An estimated 2,000 people participated, many of whom had traveled by bus from New Jersey and New York City...

      Especially when someone else's marriage has no effect on them at all. I can't think of one person whose life changed when I married my partner on October 16 2013 in New York or when it became legal everywhere in 2015. In fact, when this was being fought out in smaller courts many judges insisted that the lawyers against marriage show some sort of harm to ant-gay people, and all they could come up with was basically "it's icky to me" and "because Jesus". Epic failures, all of them.

      Valley of Visions Puritan Good thing your terrorist god didn't control our country, we don't have to listen to anything your book claims about him.
      By the way, race doesn't exist. Traits are defined by genes that were either beneficial or happened to survive in a species within a certain environment. A brown, African human being is not much different from a pink, European one than a blue lambo is from a red one with spinning rims. It's just aesthetic decided by what happened to be desired.
      There's no evidence for your god, nor any reason we should adhere to it. Homosexuality is just another form of human interaction. It doesn't require sex, but it certainly can include it. Sex is used by humans for more than just reproduction, hints why we're able to learn about masturbation without much assistance.
      Humans, like other primates, use sex for reinforcement of bonds, entertainment, coercion, and many other things that an intelligent social species may need for basic survival. More animals than just primates do these things, by the way.
      If the Bible was wrong about so many natural phenomenon, has many morally-questionable events perpetuated by its featured deity, and has yet to provide an empirical way of determining whether or not said deity was real and which version is the right version, why should we believe in it? If you personally can't even decide which parts of the gross half of the book are necessary for this day and age, why should we even trust _you?_ Perhaps you're only picking the parts that are favorable to you.
      None of this even matters. Any deity that needs to force me to worship him while letting good people die tragically, blaming negative things he invented on us, and the only payoff is getting to worship him _more_ for "eternity" (the Bible claims he's the only immortal) doesn't deserve the attention of such a race like ours.

    • @muntu1221
      @muntu1221 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Valley of Visions Puritan Genitals aren't designed, they developed over generations of successful breeding. Therefor there is no objective "perversion" of their "purposes".
      Continual physical and intellectual labor would lead to death. What you're suggesting is that humans are meant to constantly exert themselves physically and mentally to the point that they don't have a sex drive, which is at the point where your body is completely depleted of energy, and thus you have no drive for _anything_. Not that you _need_ to drive yourself to death to even be made aware of this, it's evident in the many negative effects your body goes through after continual and excessive exertion. Headaches, cramps, and other such physical signs of fatigue go against your idea of "continual" labor to distract (not alleviate) from the "inferior" (according to you) appetites (biologically hardwired desires).
      The point of me defending "beastly" with what other beasts do is because it's constantly spouted that animals are an example that it shouldn't be done, but then animals are dismissed for being "beastly" (according to you). However, the facts are against you. There are so many implications to your claims you don't even realize, or you simply dismiss them.
      First thing. If many species that have the same organs use said organs for the same reasons, without needing to be taught by another species what the purpose of these organs is, it's probably because it's natural. Therefor your argument that pleasurable or homosexual sex are "perversions" is false, at least on the basis that it distorts the original purpose or function of a thing.
      The next thing, claiming humans should constantly work instead of doing anything recreational. Humans, like most social animals, _can't_ just work and live happy lives. Stress makes an angry and frustrated human, angry and frustrated humans either become depressed or anxious, these such people aren't reliable in a natural setting where every individual is the difference between the survival and death of the group. The fact that your god can't even understand the psychology of his creations is yet another reason why he's not worth following. Ah yes, that reminds me.
      Your creator is an idiot incapable of making consistent designs. Why create a species that is hardwired to relax, do recreational activities, and have sex for pleasure and communication if he doesn't want them to do anything? It's not even like we're _choosing_ to be that way, that's how we were built. It's necessary to our psychology that we relax and have fun, just like any other social animal. Why not build is like ants? I mean, he's just an alien slave drive. The only reason you don't agree is because of the stigma on the word "slave".
      You dismissed a majority of the book of Leviticus, saying it no longer applies to Christians, but you still cling to that one part that hasn't quite become socially unacceptable by all Christians. But hey, I'm a devil.
      I don't even know why I'm having this conversation with someone that doesn't even understand nature, or you choose to deny reason to remain comfortable in your insurance policy, I mean sanity regulator, I mean beliefs.

      I don't understand how people can accept being called that. Same as worshiping a psychopath and genocidal maniac as god.
      I think that it's below me to worship a priest, same for most if not all gods. I can do better than that. And I think the same for most if not all people.
      On a sidenote: With their logic (follow authority), following a Hitler or a Stalin is the right thing to do?
      Genocide in the bible is often said to have been right because it "killed the wicked", which is what Hitler tried to do (he had a stupid idea of who were the "wicked", but how would we know god was/is better?)

      There is ZERO EVIDENCE that shows that Gay Marriage will lead to that stuff. I'm assuming you mean, Legal Pedophilia & Bestiality. Those are the ones I hear linked to Gay Marriage on a regular. People who are against gay marriage are only bringing those 2 things into it because those are things that the majority of the country would say are bad things. And just putting them together makes gay marriage sound scary. But in reality, there's nothing out there to back up the claim of Gay Marriage leading to Legal Pedophilia or Bestiality. In everyday situations, if there's no evidence to back up a claim, we don't believe the claim. This situation is no different.

      It's people in love, and that's all that should matter. If they're good responsible parents, kids shouldn't even be a topic. It's better than having kids grow up in abusive homes, on the streets, or in Foster Homes. Which leads me to my next topic. Yes reproduction is something they can't do, so they adopt kids that need homes. Plus, kids can grow up in homes with only 1 Gender as guardians. It could be a Dad and a Grandad, or a Mother and a Grandmother. And if you're going to use the HIV argument, then Lesbians deserve more rights than anybody. They're the lowest risk when it comes to HIV. Even lower than Male/Female couples. And lesbians can still give birth to children of their own.

      Seeing how Gay Adoption is so little, it's kinda hard to go by that. By default it's gonna seem like Mom/Dad Families are better. Besides, kids grow up in homes with Same Sex Caregivers all the time. It can be a Father/Grandfather, a Mom/Grandmother, a Father/Uncle, Mom/Aunt, even by 2 Brothers or 2 Sisters etc. Do they not deserve to take care of kids? And being in a home with Gay Parents is better than having kids grow up in Abusive Homes, in Foster Homes, or out on the Streets.

      I agree but I have an even better argument against gay marriage. No one is wrong for refusing to embrace high health risks in the name of marriage. The human anatomy does not sit well with homosexual behavior. This argument forces gays to argue against scientific statistical facts in which is a losing battle. Also, if they claim marriage can't be denied on the grounds of health, I just simply mention that incestuous marriage is denied on the grounds of health. If they mention that gay marriage promotes monogamy, I can easily debunk that my showing them the std statistics in the first nation that legalized gay marriage has increased because marriage influences unsafe sex but it does not guarantee loyalty especially among gays. Check out the study 'biology Leaves gay men highly vulnerable to HIV'. If they mention lesbians, I simply show them that pregnancy reduces cancer risks so lesbians have to simulate heterosexual behavior just to reduce cancer risks. Lesbians are also more likely to contract bacterial vaginosis. If they mention anything about its wrong to outlaw sex, I just call them out on their fallacies.

    • @jdalfonso4341
      @jdalfonso4341 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Michael Sanchez Your argument is logical. I give you that. However, it is still flawed because your argument is structured around the premise that marriage is defined as 1 man and 1 woman. That is false. The word "marriage" is a modern day interpretation of hundreds of words that have used throughout human history to denote a union between a man and (insert here). As a matter a fact the oldest forms of 'marriage' or 'unions' are historically 1 man and several women. If someone is going to use the "mariage" argument then the argument that they are actually making if they were to apply your logic is that they are Pro Polygamy and Gay marriage but they are against Lesbian Marriage.... which makes no sense.

    *"Because marriage is between one man, one woman, and God!"*
    Does this mean that all non-Christian marriages are bad too? There's no "God" in a Hindu or Atheist marriage, for example.
    *"Because God made marriage between one man and one woman!"*
    You might want to re-read your Bible... Pretty sure all those God-loving Biblical figures with dozens of wives would disagree with your definition.
    *"Because gay people are so unhappy and depressed!"*
    And who is it that makes them feel that way in the first place?

      Gnostic Atheist = "There are 0 gods."
      Agnostic Theist = "I don't know for certain, but I believe there is a god."
      Gnostic Theist = "I know there is a god."
      Please don't misuse the term "agnostic" again.
      *God reveal himself to people who seek him with pure intention*
      I was a devout Christian for more than 20 years. I did plenty of pure-intentioned seeking. There was no evidence, therefore it is irrational to believe.
      *especially if that God consider certain things he like as sins.*
      Prove that there is such a thing as a "sin".
      *And God knows every thought or intention of men so he won't reveal himself to prideful people atheist or not.*

      Protestantism (which is what I followed for 20+ years) is a DERIVATIVE of Catholicism. Which means, anything they made up and added (like the Virgin Birth, Hell, and the Resurrection) that wasn't cut by Martin Luther is wrong. And also anything that Protestant preachers made up and added which was never part of Catholicism or Judaism (like the Rapture) is also wrong.
      *◄ 1 Timothy 4 ►*
      Why should I care what an old work of bad fiction says?

      You poor, gullible, fool. If I tell you I don't come to hit you, but then I hit you, would you tell everyone I didn't hit you? Regardless of what the Bible claims Jesus said, Christianity IS a religion, by every definition of the word, and you are religious for following it, by definition.
      *Religious wanted the crusade but nowhere in the new testament it is found.*
      The New Testament doesn't describe YOU, so I don't care what it does or does not say about the religious (you).
      *Ephisians **6:12*
      Don't care, just some book.
      *So when religious meant real weapons for so called “holy ware" the bible meant spiritual weapons:*
      Wow, how egocentric. The world doesn't use YOUR special definition for "religion" (or your crappy book's).
      Religion - n :
      a particular system of faith and worship; the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods
      That's you.

Just because god said Adam and Eve are meant to be together in the garden or whatever doesn't mean a man and a man or a woman and a woman can't be together. Marriage isn't the end of your life goals it's just part of it so why should a different type of relationship be restricted because it's part of their rights but now it's being restricted because it's "unnatural" "or odd". Like the video says we aren't supposed to create rules and laws based on religion or just opinion, it's if is so,etching bad going to happen if this is carried out. Nothing is going to go wrong if a gay couple marries because they are no different from an hetero (straight) couple

      Branden Merritt define the difference between CIVIL UNION and MARRIAGE. is marriage a legal OR religious concept primarily?? the basis of the ruling is NOT about equal rights. homosexuals arent asking for equal rights....they are asking for MARRIAGE. indeed, immediately after the ruling pastors and clerks have been sued to FORCE others to accept their marriage, NOT equal rights.

    • @brandenmerritt1
      @brandenmerritt1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Marriage is a legal and secular institution these days, people can choose to make it religious, but you don't have to belong to a specific religion or any religion to get married.
      The only opposition to gay marriage seems to come from religion. I have yet to see 1 valid argument against gay marriage that doesn't invoke a deity or religion

      Zarathustra Owens Marriage is a legal civil concept, if it were a religious concept, then church's would be issuing Marriage Licenses; they don't. Marriage Licenses come from city and county courthouses in states throughout the country. Pastors cannot be forced to perform ANY marriage ceremony within their church. Clerks in county courthouses work for the state, and their job is to issue Marriage Licenses to couples who can legally wed. If they can't do their job, then they need to resign, or be fired. They cannot try to impose their religious beliefs on other local citizens who come into the courthouse to obtain a Marriage License.

    • @zarathustraowens771
      @zarathustraowens771 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ok...let me clarify some legal terms for you. one is called "marriage", which is any anthroplogy book as a RELIGIOUS concept. the OTHER is called "civil union", which is a legal concept. ancient egypt, for example, had ONLY "civil union". so...point: youre wrong. you should study anthropology. churches CAN be forced to perform gay marriages. its called "lawsuit". google that to learn that numerous such lawsuits care currently in progress. third, in KY [which differs from other states] a county clerk is ELECTED. it isnt a job. you cant be "fired". you dont "resign". they are DIRECTLY elected by voters in an ELECTION. get it? they can be impeached or resign...but not "fired". 4th.....she offered to have other clerks do the job. it was refused by the LAWSUITS and the governor. thats called FORCE. follow? no one is imposing religious beliefs. she is simply upholding the KY CONSTITUTION, which directly states that gay marriage isnt legal. if you dont like that then VOTE, but you cant simply change laws with "political correctness". in case you didnt realize: the supreme court has zero legislative power. google that word too.

I went on and said that I didn't see anything wrong with it. I talked with several preachers, read the bible, looked at historical context, and found.....nothing wrong. Besides, seperation of church and state. It doesn't matter what my religion says.
    Well, my preacher from camp came on there. He completely dismissed me and then made it out that I was too young to understand and isn't so good to see adults debating and setting an example for the youth? Then I was asked to message him and explain my thoughts. I did and told him the same thing I did there. He pointed me towards some strange book and refused to talk further.
    I'm a Christian but in no way fond of the church. This is why I'm American Baptist. I don't do well with being told what to believe and think and to just accept it.

    I think what the people "defending" their "religious freedoms" don't understand is that their religious doctrine tells them what they are and are not supposed to do. For whatever reason, people interpret that as an environment surrounding them that the bible provides for them.
    If you think that a gay couple will burn in hell, that's an idiotic opinion that you have every right to have, but the fact that they make the connection between it and public policy shows that they really have the arrogance to believe that the bible protects (or should protect) them from an environment where those "sins" would be carried out.
    They never will understand the separation of church and state because they're too arrogant to even accept that their beliefs are in-fact "beliefs" and not proven facts.

    They literally sound like robots... this is so sad. Not one nugget of substantiated claims in the lot of them. It's all religious talking points that either includes "my belief" or "(enter already debunked reasoning, here)".
    How has mental healthcare not caught up to this problem, yet? I'm not saying this to be purposely facetious or rude.... I really mean it, this behavior is totally off. They are literally staving off reality in order to live out their perspective or self-derived world view. That is clinically defined, already, but they escape the label of illness because.... it's the norm?
    I've never chomped on religion like that, before. I can see why people become so aggressive on the topic... it's such blatantly irrational behavior, but it's completely overlooked.

    • @NairuOnLife
      @NairuOnLife 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dyvim Tvar There's a difference between being hardwired to see and hear things that aren't there, and being taught to feel that way.
      In essence, religion amounts to the same systemic damage that abuse provides. (Mostly emotional, not so much physical this day and age) Applying mental pressures through socialization. It's not even about being poorly educated on reality... this isn't just a knowledge thing... this is manipulating the emotions of human beings to pressure certain world views on people during childhood (When minds are most malleable) or times of strife/hardship.
      It's rare to see religion be adopted by anyone who is in a rational, mature, or stable mindset for a reason. It relies on the absence of evidence and the ignoring of key scientific aspects to accomplish their belief. With those kinds of attributes, it's no wonder these beliefs proliferate.... we're all mentally immature at one point in our lives, and we all deal with depression or emotional instability on some level, at times, as well.

      This might sound like a little weird but there are actually a lot of federal and state benefits that are associated with marital status that are actually incredibly important and almost all of those benefits aren't covered in civil unions. Joint child custody, hospital visits, joint tax filling (which comes with tax deductions), joint estate, in the case of a break up (because of the inability to have joint estate, children, taxes, etc.) all of the wealth and children will go to one of the ex-spouses because it will not be under both spouses names. Also the fact that we separate the two groups (even if civil union and marriage had the same benefits) is bad in itself.

    does that mean that when a male atheist and a female atheist get married it's not actually marriage?

      Ikr. Im a 18 year old Christian and i don't understand how this country can say freedom of religion but then put believes from a religion in the laws. Here is the solution. If you don't believe people should be gay then don't be gay and do what you believe is right.

    • @blankblanky7979

      +chubbychuckle unfortunately doing what you think is right for most other Christians is forcing there belief on non or other religion believers and preventing homosexuals from having rights everyone else already has.

    I'm a gay man, I've been with my husband for 17 years. We finally got married when it became legal. We live a nice life in a nice neighborhood. We go out on our boat, enjoy traveling, and giving dinner parties. We are responsible property owners and pay our taxes. We love our families and our friends, and, in fact, have lots and lots of other long-term-relationship gay couple friends both male and female. Not a single one of them is involved in violence or drugs or is promiscuous or "lives their life in despair". In fact, I've yet to meet another gay person who fits the description that that preacher claims is the typical "Gay Life Style". In my 53 years on this earth I have heard many religious leaders describe our lives in this way and yet have NEVER met a single gay person who fits this description. I seriously doubt if that preacher has either, but he does find it so very convenient to use such rubbish to dehumanize and slander a group of people he obviously knows nothing about. I guess it never occurred to him to actually go out and get to know the people he is out campaigning against giving equality and civil rights to. How very Christian.

    He talks about nothing besides whats in the old testament which we DONT LIVE BY ANYMORE. Oh my word. Non Christians will never understand this apparently. The old law was the law of Moses. "No shell fish, no mixed fabric, polygamy is okay, etc". That was all in the old testament. After Jesus died, the new law went into effect. If people actually studied the bible, they would know this. The new law only has examples of one man and one woman. Nothing else. As Christians, we live by example. Homosexuality is condemned numerous times in the new testament. Revelations 21:8 is probably the most popular verse that talks about it. I'm not trying to argue about this, I'm literally just stating the facts.

    • @Syrinx69
      @Syrinx69 10 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Sorry dear, but if the Old testament laws were instated by an UNCHANGING God who is the INERRANT source of ALL objective morality, then this "old law" and "old covenant" BS is just that.. BS. You can't have it both ways. If shellfish, mixed fabrics, etc. were an abomination in the eyes of God then, then they still are now. Unless you want to admit your god is not perfect and unchanging.
      And no, there is nothing in the New Testament that condemns homosexuality. Those verses are actually mistranslations of the original Greek texts, which actually condemn temple prostitution.

      Fine, let's stick to the NT then. Did you know that Jesus considers divorce and remarriage as being akin to adultery? Where's the push to make remarriage illegal?

    • @fredjones5242
      @fredjones5242 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      revelation 21:8 does not say anything about homosexuality...because it was never mentioned as immoral....what that was referring to was every other sexual immoral act that had already been mentioned such as adultery, rape, pedophilia...homosexuality was never mentioned....

      Emily - So you support slavery as well? I believe Paul mentioned slavery - NT. Or how about the subjugation of women - because even if the husband is a drunken abuser, the wife must obey her husband? And remember - even at that time, men could have concubines and sex slaves... Are you in favor of this as well? Or how about the disintegration of the social fabric - because according to Jesus, son will go against father and brother will go against brother and so on... And let's not get into the whole lust issue... Because a lot of men will be blind - do you support the mandatory disfiguration of men because they lusted after a woman? What about divorced people - should we ostracize them as sinners and through them into ghettos?
      How about this - do what Christ told you to do... Stop condemning other people whom you think are sinners because you are a sinner. "Let he who is without sin throw the first stone." In other words - stop meddling and mind your own p's and q's.

    • @tnghunter

      I guess non Christians will also never get why your beliefs have to be the law either. If being with a gay person is wrong by your beliefs then you probably shouldn't be with one. And abortion is only a sin for *the person who chooses to take that option.* Its not your responsibility to take that choice away for others if they have decided that it is not murder and that they are not ready for a child.

    Well, it's stupid to say "But it's the definition of marriage! It's always been like that!"
    You know that it's a civil act, right? We didn't change your religious act. We changed the definition of the civil act, so we didn't change something that always existed. Let alone that religious marriage didn't always exist, but that's not the point. The point is the government shouldn't give a shit of what is written in the bible. Civil marriage and religious marriage have a similar name, but they aren't the same, stop mixing both.

      Are You serious? I hope this is a satirical post. If not, can you possibly, seriously hypothesize that the gay agenda is so strong that it can actually "force" a Christian sect to accept homosexuality?! If that's the case, these sneaky little conspirators must be everywhere. So, then, why aren't YOU gay, yet?

    • @Pythos_Sapunov
      @Pythos_Sapunov 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hairmetallurgist
      No, i'm quite serious. I don't see how this is "forcing" a church into accepting it. They saw the arguement against it as morally wrong and rewrote their laws by vote within the church.
      And this isn't the PCA. this is the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A), there is a difference in the two. If you want to define it as a sect, then the Baptist church would fall under that as well, being that they follow a bible that was re-written in favor of King James so he could have multiple wives.
      I'm strongly for the homosexual agenda not because I am, but because I think that its morally wrong to deny them the rights of a human being to live a normal life.
      It doesn't do any harm to me or anyone around me. There is no reason not to.

    We're against gay marriage because of our religion but somehow we are ok with freedom of religion despite there being an explicity commandment against that. We can't explain the inconsistency though.
    We don't need to practice buddhism etc even if those religions are allowed but somehow we will be FORCED into a gay marriage.
