    I guess I agree with everything beside the rod wt. A 5 wt works amazing for heavy weed cover (hopper dropper technique) and gives a little more backbone for bull bluegills up to 1-1/2 lbs.

      I use a 5 wt as well but that’s more because of my budget constrains. I can’t have a 6wt and a 3 wt so I went with a 5wt. I also don’t fish for tiny bluegill as so a heavier rod seems to work well for the larger (8+ inch fish)

      I’ve never caught a bluegill and thought my rod needed more backbone after. Usually it’s more like I wish I’d caught it on something that could have bent a little more

    My fav fly is the foamies with rubber legs. Mainly the spiders. Another is mosquito or bee.

    I once snagged a coot with a tiny popper similar to those. Hooked it through its webbed foot. Something the size of a small duck that’s trying to bite you is difficult to land and unhook.

    3wt. is most definitely the right rod. All of these people talking about 5’s being perfect probably haven’t fished a 3.

    Just found your channel. Good job sir. Yes, on doing some tying vids.
    May I preempt what you might say about tying kits?....that is..dont buy them. With the plethora of fly tying videos and instruction, just punch in your questions about equip and materials. A good vise can be the starting point. From there, find basic patterns and materials will fall into place. Kits are generally garbage. You have plenty of instructors on YT!

    I recomend, you posting the name of each fly along side of your # 1,2,3, ect. It was alittle bit hard to understand the vocal audio. But Thanks for the video.

    What I love to do is tie a size 6 Chernobyl ant on top and a size 14 prince nymph on the dropper. They can’t resist the prince.

    Like the fly recommends but disagree on the rod wt selection. The all around 5wt is fine for gills…unless you want to feel like you have a bass on the line.
    Make my own leaders and go from 0x at 5.5 feet, 2x for 2 feet , 5x for 1.5 feet, then tippet of 6x for 2 feet.

    I’ve had good luck with a gray, copper or black flying ants behind a popper or diver. For bluegill and crappie.

    Can you Tenkara Fly fish with poppers Sir I'm just getting into this style of fishing

    • @GuideRecommended
      @GuideRecommended  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With poppers the action comes from stripping the line in. I guest you could do that by twitching the line with a Tenkara rod. I love using Tenkara to fly fish small mountain streams.

    You need to get into fly tying starting with the basics and then progressing to simple flies. Should you decide to be sure to list materials and their subsystems please.

      For sure. When the bluegill are aggressive on top water bites, I feel like you can throw just about anything out there and they smack it
