  • Our 19933 Fleetwood Bounder RV Class A Motorhome has seen a full renovation over the last two years with a lot of work done by my Fiance and I personally. Most of the work we've done has been on the interior of the coach which is what I mainly walkthrough on this video.
    We did, in order that you'll see it:
    New ikea Couch to replace the old futon style couch
    Shelf and TV
    Dinette renovation with water damage and new seating
    New kitchen counter, backsplash, drawer pulls and painted the cabinets
    New microwave and wooden surround
    Full renovation of the bathroom including walls, new vanity built from scratch new sink, mirror, faucet and more
    Full renovation of the bedroom including flooring, rebuilt bed with storage, new nightstand and accessories.

    I have a 1995 Bounder 34J, Ford chassis. Fleetwood builds a great coach. If they have had a modicum of care in their life and you don't let water intrusion get out of hand, they will serve for years and years, well beyond what some current RV are built to offer.

    my grandparents RIP❤❤ spent their retirement in one of these every winter to see the USA. Brings back a ton of good memories even though I was just a kid. It shows how great American engineering can be and how long it lasts because I see old Bounder RVs everywhere even today. And they are not renovated at all or as well as yours!

    • @OutdoorsPodcast
      @OutdoorsPodcast  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for sharing such a fun story about your memories with your grandparents. We've been pleasantly surprised at how well the old girl has held up despite taking her down some pretty gnarly roads and into the backcountry where I'm sure she wasn't really designed to do. We've seen so many horror stories from newer camper owners that spend half of their first year in RV service centers fixing the stuff that was broken from the factory.
      I've given some serious thought to upgrading our rig to a newer fifth wheel and 250/350 pickup truck, but i'm terrified of the quality that these manufacturers are pumping out these days in the 75-125K category.

    I'm a bit late to the party. Just bought a 2017 35K bounder and was looking at bounder stuff. I saw yours and thought, yeah...not what I'm looking for. But I clicked on anyway. So glad I did. What an amazing thing you're doing with this mostly classic rig. Mine is used, good shape. But there's things that the original owner did that would make any reasonable person ask, "What were they thinking?" I saw some things in your video that gave me direction. I just retired and we're taking off soon.

    I plan on doing the butcher block and getting a single bowl sink instead of the double to increase counter space. I'm also going to go with a convection oven and get rid of the gas oven and range and go with Induction plug-in burners. They will not be built in, so when I'm doing food prep I have a LOT of counter space. I plan on a huge battery bank (over 1kwh) and solar, and getting rid of as many gas appliances as I can.

    Love the look of this RV! My wife and I just got our ‘91 31ft Bounder yesterday and I am o pumped to get working on the renovation! We are pretty much using this video as a guide for our reno so thank you!
    I had a few questions about the ceiling as well as the old school incandescent switch style lights. Our RV has a fabric material on the ceiling. Did you keep this stuff or pull it down and paint? I would love to get rid of it but not sure what is underneath 😬 I also plan to paint the AC plastic vents as they are now yellow and covered in years of dust. Finally, hoping to switch out the old switch lights for LED lights. Did you do this or did you keep the old ones in there?
    Great video and beautiful renovation! Thank you for sharing and looking forward to hearing your suggestions!

    • @OutdoorsPodcast
      @OutdoorsPodcast  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Chris, congrats on the acquisition of your new bounder...what an adventure you’re about to embark on! We kept the carpet type fabric on our ceiling. Under it is pretty much the underlayment plywood that’s under the roof material. My fear if you rip it down and paint, is the RV is going to be suuuuuper loud when it rains or when you are driving, the material on the roof eats a lot of noise and keeps it from being one big echoey box.
      We plan to switch out our older dome lights for new LED’s for sure. The older ones burn kinda hot, and they use a LOT more power off the batteries then LED ones do. Each piece of the renovation will take longer, and be more expensive then you think, but it will be worth every minute and penny.
      Follow me on IG @outdoorspodcast and we can talk directly if you have questions, I’d love to help if I can.

    Great video, your comment about the view while driving was spot on. People join me up front when we're traveling and love it! We have a slightly newer Bounder ('95 chassis). Have you done anything about your headlights? Retrofit them with LED or anything. Ours is terrifying to drive at night, the low beams shine about 12 feet in front. High beams are awesome. Ours is bone stock, had it for 6-7 years and need to do something with it. What did you do with the floors? Is that a pocket door to the redesigned bath?

    • @OutdoorsPodcast
      @OutdoorsPodcast  ปีที่แล้ว

      We haven’t changed our headlights, and like yours, they are garbage. We just don’t drive at night. We are rarely ever making jumps longer than 3 hours so it’s pretty rare we have to drive at night.
      The floor is vinyl roll that looks like wood, we’ve been very happy with it so far.
      The door to the bathroom swings out into the hallway, also original.

    I was wondering if you know much about the heating system. I live in northern Alberta and I was wanting to winterize my unit to live in. I noticed one heat vent in the water tank area and one in the sewage tank area but air does not appear to be flowing through them. Do you know if there is a shut off some where in the unit. Or can you direct me to someone who would know.

I can tell you we have crossed the Rockies, gone through several passes over 9,000 feet in elevation and spent lots of time down gravel roads, with less then ideal roadways and never had any huge problems. Cheers to your project, it’s worth the effort for sure!

    A couple questions:
    What is the best process for getting the disgusting carpet removed and installing something not carpet lol?
    What kind of paint did you use for the cabinets? I want to paint mine but hubby is worried it'll start to bubble and look bad.

    • @OutdoorsPodcast
      @OutdoorsPodcast  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pearly that's a great question. The former owners removed all the carpet, we simply laid down this roll of thick vinyl, wood floor looking stuff. We've liked it so far and we used a liquid nails type adhesive to stick it to the subflooring.

Is there a main switch to turn them all in in the living/kitchen area? I bought pick lights but I’m afraid if we wire them in we won’t be able to control whether they are in or off. Any suggestions would be awesome!

    I have a 1990 31K with the 5.7L Chevy. Does your trans have a D-Overdrive (4th gear)? My Turbo400 does not and I am trying to find an aftermarket inline overdrive unit so I can safely travel the highways at 65mph. Next ? What kind of paint did you use on the cabinets and what prep did you do before painting over the vinyl woodgrain? I want to replace all the particle board cabinets with real wood. Nicer appearance and it's lighter in weight. Also I need to replace the rear bedroom floor. Whole particle board subfloor damaged from water. How far did you go to get your beautiful floor. Thank you. I am truly inspired to get on with my project.

    How much did you spend on the restoring this?

    • @OutdoorsPodcast
      @OutdoorsPodcast  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Corey, I was wonder when that question was going to pop up! It's difficult to say exactly for two reasons, we haven't kept every receipt and many of the costs I have incurred aren't only for the bus.
      That being said, I'd imagine we are about $4-6 grand in on all of the renovations. We've painted the inside, all new cabinet hardware, a new couch, new countertop in the kitchen, completely redid the bathroom, fixed water damaged walls, flex sealed the roof, built a new bed and nightstand, plumbing work, generator work....
      The costs that add up aren't the actual items you install or the wood, it's the paint brushes, cleaning materials, screws, tools, fasteners and other stuff that really pinch your wallet. We are going to paint the outside of the bus this week and we spent $199.00 on rollers, paint trays, blue tape, sand paper, paint poles and all of that, before we event spend $200-$300 on the pain itself.
      I say all of this to tell you this, don't let the cost deter you...we could have saved money all over the place and spent a lot less then we have if we just wanted to cruise around. We want this to feel like home so we have spent more money then we'll get back on the sale of our beloved "Doris" and that's ok...
