- Got a new Canon 90D? Make sure to do these 3 things before you start shooting. From registering your Canon to having your camera with the latest Canon firmware update. Many people overlook a few of these steps, but by doing them you’ll keep your camera up to date and ready to go.

Safety first! So, attach the strap to the camera, once you are done, set the time and date on your camera once your battery has been charged. If you want you can get yourself a better strap, like the one offered by Altura Photo.

Now the first important thing you’ll want to do is register your camera. Many people overlook registering their camera and they’re missing out on a lot of perks. Don’t be one of them!

The next important thing to do before you start shooting is checking and Updating the camera’s firmware. Just like your phone needs the latest updates, your camera does to. It fixes bugs and adds features.
Once you’ve updated the firmware now you are ready to customize the camera’s Menu. The canon My menu features allows you to customize your camera’s menu so that you can quickly find the features you are looking for.

Why every body update in that way? Is not more easy with Canon utility?

It would be helpful to note in the video that the camera needs to be in P mode in order to even access the menu you are showing in this video

Didn't get a camera but a lot of mobile camera lenses
to put the firmware on the card do you need to get it out of the camera and get a adapter for the sd or can you just plug in the camera into the pc like you would while removin pictures?
Hello @cooki_licker. We recommend using an external card reader when transferring data from the computer to your memory card.

First have to turn the mode dial to "P." Otherwise, you won't see the Firmware option.

How do i update if my camera options doesn't show the needed settings?
Hello, LordVillain. Have you tried switching your camera's mode dial to either Program (P) or Manual (M)?
Unfortunately I bought the 90D yesterday and the battery charger is faulty (yes, I went through all the recommended steps per their service advisory
). So now I have to wait for a replacement. UGH. Love the camera, though. At least I have another battery that's already charged so I can start using it.
Hello, Deb Bricault. Sorry to hear that you have a faulty charger. I wasn't aware of any advisories on that particular charger but hopefully, Canon sends that replacement over to you as soon as possible. Take care.
I don't have a 90D, but rather a 1D Mark IV. Still enjoyed the production as well as remembering when I started with my T5i.
I don't see the software version information on my site. Are my options hidden? If so, how to enable them?
Hello, necu90. Make sure that your camera's mode dial is set to one of the creative modes like P, Tv, Av, or M. Once, you do that. Head over to the 5th tab of the camera setup menu (wrench icon). You will see the option underneath the Certification Logo Display option. Regards.
Hey, Thank you very much for the nice tutorial!! I have just got my Canon Eos 90D and cannot configure the: "Expo. Simulation" I don´t have the option in the configuration Menu and I have the Firmware version 1.1.1 How can I configure it if i don´t have the option?

Hello, Sottrae Phoeurng. To update your camera, you first need to have your camera's mode dial set to one of the semi auto or fully manual modes. To see the current firmware head to the 5th tab of your camera's setup menu. If you see that the firmware version says 1.0.5 you do not need to update your camera. If it doesn't, head over to the product support page on canon's website and download the firmware. Unzip the file and transfer it to your SD card (do not place it into any folder). Next, insert the card into the camera and head back to the 5th tab of your camera menu and scroll down to firmware and follow the prompts. The description of the update will be provided by canon before you download the file. Take care.

Firmware Version 1.0.5 incorporates the following fix:
1. Corrects a PTP communications vulnerability.
2. Corrects a vulnerability related to firmware update.

@The Angry Italian Scotty Piffin1 Head into the camera setup menu (camera symbol) and scroll over to tab 4. Make sure that the option "Live View Shoot" is enabled. Once you enable the option, you should be able to access the live view in the stills mode by tapping the start/stop button.
