WSC OG here, initially doing some looking on cold starts w. TGV deletes but this was a fun watch. I write this on a +30oC day on another continent... I miss the crackling of the snow of our winters - to some sorrow, might be a while before I'm back.
Get a block heater installed and hide the plug some where easy to get to but out of sight. Plug it in at night and put it on a timer to kick on about an hour before you normally leave the house or leave it plugged in over night. It helps BIG TIME when the temp drops. Where I live here in Alaska we see about -30F to -40 F ( -40F is about the same as -40C to give you a sense how cold that is) and often times just plugging in your block heater can make a huge difference on vehicles starting.
- 27°c (-16.6°f)?!! Wow! And it was a leading story and front page news here in New York when it was just around 12°f (-11.11°c). Dam, winters in Canada are no joke!
Yup! It was still about -20 I'd say in the Garage because it's not heated / and it's a bit older, but even opening the Garage door then the exhaust is s loud!
I definitely wouldn't do 24/7 recording with the dashcam on your main battery. My friend did that and after 3-4 months his battery was shot from all the discharging all the time. You can buy separate batteries for dashcams which charge quickly when driving and keep your main battery safe :-)
Atleast you have winter. The one week old snow is MIA since today. My car wants good winter roads..... I hope we get atleast one more good winter before I grow old and die. Last couple of winters have been shit here in the southern parts of Sweden. Time to move north maybe....? I dont' even like the heat. It gets too sweaty.
I live in North Dakota and it was a record low temperature of -58° Fahrenheit and that's not including wind chill, and my ford still powered through and started up
It's frequently been -20c here in middle murica ... but i remote start from inside. Get the coolant temp up, seat and steering warmers going... nissan for the win lol I did take blackvue off hardwire though... just unplug and plug back in before i start driving
If I have a coffee on my desk and I drink it all, and the cup is on my desk...so I take the coffee cup and throw it in the trash...is that a coffee cup delete? Or did I just take something off of the desk and get rid of it?
Nah, it's a delete if you cut a hole out the bottom of the cup and let the coffee all spill out everywhere. OR; we can go a step down the chain here - If you make your coffee but don't use a coffee filter and run the water straight though - no filter - then you have a delete. Either way, same concept, hahaha...
my 4yr old battery on my truck had a little hic up the other week when it was -30 F all week. im surprised its even working ill probably have to replace it before the next winter
The wrxs love the cold dense air though, eh? I'm surprised you don't have a block heater or one of those OEM battery warmers. I thought about getting one but here in Ontario it's not quite that cold.
Its been down as low as 2-4 degrees here in Virginia. Car becomes harder to start. I too have an Anker jump battery pack just in case. I also have the Blackvue DR750 dash cam! And a 2018 WRX....loved the video. Snow /Winter tires rock! Greetings from Virginia!
Hey, i have a 2020 wrx…however-im new to the subie flow and was wondering how often i should start her up in the winter? Im in North Nevada and it gets in the low 10s up here.
Happy new year! I have to tell you First of all, I have two Subaru cars , 2. I live in Calgary by COP, 3. I have two NOCOs in my cars since two years, used twice funny is they all were used for helping others on my way. 4. When I heard “start normal recording”, I laughed as both my Subaru ( 18 outback 3.6R and 14 Forester XT) have blackvue since day one they were with us. Again happy new year! Be save and warm, see you on the road
If you had to repurchase the nameless exhaust would you stay with the 5.5 inch tips of go to 4 inch? Only asking because I am about to purchase and trying to figure out if the extra money is worth it for the 4 inch tips.
I have the same problem with my Audi TT lol even though it's not nearly as cold as where I live, my car will sometimes barely start 😂just subbed to your channel keep up the work bro! Much love from the states❤
I don't know if anyone commented on it, but 11.8 volts is fairly low for the battery to be sitting at. Did you see that voltage with the ignition on? You will see some drop from the ignition being on. but the voltage should be 12v- 12.5~. The cold would certainly make it worse but 11.8 v on some cars for sure wouldn't be enough to turn it over. I think if I remember correctly at that voltage the battery output is less then 50% of capacity. I would guess a new battery is in order, at least soon. Maybe consider an AMG or at best something more robust for CCA. Anyways take care, nice video and your car has a nice growl even in the cold!
Dude that's so awesome you can do manual at 15, I was only 17 when I bought my first manual and I just learned as I went!! Lots of practice and then it was no problem!! That's so awesome dude!!
get a block heater? oil pan heater? My 96 civic has no prob starting up at -27c even if I havent plugged it in. Many newer vehicles should come with one pre-installed, especially a subie sold in canada.
Another Subaru+Tim Horton's(McD & Starbucks just won't work for me)+Blackvue fan here from Vancouver BC! I kinda like how the muffler delete sound dude.
I had the Nordfrost 100 in my previous Impreza, it was nearly unstoppable! Now I am using a set of Hakka9, I think the NF100’s snow performance is a bit better than the Hakka9.
...Quite the opposite actually. The compensation tables in almost all tunes actually pull boost in cold weather due to increased air density, to ensure the amount of load & torque output is consistent in different climates.
Nice video- I live in a very similar climate and I've been very impressed with how my '09 Impreza has been starting (started with just one crank in -22 weather today). Subarus are amazing in the winter!
Sorry if this is an over asked question. But im looking into getting a WRX. I think the only thing I've been worried about is hearing all the people talking about how "you'll regret not getting an Sti" and maybe I've just been letting that get to me too much. Have you had any sort of buyers remorse? And if not why? Sorry if this is an over done question or you get asked this a lot. Just looking for advice.
I haven't, NO! I've owned a 1995 STI, and previously also a 2013 STI. Although I enjoyed the power of the STI very much, the NEW 2015+ WRX's actually FEEL faster to me due to the twin-scroll turbo which produces alot more low end torque. There's almost zero turbo lag. This means when you put your foot down you instantly feel it, even at only 1K RPMs. With the STI, you put your foot down and can count on your fingers in seconds how long until you reach 5K+ RPM's when you feel the turbo finally spool up and kick in. Don't get me wrong, the STI is technically faster by the numbers. But it's the new FA Engine which feels completely different to my previous EJ engines and I actually really like it. Much different car, but overall a really great car. Plus, it's a very stiff chassis (more similar to the STI's nowadays). So although the brakes, suspension, and transmission are technically "not as good" as the STI's, I can accept those with the price-point of what you get from the WRX vs the STI.
I get around 19mpg for my 2017 STI. That’s a mix of city and highway driving and I’m always on sport sharp. I might get better numbers if I drive on sport or intelligent mode. I spoke with a 2015 WRX owner and he put enkei rpf 1’s on his car and he said that he is getting around 4-5 better mpg since the wheels are so light! My brother has a 2017 WRX and absolutely loves it. He prefers his over my STI.
It depends on what you want. WRX = fun daily driver. STI = great track car. Ive had my wrx for over 2 years and havent had a bit of remorse. Buy what you want the car for tho, I bought my wrx knowing i wont be doing motorsports and its great for me and my family. Not trying to say anything bad about the STI of course. I would love an STI but do i regret not getting the STI? Not at all.
Get a sti. I was looking at wrxs and someone else was looking at the one at the dealership that I wanted and I knew there was a sti and decided to go with that and I'm so extremely happy I did. You just can't beat the sti rumble it's such an amazing sound. You just don't get that in the wrx as much. Plus throw an aftermarket exhaust on and ommmmggggg (I have a tomei expreme) never want to not drive my baby.
It seems like it started pretty good to me. I sold my 2015 WRX before I never got that cold here. It's going to be -21 degrees C here tomorrow. I think I might actually just make a video too for my old ass diesel truck LOL it's going to be rough start for sure. I don't actually make TH-cam videos normally
Damn! Well, it's finally warmed up slightly now, and no more troubles thankfully yet! I've been driving more now with Christmas over though so the battery is staying charged up now.
Is there a heavy fuel smell when you start cold? I've been reading that in addition to the low cc battery, the fuel lines are sub-par and harden up in cold temps, giving a heavy fuel smell at start up.
Im new here and know nothing about suburas but why not just stick a better battery in the car if it doesnt fit up front but it in the trunk boom no starting problems. Our just a second battery in the trunk
I'm really surprised that in your area the dealerships don't have block heaters installed on all their inventory, well at least if it's a new vehicle. Down here it doesn't get as cold as you but man block heaters are awesome, car starts right up all the time no issue and heat actually starts blowing much sooner as well.
They do actually and I have the block heater! But, I don't use it in the Garage, it's still so cold though hahah. When I park outside/ overnight etc. I do have a block heater in.
I live in Minnesota and I cringe so hard when I start my car in anything colder than -25 C.. The clutch pedal and gearbox feel so slow and I feel so bad for shifting when the transmission feel like molasses! Did you have a block heater plugged in when you started up your car?
Oh man, so very cold right! I know the feeling haha. It's always very slow and feels very stiff at first when driving/ warming up! I do have a block heater actually, but I don't use it much when I park indoors, because it never really has much issue! I do use it when I park outside, though!! This -30*C was pretty quick and unexpected here around the Holidays though which is why I think my battery died - I didn't drive the car for a few days.
These Calgary cold snaps are brutal... Just bought s 2011 Sti which is also basically straight piped and my garage rumbles with the cold starts :S After like 5 seconds I just blip the throttle and the rpms drop. The really crazy drone from the cold start goes away. Still trying to not upset the neighbors! haha
Too cold bro :( I'm actually moving soon and worried about neighbors, hopefully they won't be bothered too much by the exhaust in the cold though.. But hey, I should say it's okay it's cold. I hear there are Scorpions down in the warmer areas hahaha!
Skipped through the vid. I'm guessing your's doesn't have a block heater either? If so, how long do you usually wait till you drive the car? Till the car measures the oil temp at least?
I have a block heater but I also park in a heated garage overnight now so I usually drive right away without waiting. I'd usually idle for 3 to 5 minutes on cold days. I'm a believer of the driving the car slowly will help it warm up more effectively and evenly, faster, rather than idling for 20 mins. to "warm up". It's an FA engine not an EJ.
+45C where I am in Australia on the wknd 😳😳😳...God dam that must be cold haha! Minus 4 is like the coldest I have ever been in and I thought that was cold lol
@NinjaxBart, I'm getting a WRX soon, and I was wondering, in extreme cold like this does the car struggle to get moving if you don't let it warm enough?
Oh no! Not at all, not even in this -30C weather haha! I generally let my car warm up in the Garage for a few minutes (4 - 5 mins) and then I just take it slow and easy for the first little bit. After driving about 5 minutes the car starts to get warmed up fairly quickly, and is usually just moving the temp. by the time I'm at the highway!! So nope! No problems and it's an AWD beast in the snow ofcourse!!!
Fullthrottle Auto I wish I lived in a place like that haha I'm a bit north of NinjaxBart and we went from -37 to 1 °C in 12 hours, talk about a slush fest
It is not so EXTREMELY cold. Here in Siberia region we often have -45, -50 and very strong wind every winter. In these conditions i do not start my STI, i just take taxi and go to work. -27c we got in March)
Gaming Made Simple 0 degrees C is 32 degrees farenheit lol, Farenheit and celsius are almost the same when its in the negatives, -40 C is -40F. * -30 C is like -22 F.
Its -42 in Regina Saskatchewan right now. Been this cold all week. Car didnt like it too much last night lol. warmest the oil temp gets is 76 and engine temp slightly above the second white line lol.
Logged onto my channel for the first time in a while and saw you left a comment on one of my videos saying you came from the shanksquad and that you subbed, It''s a bit delayed but i've subbed back, Nice channel!
Hey, I noticed ur cold start has a bit black smoke comes out and turn to normal smoke. I have same thing happened on my 2020 WRX.I wonder is that normal?
plumes of black smoke is bad, but if you have a little just a little, it could just mean it's running a little rich. Pretty normal on a very cold winter start. If the smoke is BLUE though then you have problems (coolant leak / burning etc.)
I street park and thursday was -27, felt like -39 in Toronto, didnt have a problem starting, but the transmission fluid felt like molasses for a part of the drive.
I put a 950 CCA in my old modified Accord. Never had one issue with that battery lol. Even sat for 3 months once and started right up. Though it took some rigging to fit and secure lol
JesusFriedChrist last week we were at about 9F highs and -2F lows. Windchills were -20. And I drive and rx8 with original engine and all original seals at 80k miles lol
JesusFriedChrist definitely not with my car. The rx8 is known for hating cold weather.. especially when it has higher milage seals. Routine 90k miles is a full seal replacement and I'm close to it. She don't like starting up. Sucks cranking and praying it starts each time. Though mine is better than a lot of them I have seen starting in cold weather so guess I shouldn't complain too much haha
Stock battery is straight trash. I believe it's actually 390CCA, not 330CCA like you said. I have a 2015, battery has died twice the past month due to the cold weather. Took it into the dealership and they gave me a new one under warranty. The new battery is now 550CCA...guess Subaru realized the old ones were trash and gave us a beefier one. We'll see how long this one lasts. I've owned my car for about 2 years and 8 months with 24k miles and the battery is shot already. >.>
Subies are born for snow.
Love cold starts on really cold days. They make my fusion sound like it has a big boy engine
Dude thats awesome haha!

Thanks for the support on my video!🙏❤️ I’ve always enjoyed watching yours !
Best believe there are still kids out there going to Tim Hortons in shorts and sandals ordering ice caps. 👌
That's me but not a kiddo
this is awesome how this video blew up! i hope it keeps blowing up!!!
Is he sponsored by damn baby racing?
starts faster than a 2002 wrx in australian summer lmao
Hahaha omg!

Dam, winters in Canada are no joke!
Hahha too cold bro too cold!!!
Eyyy a Calgarian TH-camr finally someone from my city
Hey man, yup I'm in YYC!! Thx for the comment and for watching, stay warm eh!
The last few snowfalls have been pretty fun ;)
Oh yea dude!!!
this is what you call a cold start. very cold
Nice WRX, if its -30 outside usually your garage will be half that temp give and take. So i will say it was roughly around -15/-17 in the garage tops.
Yup! It was still about -20 I'd say in the Garage because it's not heated / and it's a bit older, but even opening the Garage door then the exhaust is s loud!
I was going to mention the same thing, it’s amazing how much of a difference even a non heated garage makes.
I definitely wouldn't do 24/7 recording with the dashcam on your main battery. My friend did that and after 3-4 months his battery was shot from all the discharging all the time. You can buy separate batteries for dashcams which charge quickly when driving and keep your main battery safe :-)
Just got my battery replaced under warranty. Nice video!
I had the issue with the battery not starting on my 2016 WRX in fact! And my warranty covered a bigger and better battery and all labor!
Atleast you have winter. The one week old snow is MIA since today. My car wants good winter roads..... I hope we get atleast one more good winter before I grow old and die. Haha damn nice dude!!! Yup, so cold! But good your Ford started up. AWD?? Fun in the snow?
NinjaxBart he'll yeah it rips through the ice
It's frequently been -20c here in middle murica ... but i remote start from inside. Get the coolant temp up, seat and steering warmers going... nissan for the win lol
I did take blackvue off hardwire though... just unplug and plug back in before i start driving
The force awaken when the car start
Costco battery FTW. Never had issues cold starting in my 09 2.5i. Even when it was so frigging cold that -40 wind chill week was nuts.
Gonna have to check into it!!
If I have a coffee on my desk and I drink it all, and the cup is on my desk...so I take the coffee cup and throw it in the trash...is that a coffee cup delete? Or did I just take something off of the desk and get rid of it?

Sweet, Country Hills Timmy!
Happy New Year! Just survived the "Bomb Cyclone" they are calling it here in MA. Thanks the AWD! Cheers, keep up the great vids!
Dude, nice!!! Haha! I wish we got that snowstorm here kind of, it's just bitter cold here but the snow stopped back at Christmas :(
This video making a come back! Haha
Shit is it really? oh god hahaha

Sound good
what app is the weather?
It was -35 here in Manitoba without the wind-chill. My Fiat is definitely unhappy waking up in this weather
*Exhaust @ **1:50* *If you enjoyed this video, I have so many other videos which I've put alot of effort into that you might also like!*
NinjaxBart 😎 that’s love
One of the few great things about the cold that we get to enjoy!
NinjaxBart are you still running stage 1 etune? With just AP and Nameless Axle back?
Yup!!
NinjaxBart thanks for the reply. Is it safe running etune on your opinion? Just AP and cbe

I am from croatia and I am 15 i know how to drive manual you motivated me to follow my dream about cars thanks✌
Dude that's so awesome you can do manual at 15, I was only 17 when I bought my first manual and I just learned as I went!! Lots of practice and then it was no problem!! That's so awesome dude!!
NinjaxBart thanks you are so motivational

NinjaxBart i'm from country next to him, here on Balkan automatic is pretty rare, I learned to drive manual when i was 13-14

I live in alberta too and yes, we were actually colder than north pole last week😑
That cold start sounded sweet!
Thanks bro! Is that your GD Subie in your pic? Looks nice! Snow!?!
Yeah, that's my ex hawkeye in the picture. It got rear ended though ;( Sold it and got a blobeye instead.
You have a ninja bike? I have a 2014 ninja 650 and a 2016 WRX (manual but push button start)
Boost weather?
That's the one good thing haha, the Subie likes this colder temps!! But, the car's just so cold and feels so stiff haha.. Still so fun! :D
I think my stock tune limit max boost to 15psi when it's below freezing.
...Quite the opposite actually. The compensation tables in almost all tunes actually pull boost in cold weather due to increased air density, to ensure the amount of load & torque output is consistent in different climates.
My car runs like shit when it's below 10 degrees (probably need to be re-tuned)
What Eric said. The "boost weather" temps are around 5C to 10C
Your car looks so sweet!
Nice video- I live in a very similar climate and I've been very impressed with how my '09 Impreza has been starting (started with just one crank in -22 weather today). Subarus are amazing in the winter!
Stay warm bro!! Subie's are amazing in this weather eh!!
It looks so nice there man 😎, -27 that’s pretty nippy lol!!, I’m sure you can hit boost very well in that cold weather 😂👍 great video bro :)
I live in Death Valley in California I wish it could be cold over here it’s 109 degrees rn
Hahaha true eh it's either too cold or too hot like where's the middle? Utah... we need to move to Utah lmfaooo

Damn! Well, it's finally warmed up slightly now, and no more troubles thankfully yet! I've been driving more now with Christmas over though so the battery is staying charged up now.
It is too cold out there!!!
Way too cold :(
Nice G
Are you using 0W oil??
Winters in Canada are NO JOKE!!
It's -37degrees with a wind chill of -47 in the past days here in grande prairie. My car needs to warm up atleast 10minutes.
Nice cold start :) here in quebec it's -28 and -38celcius feel haha I hope the extreme cold stop soon ;)
raph roy last 2 week was horrible, i live in gatineau

What helps with my wrx is putting it in rice with a little bit of oil, heat that up in a bag and place it on the battery overnight. BOOM starts up.
Love my RB's but there's always gonna be a soft spot for some boxer rumble.
That was such a cold week.. now its all -2 and up.. Really hate the temp change's
I haven't tried the Gislaved but really enjoy my Nokian Hakka 8
I’m gonna start doing videos like this and vlogging with my truck keep it up video was great!
Dude, do it up! Shoot me a message when you post up some videos and let me know!!
damn so cold! I'm over here in Texas and already feel like it's freezing! Can't imagine how cold it is over there
Hahaha bro it's probably like a nice day at the beach kinda weather there compared to here!!! :p But I heard there's some snow??
NinjaxBart I’m sure in north Texas there is snow, but here in the south part of Texas it’s just cold :b .
Yea we had 2 snow days in Austin this year which is a record since that never happened in the past 30 years!
Haha yea it's 26F or -3C today and pretty cold but nothing compared to what you guys are experiencing!
Wait wait wait. I'm confused. Is this a cold start or not? Not sure if you mentioned it??
i dont know much about the cca rating but can you just throw like a 650cca battery?
Yup! That's what I'm going to have to do, very easy just swap out for a more powerful battery!
Thanks for the reply! I'm so excited for mine! My Impreza currently really struggles to get moving when it's this cold
blazeedge93 may I ask what year is your Impreza?
It's a 2015 with the 2.0L NA engine
Nameless exhaust-music to my ears. Can you tell me the name of the entry song of your video, thanks.
Hey man sorry I forget the song it was so long ago, but thank you!! I love the Nameless!
Jeez.... What is your heating bill like? Mine is almost 80 bucks and I live in Georgia.
Great video. Love the sound of the car with that exhaust. Talk about cold. The lowest so far its been here in Illinois is -21C and that's at night.
Thanks bro!!
Fullthrottle Auto I wish I lived in a place like that haha I'm a bit north of NinjaxBart and we went from -37 to 1 °C in 12 hours, talk about a slush fest
Fullthrottle Auto lol man I'm gonna move over there and I live in cali is never even close to the extreme
That's wrong. The coldest was pontiac at -40.
Happy new year dude
Thanks dude! Happy New Year!
It is not so EXTREMELY cold. Here in Siberia region we often have -45, -50 and very strong wind every winter. In these conditions i do not start my STI, i just take taxi and go to work. -27c we got in March)
Fired up like a champ!
Thankfully it did this time hahha I was actually expecting it not to...
Goodness -30?! I’m experiencing my first negative temperatures here in Kansas only in the single digits though. Awesome video!
omg damn haha, stay warm eh!! Subie's don't mind the cold TOO much though, it's good boost weather if anything atleast!!!
NinjaxBart yep, no heatsoak problems right? Lol here in Canada -30 to -40 is normal.
Kurtage77 might want to notice that's C he's in ours is F. They hit 0 at our 32. Not sure the math exactly but 0 F is something like -20C
Gaming Made Simple 0 degrees C is 32 degrees farenheit lol,
Farenheit and celsius are almost the same when its in the negatives, -40 C is -40F.
* -30 C is like -22 F.
PR1NCETD0T I said 0F is like -20C
Love your 2k16 WRX man
Thanks so much dude!
Its -42 in Regina Saskatchewan right now. Been this cold all week. Car didnt like it too much last night lol. warmest the oil temp gets is 76 and engine temp slightly above the second white line lol.
omggggggg that's cold dude, stay warm haha
Will do man. And happy new years to you
sick.. you were cruzin where i live... i got a sti aswell... but shes parked for the winter :)
Lucky, I wish it snowed in California, Subrina (my 2016 WRX) is sad
happy new years brother
Happy New Year!
Logged onto my channel for the first time in a while and saw you left a comment on one of my videos saying you came from the shanksquad and that you subbed, It''s a bit delayed but i've subbed back, Nice channel!
Haha sup dude! Thanks! :)
Wish we had some snow like that.
HNY man!
Happy New Year dude!
17 Wrx
Haha nice! It says feels like -38 here now tonight :( So cold..
NinjaxBart it's ridiculous they've cancelled new years eve in downtown Toronto
They actually just announced to have cancelled here this year too
Sounds amazing!
Thanks dude :)
you should get some grimmspeed exhaust hangers and bring those pipes up a bit
330 CCAs??? That's insane. My 2012 Elantra has a 650 CCA battery.
It's for weight saving.
And also fuel economy because your car can't start !
I put a 950 CCA in my old modified Accord. Never had one issue with that battery lol. Even sat for 3 months once and started right up. Though it took some rigging to fit and secure lol
Congratulations on having the coldest start for a wrx on TH-cam 😂 Happy New Year buddy✌ @spooling14
Hahaha it got even colder actually at night, hit -40!!!
I can feel the cold air through my computer screen
Went to Canada recently, LOVE Tim Hortons! :)
That’s a very nice car! -31 yeah I can’t do that anymore lol
Nice sound!
p.s.: Objects are not affected by the wind factor (feel like).
You live in CGY and don't have a block heater? Fooo every motel I've seen in AB has outlets for plug ins. Always get the biggest battery you can!!!
I have a block heater, yes, but I also park in a indoor garage 24/7 lol
Yea, its only gotten to like 31 degree's F and I think thats cold haha!
Bro I'd be wearing shorts hahahaha
JesusFriedChrist last week we were at about 9F highs and -2F lows. Windchills were -20. And I drive and rx8 with original engine and all original seals at 80k miles lol
JesusFriedChrist definitely not with my car. The rx8 is known for hating cold weather.. especially when it has higher milage seals. Routine 90k miles is a full seal replacement and I'm close to it. She don't like starting up. Sucks cranking and praying it starts each time. Though mine is better than a lot of them I have seen starting in cold weather so guess I shouldn't complain too much haha
Have you tried using a hot-hairdryer/heat gun to blow some hot air into the intake while cranking?.
Also, is your oil thin enough for low temps?
I live in Siberia. For my Nissan 350z - it's 3 months a year the same launch
I've owned my car for about 2 years and 8 months with 24k miles and the battery is shot already. >.>
