I like how during the game they act all tough and serious but immediately after the perfect 300 they're all smiles and hugs. Like, "who cares who won, this was awesome bro". Sportsmanship is greater than rivalry.

To have thrown one myself, it takes some luck too. You can smash the pocket perfectly and send pins flying and be staring the 10 dead in the eyes unphased in any given frame. I've shot god knows how many 279/287's and 3 or 4 299's throughout the years and all it takes is 1 flippin' pin to ruin that perfecto 300. Even with Cooley's, he had luck kicking the 4 down on a shot he threw wide and shouldn't have struck but he did.

I lost my arm in Iraq in 05. Then I had vessels removed from my other arm that same year. My remaining arm was very weak. As therapy, my doctor suggested I find a way to strengthen it with hand exercises and light weights. One day I decided to go bowling because I could use the lighter kiddie bowling balls to start and it wouldn't put to much of a strain on me. 6 months in and I was using much heavier balls and feeling strong. I developed a spin and it became consistent. 1 year and 5 months after my surgery I bowled a 248 and I still get happy thinking about that day. I haven't been able to eclipse that mark but gotdammit, I'm a bowler.

Speaking of stone 9 pins, when I started bowling back in the mid 60s, a man I consider a great junior coach Bob Blackley in Sacramento taught us the perfect strike ball takes out only 4 pins. The 1-3-5-9 (or 1-2-5-8). I’ve tried to always live by that and has always worked well for me.
He also taught us that any spare, save for straight across splits, can be picked up by the shooting the 7, 8, 9, or 10 with minor variations of each angle. These principles have always worked for me. 😊😊

It's all about meaning business and staying serious...my coach worked with me on learning to tune out the nonsense and just focus and I did for many years and was carrying a 210+ average in 3 leagues and shooting 700+ was cool but nothing I got uber excited about after about the 10th one. Never threw an 800 series and doubt I ever will since my bowling is much less frequent now and happy with having a 787 being my high. Best thing is I did happen to nab a 300 and get a ring in my peak.

Yeah it nice to see. Then again, hard to be mad about losing a game when your opponent rolls 12 strikes in a row for a perfect game.

I remember when I was first introduced to bowling. My grandmother took me to a place in Roseburg Oregon called Indian Lanes. Such was where I cut my teeth. Righty bowler, one-handed. I learned quickly about form and tempo, spin and angle control. My favorite way to get strikes were the similar way Sam was hitting them. Straight on the front pin. Of course, gentle angle so as to agitate a spin out of all of the pins for the cascade. At this point in my life, I would have to retrain to bowl lefty. It's been many years since I've bowled. Mostly been disc golfing.

They are all like that game. Usually they both hit 300, and it takes 3 tie breaker games before someone does not hit 300.

It would be nice to see bowling make a comeback - it was so popular in the 60s-70s. Kids, especially, need more 'hi-touch' and social activities. I was in leagues junior high and high school. Over 200 was a big deal for me!

I came to the last 2 balls of my first perfect game and my foot stuck injuring my wrist when i fell forward and the ankle and knee that got stuck mid slide. This is so hard to do and any hiccup can throw you off. Hats off to these guys that can do it under this kind of pressure.

Is the trail behind the ball a reactive lane (varnish?) or is that a post-effect added in editing?

I enjoyed this, seeing a 300 game is rare for me. I am used to watching pro bowlers win with scores that many of the better bowlers at any local lanes bowl consistently. I'm not one of those guys I just enjoy bowling.
