      St. Augustine on time,
“This time is longer than that,” or, more precisely, “This is twice as long as that.” I know that I am measuring time. But I am not measuring the future, for it is not yet; and I am not measuring the present because it is extended by no length; and I am not measuring the past because it no longer is. What is it, therefore, that I am measuring? Is it time in its passage, but not time past?”

Stay strong, sending you prayers, positive vibes, and hope that it really will be alright, for you very soon, for all of us. When feeling low, remember ultimately, it’s about that climb~put on a playlist, and dance while sing your heart out💃Good luck to you.

All of us were doing that. It was our hobby back then...at least mine. Was sooo much fun!
Glad for owning a HI-FI system in my teenage years back then....which i still have, also all those tapes. Here in Germany we had music chartshows, where the songs were fully played, even many extended ones. But always used the fade function anyway.

Sony got filthy rich enabling music piracy. Those Walkmans and recorders and blank tapes galore, and tape-to-tape duplicating machines so you could pass tapes to all your friends. Everybody was doing it. With those profits they bought the privilege to sue pirates in court for putting Beatles on a mix tape. Wagging their fingers because copying music is a crime. Give a break. They are a BRILLIANT band. David Byrne is a literally genius who has gifted the world with his own quirky and unusual sense of humor, intelligence, wit, political awareness, concern about the World In General. They are really amazing and David himself is my favorite of course...but I never have had an opportunity to see The Heads or even David Byrne's solo concert live. I would love to see either, but just being with the kind of crowd that would come...in legion...to see The Talking Heads play just one reunion world tour for all the fans, would be a life-altering experience. SO many great bands I love and have never seen live: The Cure, Depeche Mode (MAYBE saw them one time, I have a faint memory), New Order, The Smiths, REM, The B-52's, Sting & Or The Police, The Rolling Stones, (can't afford the damn $500 tickets!), Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Doors, Jimi, Janis, Nirvana, only got to see U2 ONCE in concert and the audio was fucked up so Bono sounded like he was sucking helium all night. The Talking Heads...like The Violent Femmes, Sublime, (saw Garbage play with No Doubt once...GREAT show!
There would be a million YOUNG people. That's how great this band is. Even teenagers would be there. This music is timeless.

Amira F I love this Talking Heads’ video. But, let me tell you about the song and this video. "Road to Nowhere" is a rock song written by David Byrne for Talking Heads’ 6th studio album "Little Creatures" (1985). It also appeared on "The Best of Talking Heads" (2004), "Sand in the Vaseline: Popular Favorites" (1992), the "Once in a Lifetime" (2003) box set and the Brick box set. The song was released as the 2nd single in September 1985 and reached number 25 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and number 6 in the British, German and South African singles charts. It also made No. 8 on the Dutch Top 40.
«I wanted to write a song that presented a resigned, even joyful look at doom,» recalls David Byrne in the liner notes of "Once in a Lifetime: The Best of Talking Heads" (1992). «At our deaths and at the apocalypse... (always looming, folks). I think it succeeded. The front bit, the white gospel choir, is kind of tacked on, 'cause I don’t think the rest of the song was enough... I mean, it was only two chords. So, out of embarrassment, or shame, I wrote an intro section that had a couple more in it.»
The video for the song was directed by David Byrne and Stephen R. Johnson and featured the band and various objects revolving, as if in their own "road to nowhere". It was nominated for "Best Video of the Year" at the MTV Video Music Awards 1986 (lost to Dire Straits for "Money for Nothing"), Best Concept Video (lost to a-ha for "Take On Me"), and Viewer’s Choice (lost to a-ha for "Take On Me"). Some parts were shot in the back yard and pool of actor Stephen Tobolowsky, who was co-writing David Byrne’s film "True Stories" (1986) at the time. Director Stephen R. Johnson reused some of the effects techniques in award-winning videos for Peter Gabriel the following year: "Sledgehammer" and "Big Time".
      David Byrne - guitar, vocals
      Chris Frantz - drums
Jerry Harrison - keyboards, guitar, backing vocals
Tina Weymouth - bass guitar, backing vocals
      Additional musicians:
      Andrew Cader - washboard
      Erin Dickens - backing vocals
      Diva Gray - backing vocals
      Gordon Grody - backing vocals
      Lani Groves - backing vocals
      Jimmy Macdonell - accordion
      Lenny Pickett - saxophones
      Steve Scales - percussion
      Kurt Yahijian - backing vocals
The genres are pop rock and new wave.

Found myself at a point in life, having just gone through two years of financial struggle with a lack of any secure employment in the area and a lot of bad luck - In a relationship that was maybe functional for 2 years before becoming not so much dead but more undead for the other 3. Didn't have a car because of all of that, which further increased the difficulty of keeping up with adulthood. Started applying for jobs in a town that's an hour away because I had nothing to lose and my own city was totally dried up. Ended up somehow getting hired in a very cushy job in education, for which I have no background or qualifications beyond technical skills that are kinda rare for professionals working at a highschool and lower level. The workplace is very flexible and gave me plenty of room to figure out how to be working there from out of town, which involved a 2 hour bus commute both ways. Suddenly, I had smoldering garbage behind me, and a genuinely good salary with ample paid time off and full benefits ahead of me - All the while, the person who I was as a result of my experiences seemed undeserving and clueless of what to actually do with it. It was incredible fortune that dropped in my lap when I was barely trying after years of constant effort had left me emotionally exhausted and in debt.
It was at this point that the Talking Heads became the soundtrack to my inner most feelings about life

This is my favorite Talking Heads song. To remember the eighties when I was in college makes it all the more piquant of their songs today.

David Byrne's quavering voice at low-pitch and high-pitch ctually highlight the chilling undertones to this song - albeit in a clever, subtle way. What's chilling about the song - in my opinion - is that one can spend a really, really long time going around in circles when trying to achieve their goals and, as a result, pave a "road to nowhere" in their life, being blissfully unaware at the time but having big regrets much later in life and wishing they could "turn back the clock" and start over again. What's even more chilling is the question of whether they would manage to not go around in circles again if they could turn back the clock and start over (e.g. being so obsessed about not repeating the same mistakes again that they actually quite unwittingly make themselves go around in circles all over again!), which could create a recursive cycle of going around in circles (a circle within a circle within another circle etc.)! 😜

I think the low pitched, raspy voice (e.g. at 2:53 ) is of drummer Chris Frantz.

One of the first records I ever bought. Still have the 7 inch single from 1985. Wanted to become a pop video director in my teens largely as a result of this video and Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer. Watch out for the animation of the running man drawn in peanut butter on a slice of bread at 3:20. Pure genius!

Well, we know where we're goin'
But we don't know where we've been
And we know what we're knowin'
But we can't say what we've seen
    And we're not little children
And we know what we want
    And the future is certain
Give us time to work it out
We're on a road to nowhere
    Come on inside
    Takin' that ride to nowhere
    We'll take that ride
    I'm feelin' okay this mornin'
    And you know
We're on a road to paradise
Here we go, here we go
We're on a ride to nowhere
    Come on inside
    Takin' that ride to nowhere
    We'll take that ride
Maybe you wonder where you are
    I don't care
Here is where time is on our side
Take you there, take you there
We're on a road to nowhere
We're on a road to nowhere
We're on a road to nowhere
There's a city in my mind
Come along and take that ride
And it's all right, baby it's all right
    And it's very far away
But it's growing day by day
And it's all right, baby it's all right

I never knew who the talking heads were when I was a kid. I loved little monsters and I fell in love with this song. Here I am so many years later. I am so thankful they were associated with that movie. I can't explain how visceral it is when they come on the radio.

I was backstage with the Talking Heads in 1977 with my HS sweetheart at the Punch and Judy Movie Theater of all places!!!!! in Gross Pointe, Michigan. They played 2 shows that night and I was at the 2nd. I was 16 yrs old! I was out of pot too, but had rolling papers! Chris Frantz pulled an OZ out of his pocket, tossed it to me and said "Start Rollin! "🤣 We had an blast too, just chatting/laughing etc. They invited us to come along to Greektown (downtown Detroit) for late night food, but we reluctantly declined. I'm now 62!
