Do it by ear, i dont like this short because it isnt a one method for all sounds type of thing... a lot of times i have a high hold. Play with your envelope while listening rather than setting and forgetting

I like turning everything off and turning hold all the way up. The note will play for as long as you make the note then will stop immediately after

There's no envelope when adding it to the channel rack. Are you applying it on an OSC3X or something?

Hold is for how long you want the sample to play after attack, but before decay and release. Maxing out sustain is all you need.

Your attack is either too high or the sample is off time. You can fix it by opening the sample by double clicking it when you drag it into the sampler and changing the start knob.
