I'm really surprised that Storm Kings Thunder wasn't mentioned more in here. There are a lot of resources for the Barbarians in there, as well as the stat blocks for enemy encounters. I actually picked one of their mounds as a random encounter while the party was traveling through a mountainous region.

FYI: Uthgar Gardolfsson came from the island of Ruathym. Plus, you forgot to mention the lost Uthgardt tribes (Red Pony & Golden Eagle), who descended into the underdark and were transformed into Grimlocks. ;)

I have done a ton of reading into the Savage Frontier these past few months, but I had not encountered anything saying that those two tribes became Grimlocks 🤔 big revelation.

I am in the early stages of writing my first module, and it will be set in the savage frontier. Thank you for this! It really narrows down the tribes nicely.

I am know I am super late, but I am watching these videos while prepping a retro 3.5 forgotten realms campaign and I am using The North Guide to the Savage Frontier as reference and I can confirm that Morgur's Mound is actually referenced in this book..Albeit in the map in the back. I just so happened to be prepping the Craglands at the time, and heard you say that and was like...wait...a minute. Thought I would just mention it lol.

The Uthgardt and Reghedmen both have a common ancestor from the same island Uthgardt came from Ruathym. The netherese mixed into the Thunderbeast tribe.

I went through all of the races videos and I realize you're talking about the native races of Toril, thats why Loxodon, Firbolg, Genasi, Kenku, Tabaxi and such where left out, but could you maybe do a video (even better a serie) about how this outsider races fit into the Forgotten Realms? I'm a giant fanatic, I love playing Firbolgs and Loxodons and it's kinda hard finding anything worth watching about them.

I had a totem warrior Ghost Tree half elf in the only Dragonheist-Dungeon of the Mad Mage campaigns I was able to play instead of DMing, it worked great.
The Silver Marches book for 3.0/3.5 also has some info on them, with specific stories for Black Lion, Grey Wolf, Red Tiger, Celestial pony and Black Crow tribes and characters. Faiths and Pantheons for that same edition, also has a wealth of lore on spiritual practices, and I strongly encourage it for anybody wanting to play a shaman.

Grandolf Beorunna was from Ruathym, so it is quite possible that Uthgar came from there too. Like all illuskans basically.

Would Ancestral Guardian work too for Uthgardt barbarians?

Jordan. Can you do me a favor? Can you throw something together about my favorite woman of all time? My beloved Cattie-Brie?
She felt it like a heartbeat beneath her feet. The Land Alive again. The rhythm of Life Itself. It compelled her to dance. And, though she had never been a dancer, her movements became fluid and graceful. A perfect expression of the springtime forest into which she had been placed. And though her hip had been wounded badly -- forever wounded, they had all believed -- she felt no pain when she lifted her leg high, or leaped and spun in an inspired pirouette.
She came upon Regis in a small field of wildflowers, looking on ripples upon a small pond. She offered a smile and a laugh. And she danced around him.
    "Are we dead?" he asked.
    Cattie-Brie had no answer.
For, there were the worlds out there. Somewhere beyond the trees of the Springtime forest. And there was... here... This existance. This pocket of paradise. An expression of what had been from the Goddess Mielikki. A gift given to her and to Regis. To all of Toril.
"Why are we here?" The halfling, who was no longer tormented by shadowy, huddled monsters asked?
Because they had lived a good life, Catti-Brie knew.
    Because this was Mielikki's gift.
To Drizzt as much as to them.
An expression of wondrous memory from the goddess who knew that the world had changed forever.
Cattie-Brie danced away, singing. Though she had never been a singer, her voice sounded with perfect pitch and tone. Another effect of the enchanted wood.

They remained on Toril, though they did not know it.
They remained in a small pocket of an eternal springtime forest amidst a world growing dark and cold. They were of that place, as surely as, and even moreso, than Cadderly had been of Spirit Soaring. To leave would be to invite the nightmares and the stupor of abject confusion. For any others to enter would invite unto them variations of the same.
For, the glen was the expression of Mielikki, a place of possibilities.
Of what could be and not of what was.
There were no monsters there, though animals abounded.
The gift was a private one. Not to be shared.
A secret place. The Goddess Mielikki's indelible mark.
Mielikki's fitting monument on a world that had moved forever forward in a new direction.

On the point of the place being named after his brother, maybe he was the one to dedicate it to him? its not too uncommon for a place or object to be known by the dedicator rather than the dedicatee.

I've been playing a character named Ragnar, who's father is a member of the Reghedman Elk tribe, and mother a member of the Black Lion Uthgardt tribe. He's a war cleric who invokes deities like Thor, Odin, Crom, and Tempus, but above all, Uthgar. His personality and voice are basically Nordic Hulk Hogan.

Was Wolfgar from the Legend of Drizzt part of the Uthgart barbarians or the other one you mentioned? I know he was in the tribe of the elk and from Icewind Dale which are descriptions you gave to the Uthgart.

    • @justincarlozmaxino1100

Apparently not in the wiki Tribe of the Elk is part of the Reghedman barbarians which stands with what Wulfgar said the in books when Companions of the Hall encountered the Sky Ponies

@@jonathanhebert5271 Mhm that's what I said Tribe of the Elk is part of the Reghedman barbarians which was regarded as Uthgardt.
I'd say its fairly accurate as Wulfgar did regard them as 'cousins' in the books.
I'm speculating but during the time Salvatore wrote it the game probably was still in 1st or 2nd edition when the rules were much stricter and he probably would have had to used the same Barbarian Tribes available back them.

    • @jonathanhebert5271

@Danger Noodle my apologies, I must have misunderstood. I don't get to play dnd as much as I used too, and if I'm being honest not many of the novel authors keep my interest for very long. which is a round about way of saying I get 90 % of my info from salvatores and greenwoods novels. I havent seen the word reghedman in any of salvatores novels that I can recall. and I don't recall elminster interacting with the tribes at all lol
but that's why I love the forgotten realms. the history and lore go so deep and new lore is added almost daily. keeps me interested even after all this time.

if thunderbeast has a dinosaur mound, the skeleton is probably a Brontosaurus ( thunder lizard) and before anyone gets on that Apatosaurus and Brontosaurus is the same, no, in 2015 it was found that they where distinct enough to validate it being two seperate species
