Might be worth making an exception for some though, Aptonoth might deserve one for being iconic, and Larinoth does because it's genuinely surprisingly deep for a small monster... we'll see.

I think for a design fix that stays true to the original, I think Iodrome should be more black than it's smaller Ioprey. Like certain animals get a different color, depending of their age, testosterone level or even social standing. Dominant male Gorillas become silverbacks and many dominant lions get darker manes. So it would make sense for the dromes as well
@@indomleon maybe more black on the body with some red highlights. Then way more red on the head with the purple crest. This way it can stand out as the truly dominant male. It's brighter head with stunning colors would be used to show off It's attractiveness to females as well as using it to compare to other Iodrome. And thats just the first, simple redesign. Later gen dromes and similar monsters like Grrat Jaggi, Great Maccao or Great Jagras have way more differences, compared to the younger ones. Jaggi is especially cool, since you can see a clear difference between the dominant male and the smaller, younger ones and the females. For Giadrome I think it could use some feathers, maybe even full body. It's a slim creature that lives in cold areas, so it needs atleast something. It's basicly just a reskin of Velocidrome that can spit ice, so even just some feathers would make a difference.
These videos are awesome, seeing your takes on these monsters is so inspiring. Big fan of the second design in particular, that massive hood is super cool. 🙏🙏🙏

9:24 I will say that if I have to critique something here it’s the feet, mainly that from a game design standpoint the killing apparatus should be the most striking part of a monster especially since they are fairly small here, with how the rest of the monster is already pretty colorful the only thing I could really think of is giving it some kind of luminosity, maybe some kind of bacteria live in the venom sac and their waste product amplifies the venom?
That's a fair point, kind of an oversight tbh. What I probably should have done was give it okapi stripes on the legs. Live and learn IG. Though I could at least argue that maybe the player would be able to gather that they should still watch the feet because of its similarity to the Velocidrome they just fought

My absolute favorite monsters are bird wyverns and low rank fanged beasts like Great Jagras and Great Girros, these underdogs of the ecosystems of Monster Hunter are really grounded, appealing and relatable to me for this very reason.
the best way i would fix Gendrome is simple really, you take it and fully swap it with Girros, the better Paralysis monster in every single way in a less jokey way, i would make the fangs retrace like a snakes, that simple change would make me like him more . a simple change, and yet it fixes the monster in such a satisfying way, i love it . making him more of a beef cake rather than a scrawny ratty thing is a neat touch, i like the rattle and its use, i like the idea of them communicating with it during hunts . OH WOW, looks insane, the quills being very defensive is a cool idea for a paralyzing venom, the Anole design elements are awesome too, amazed MH hasn't used Anoles more

You mention kulu ya ku and gave me an idea for wilds This punishes specifically people that are just to close to the monster with their seikret. It steals your 2nd weapon with an specific attack while riding. Idk if it can use your weapon probably not but its fun to think about a kulu ya ku using your wywernheart uncontrollably
A suggestion for flying wyverns, give them Tigrex-esque frame. This will both further distinguish them from bird wyverns & add make them slightly more realistic as the largest creatures to fly were pterosaurs, who were quadrapeds.

Gendrome takes the cake for best number 1 redesign thus far. I'm leaning toward Basarios having the best second form but feel free to prove me and everyone else wrong with future updates to your collection. :] Speaking of your collection, would you consider releasing an artbook with your "Hunter's Guide" pages? Maybe with just second and third forms to avoid Capcom breathing down your neck.

Another great video! But I'm not gonna let that little Frontier comment slide. Plenty of early Frontier monsters are not only very creative, but fit just fine into mainline MH. Especially as time has gone on and mainline itself has done more extreme, out-there designs. People hyper-focused on the super-wacky end-game Elders and Zeniths, when those are just a small fraction of the roster. It'd be like saying all of Worldborne is insane and out there because of Xeno Jiiva or Shara Ishvalda. (Note that this isn't super serious, I just gotta say my piece whenever Frontier comes up as I think it's really misunderstood by a lot of the fandom who hasn't actually played it.)

Something like Magnamalo I see as a result of trying to replicate Zinogre, while also going very extra in the opposite direction of World in case it failed. With the inclusion of Espinas in Sunbreak being pretty universally enjoyed, and the focus on just outright weirdos with Wilds, I think they'd know when and who to choose to bring over. Gogomoa or the Orugarons feel like they're BUILT to take advantage of a lot of what has been shown for Wilds, as well as Barlagual like you said.
@@sharplosion1 yeah, Espinas was absolutely done excellently, and it was a big step for me in understanding that Frontier isn't just a trash heap, some of the good ones are just old and ugly because of it. Espinas genuinely jumped straight into my top 10 monsters, even top 5 most days. I will still maintain that I'm VERY nervous about any other ones, even the ones you mentioned, all of which I agree would be good inclusions. Because I sure wouldn't want to be the guy who draws that line as to who is allowed and who is not, especially when you can point at Magnamalo or Arkveld or even Rajang honestly for why pretty much anybody could appear. I think my totally out-of-YT-persona take is that anybody could totally come back, but I would want to see most of them drastically reworked/redesigned, and I think for a lot of fans that would be disappointing, they wouldn't even feel like the same monsters anymore. I don't know much Frontier monster lore, but I would assume they have the same problem that mainline monsters I detest do, where they have good ideas that I really like, but the execution didn't stick the landing, and we just got something that belongs in Final Fantasy instead. I think as I've been typing this comment I've just been slowly convincing myself I want to do Frontier Monster Mender...
@@indomleon It's funny that you mention Arkveld, cause when I saw it, me and many others immediately noticed it's odd chain-like appendages growing from the wings bear a striking resemblance to what most classify as 'Whip Wyverns' from Frontier. You could honestly make the case the Arkveld is even crazier than most of them, as their 'whips' are much thinner and more believable for flight than just how thick Arkveld's 'whips' are. I also think Forokururu is another Frontier mon that would fit right in to mainline, and actually give us a high-tier Bird Wyvern that's completely unique even in just it's nectarivore diet, which also influences it's fight. In general I think a lot of people get the wrong idea about Frontier monsters because, like I said, they either focus on the ridiculous end-game monsters, or only judge them based on their renders. Actually seeing them in motion can really contextualize what they are, and some of them do have at least some simple lore to them. Like, Akura Vashimu is actually a prey species to Odibatorasu, or the fact that Hyujikiki is so spiky and has so many ailments because it's prey to Poborubaumu. Heck the turf war between Espinas and Kushala is based of lore of Espinas successfully driving Kushala out of the Great Forest. Plus just being really experimental with fights, like the entire thing of feeding Pariapuria the right types of meat to eventually make it super sluggish and easy and even barf up materials from other monsters, or the cactus keep-away game with Varusaburosu so that it enters a weakened state instead of a super-charged difficult one if you fail the keep away. (Granted of all the ones I mentioned Varusaburosu is the one I'd say is too much for mainline design-wise.) All in all, I think plenty of Frontier mons could work in mainline, they just need the visual overhaul and some ecology like Espinas got to polish off the fact that they were all built off the 2nd gen engine. Wilds really solidifies that for me with their designs. And hey, if you ever did make any videos on Frontier monsters, even more critical ones, I'd be there for them!

I usually feel like there's something missing or something I forgot, but I feel like I've learned the lessons from putting out stuff that wasn't up to my standard, and I can say that aside from the first one, this is the first one I've been almost completely satisfied with. I have had a lot of good converations with people after this one, gave me plans and ideas. Maybe its the perfect time to try something more experimental. Once I get caught back up with school, anyway

I think a good fix for Giadrome (without changing much) would be to mainly fix it's design. I think it should atleast have some feathers, since it lives in cold regions. Most of those Raptor Dromes have never been really impressive tbh

Problem is everyone agrees with that statement, and I want to try and do something that doesn't feel like I'm recycling other people's existing redesigns. I almost certainly will end up giving it feathers still, but I need to find something fresh within that. I might have some ideas, we'll see how they pan out
@@indomleon I think you could atleast add cool lore regarding those feathers. Like that, while it lives in cold areas, the would still be different seasons. So just like some birds like ducks, it could have different plumage according to the seasons. The spring/summer ones might be more colorful (you can decide which colors), while it's more white during the winter. For a creature that lives in cold areas, it would probably breed very early spring. Altough the problem with that would be, is that we wont see much or any of that during the gameplay. Even in Wilds, where we have some kind of seasons, it would still be weird if during a fight, Giadrome would suddenly lose it's feathers and grow new ones. I think one game atleast (maybe it was Dos) they added seasons that affected different things, like what and how many small monsters spawn. There this different plumage could find it's use. There is kind of a similar monster in Frontier, breeding season Hypnocatrice. But instead of being a stronger variant, Giadrome would just have different feathers.

I have had a lot of good converations with people after this one, gave me plans and ideas. Maybe its the perfect time to try something more experimental. Once I get caught back up with school, anyway

I think a good fix for Giadrome (without changing much) would be to mainly fix it's design.
I think it should atleast have some feathers, since it lives in cold regions.
Most of those Raptor Dromes have never been really impressive tbh
@@obambagaming1467 if any of them should have feathers, it's definitely Giadrome. Problem is everyone agrees with that statement, and I want to try and do something that doesn't feel like I'm recycling other people's existing redesigns. I almost certainly will end up giving it feathers still, but I need to find something fresh within that. I might have some ideas, we'll see how they pan out
@@indomleon I think you could atleast add cool lore regarding those feathers.
Like that, while it lives in cold areas, the would still be different seasons.
So just like some birds like ducks, it could have different plumage according to the seasons.
The spring/summer ones might be more colorful (you can decide which colors), while it's more white during the winter.
For a creature that lives in cold areas, it would probably breed very early spring.
Altough the problem with that would be, is that we wont see much or any of that during the gameplay.
Even in Wilds, where we have some kind of seasons, it would still be weird if during a fight, Giadrome would suddenly lose it's feathers and grow new ones.
I think one game atleast (maybe it was Dos) they added seasons that affected different things, like what and how many small monsters spawn.
There this different plumage could find it's use.
There is kind of a similar monster in Frontier, breeding season Hypnocatrice.
But instead of being a stronger variant, Giadrome would just have different feathers.
