching your tutorials. Max Bob is the goat
Thank you for this excellent video! This lesson is going to inspire the next generation of bowlers to roll the bowling ball with the same amount of passion you have!
Thank you Robert for all these videos. Love the channel. Good luck on the PBA50!

I've watched a LOT of bowling videos. This is far and away the best explanation of proper release I've ever seen. Excellent video.

This video is amazing ... to be able to teach information in this way is beyond amazing
Best of the best. Especially not more speed equal to more revs ……. Master of the master. Thank you so much.
Underrated video. Very good info, breakdown and not over saturated with to much information
Thank you very much Robert Smith. This is a great piece of information. Very informative and easy to understand. Show exactly the important points of a modern powerful release. Love it
I’m practicing this today!
I need to watch this five more times though 😅Thank you

Thanks for another awesome vid Rob kona bowl misses you .. would love to see you back on these lanes again soon 🤙🏾
This makes so much sense, and an excellent explanation. Thank you Rob, gonna try this out asap!
Thank you! This video has helped me understand what I need to be working on as a new league bowler. I can't wait to work on this release!! You rock!!
😍 best explaination on release

Great video. Best explanation to date on release.
Fabulous instructions.
I would of loved to see how many titles you would have won if you would of stayed healthy. You were definitley been a force to be reckoned with.
Luv your work thanks for info on your release 👍
Great video Rob! You explained it perfectly.
Thank you for making this video. I have been going through the release methods you are doing just by watching videos like these. Well……how it go?
Thanks for the kind words.
@@RobertSmith-dk1yx still working on it. I can tell you this much…my couch don’t like me right now 😁
Thankful for your explanation!
Thanks from Italy, a complete explanation.
Superb video. Commenters are spot on! Thanks Robert!
Amazing explanation of the process of releasing the bowling ball...
Loved it. Perfectly understandable. Thanks Bob.
This was very well explained and very much enjoyed. I will be returning to look this over.
Thank you so much Robert. Very good...
Jim, Thank you. Hopefully gets them thinking a lot more on what can be done to the ball.
Thanks so much for the amazing explanation; I can't wait to hit the lanes and try some of this out. I would LOVE to see you post some slow motion videos of your release doing your fast, moderate, and slow releases just to see the differences and where your release movements correlate with your approach and delivery.
Thank you Robert, I am really enjoying the videos you are producing and gaining good knowledge that I hope to apply to improving my game.
Maximum Bob!!! Great video! 🔥🔥🔥
I had to subscribe after seeing this as it is hands down the best video I have seen on this topic. Thank you.
