Tina understands that there must always be a rhythmic centre. And she's one of the best. Which is amazing whfn you remember she wasn't a player till she was 'recruited.' ('Look we need a bass player. You do it ') She's like Pete Townshend, a metronome. And that Hofner semi-acoustic - about as unfashionable as you could get in 1980- was perfect. Sometimes things just work out

Fab. Saw these guys perform in their early days - 1978/9 - in Queens Hall, Leicester Uni, where I was an undergrad. Dire Straits were supporting. There were literally 4 or 5 people standing up against the stage and 3 of us sitting in the balcony. It was a superb night despite the emptiness. So privileged to have experienced that 😄

Zappa, Talking Heads, King Crimson... Bellew's one of the few musicians that's versatile enough to not only PERFORM with these people, but to ENHANCE their music!
Talking Heads are unique. Most bands cut a song and then live performances almost sound as good as the studio cut. The Heads are different. When they do a studio cut, it sounds good but then when they play it live, years later, it is so much better.
I think the great Voodoo chile himself would have been proud of that feedback play. Lead singer has a great voice too, and the bassist and drummer really held it all and made it rock. I never knew much about Talking Heads but this told me a lot!
I'm glad TH-cam wasn't around in 1980. I would have spent all of my time watching awesome videos like this and wouldn't have put down the bong long enough to go get a job.

Everybody was dancing the whole time. they even did some Tom Tom club music also. At some point, David Byrne introduced the band and of course Tina Weymouth got the biggest hand.

@Daniel Olofsson He played in David Bowie's Isolar II tour in 1978 and in his Sound and Vision tour in 1990. The lead guitarist in the Serious Moonlight tour was Earl Slick which is amazing too.
I saw the Talking Heads in 1979 at the Starlight Ballroom in Los Angeles. No seats, just a big wood floor with the stage in the corner, about 1 foot higher than us fans. The promoters were playing the B52s first album in it's entirety and everyone was ecstatic and dancing like madmen. I remember predicting to my friends that the Heads were gonna be big some day. It was a great night!

Tina Weymuth wrote one of the biggest songs ever for the Talking Heads, David Byrne wouldnt let Her sing it! She was pissed! Then eventually she and Chris Frantz left The Talking Heads, and Formed their own Band , the Tom Tom Club!!
I saw the No talking, just head tour. All members but David Byrne, and they had Jeanette Napolitano from Concrete Blonde front for them. They played a dinky old porn theater on Colfax Ave. in Denver, called the Bluebird theater. I was like 6 feet from the stage. One of the best shows I ever saw. Just amazing.

David may have stopped her singing some some( what song was it?). he was pretty controlling apparently according to them. they thought about leaving the band after the 2nd or 3rd album. but didnt. . But they formed Tom Tom Club early 80's (after Remain in Light album i think), and played in that while still in Talking Heads. It was a side project. even Jerry did a solo album in the 80's while still in the band. David grew tired of the band, thought he was the star performer/songwriter etc. he claimed credit for many songs, even jam sessions where they all contributed to the music. that also caused tension. and he eventually left the band and went solo. and NEVER wanted to reform it. and left the others in the lurch so to speak. they apparently despised him b/c of it, just dumping them never to reform, not for them or the fans. too bad. he even sued them for their reprise band: 'No Talking Just Head'... and won. that put a stop to that. they felt David was too controlling, he felt he was better than them songwriting wise, and went solo. i think he had a point,. he is still live and potent. the others have nothing bandwise !
