  • An introduction to our new motorhome, a 1998 Fleetwood Bounder M-34V. 20 years old but only 7040 lifetime miles. Needs some work, but too much potential to pass up with so few miles. Thanks for watching, and stay tuned for additional videos of fixing and upgrading it.

I am in a similar situation, just looking at purchasing a much smaller Class B. Many times when you see the low miles, the price goes up substantially, but as another person stated to me age is far more important than mileage. I think in many ways you're better off with something with normal mileage or just a little less than normal, as you know the person maintained it along the way. I guess the worst case scenario is every rubber part on the thing needs to be replaced due to deterioration. And if it's got a generator you can probably count on that needing to be repaired. old brittle wires can cause you a whole host of headaches. I've been down this road before trying to trace phantom electrical problems. OMG, Don't get me started. Unfortunately sometimes the cheapest rvs tend to be the most expensive. I sincerely hope this is not the case for you, but I would make sure you check every single belt and hose on the thing. Old vinyl lines in the water system, pumps, gas line and refrigerators are all going to need attention. It's very likely the foam rubber cushioning has deteriorated to the point it needs replaced to. I see it's actually been five years since you posted this. missed that. I guess it's a good time to ask how it turned out? how much money did you end up throwing at it?

New to your channel. Watching with interest as you've upgraded things to your RV. I have a 2000 Bounder 34D with a floor plan exactly like yours. It is my second Bounder and I love it. Mine is mostly original except I have replaced the vinyl flooring in the kitchen and bath, and a new toilet. Everything else is in great condition. Bounders are awesome motor homes! Enjoy.

I'm really grateful for your comments and enthusiasm. Getting the Bounder ready for travel has taken longer than I had hoped. But I am looking forward to a nice long road trip this summer!

Cool project. I will be following. Would u mind telling us how much you paid for your motor home? Once you overcome all your problems you will have a great rv being 20 years old , don’t forget to check suspension parts. There’s probably not much wear but all rubber type parts like bushings or seals may be dried and cracked. Usually those parts are pretty inexpensive. And I would change every possible fluid like transmission brake power steering coolant and oil of course. Oh and differential as well. You probably have plans on that already. The tires if original probably look great but check for dry rot and cracking. I’ve seen them blow out before and they still looked new. Best wishes on your endeavors. I think it great!!

Glenn, thank you for the note. I absolutely plan to change every possible fluid, most of which in all likelihood is original and hence 20 years old. The tires are probably original as well, and so I plan to replace them all this Spring before heading out on any trips. That will cost me some money, I'm sure. My next video will be about some roof work because it has leaked a bit from neglect.... Thank you for watching and commenting.

Thank you for the note. I bought the Bounder in Dec 2018, almost a year ago, and I have made some good progress on it. Good luck with your Winnebago.
