  • The Uthgardt is a collective term used to refer to various human barbarian tribes who worship the deity Uthgar.
    Today we learn about the Barbarian tribes who wander the North. Tales of them are used to scare children in Waterdeep and the Silver Marches and warn travelers who want to take a shortcut.
    They live between the High Forest and the Spine of the World and migrate over large swaths of land. Often in conflict with themselves, they are less unified than any other faction in the realms.

    As I gather more knowledge about Forgotten Realms, more I understand, how goddamn hard it is being just simple human being, willing to live your simple life. Everything around you is so rich in details, that you can't simply ignore it.

    I started my early adventures as a barbarian being as I'm Uthgardt with the typical features of black hair, blue eyes, and bigger and taller than the rest of my peers. My Uthgardt mother died when my village was caught in an attack between two armies when I was just a baby. I don't know who my father is as my foster father who was friends with my mother said she never mentioned him. All I know is that he was Uthgardt as well. While I may have become a fighter and later on an elite body guard for the city I serve, I never lost my battle prowess of my people and my chosen weapon is that of a great axe which I specialize in. It's great to hear more about my people and where they came from. Thank you for this!

      Indeed! I haven't read the Storm King's Thunder yet, so I just thought you were drawing heavily from that second edition book you mentioned.
      I don't know what you have down your pipeline of videos, but there's a region of the realms that, even though has been the setting of some stories of Drizzt, seems highly underrated/ignored by players in general: Damara/Bloodstone lands. It would, probably, the only ever video focusing on that region. Maybe it's worth considering.

    So is this channel dead now? There hasn’t been a new video in two months.
    I was hoping they would cover more of Faerun,
    -like history of Silverymoon,
    -lore of all the different races, would love to know more on the Dragonborn,
    -history of the different dwarves kingdoms,
    -lore of gods and goddesses. Their rise and fall. Who is still being worshipped and by whom
    There is still so much more lore that could be covered.

    • @maverickman6486
      @maverickman6486 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the icewind dale tribes are of a different often times blonde hair and blue eye stock and do not revere Uthgardt.

  • @Dalboni
    @Dalboni 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There is a misconception here about the cultural reference of the Uthgardt. The photos are inspired by Reghedmen tribes, or Tundra Tribes(Scandinavians), while the Uthgardts were Forest Tribes(Native Americans).
    This is a common mistake since Icewind Dale chronicles "The Crystal Shard" cause Salvatore used both ethnical groups and they both separe themselves among totems, even being entirely different. Since them, draws were all wrong and confusing every player... The Reghedmen almost disappeared from the realms cause everyone confuses them to the Uthgardt.
    See "Faiths & Avatars" AD&D and search for Uthgardt priests.

    • @ForgottenRealmsHistory
      @ForgottenRealmsHistory  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, the picture is in Powers and Pantheons, not Faiths and Avatars (since Uthgar is a lesser power) - While the pictures there show them as "Native Americans" - their ancestry and behavior is closer to the germanic and tribes that fought/fought for Rome (Rome being the Netheril Empire). They speak the "Norse" language in the realms Illuskan, so clear connection with Vikings in that aspect. Uthgar the Battle Father is also an Odin/Tor analogy and all the names used by the people in the tribes are all Viking oriented "Son" "Dottir". Their titles are viking titles (thane), and their history is intertwined with typical norse mythology of killing Giants and hating magic.
      The following sources were used during the creation of this video:
      Grand History of the Realms
      The Savage Frontier
      Powers and Pantheons
      Players Guide to Faerun
      Storm Kings Thunder
      Netheril Empire of Magic
      Most/all of these point towards a germanic/norse type barberian.

    When narrating in your spoooooky voice, don't end sentences with a preposition!
    Good story though.

    • @ForgottenRealmsHistory
      @ForgottenRealmsHistory  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sentences not ending with a preposition is a rule for the softies in the heartland, speaking their Chondathan languages. This is from the high north, where they speak Illuskan. Where sentences can end with prepositions and punctiation is optional

      @@ForgottenRealmsHistory - So the High North has an education system, similar to American public schools. Got it.
      I guess that means in ten years, half of Faerûn will also be speaking Spanish.
