The word "but" should never follow "I love you" when talking to your child.
I thank god every day my parents came around and became supportive. My mom loved my boyfriend, but she died in 2009. My dad took longer, but it doesn't matter anymore. Because he sat front row when my boyfriend of ten years and I said I Do.

The really depressing thing is that Pat isn't even that extreme on this position. There are plenty of preachers who would not only advice against attending the ceremony but would also say people should disown their gay children or send them to camps where they are "cured" of their homosexuality.
I'm not saying his position is okay. It fucking isn't. But sadly there are people out there who are far worse.

  • @TheSnappyo

I can't believe a human being can be so sick as to say i'm not going to my child's wedding because he/she is gay. I don't understand how religion can skew if i should go see my child be happy. I would go to the end for my own child and missing their probably only marriage would be a wound in my conscience for the rest of my life.

I'm an atheist, but I decided to look up what the Bible says about families. It was mostly "honor your parents", though there were a few things against greed related to families. I looked to a different Bible related website, and found this:
    "1 Timothy 5:8
"But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever."
Perhaps it could be seen as cherry-picking, as that is one verse. However, I did not see any quotes to contradict this. By not going to their child's wedding, even if it is gay, they are not providing moral support. They aren't providing it for their child, which means that they are worse than us atheists. Of course, Pat Robertson probably never saw this little verse.

This goes to show that not all old people are wise. I don't know how he can tell someone to not go to their own child's wedding because they are gay. If that was me, I'd be the first person at the wedding.

My mother and father did not attend my brother and sister-in-laws' wedding because my brother didn't annul his first wedding (even though his wife cheated on and left him). This was 11 years ago and my sister-in-law is still not quite over it. My brother has to deal with my mother and his wife's hurt feelings. My sister-in-law still remembers and is hurt. So, get ready to have a difficult relationship with your son for many years!

+Timelessmusic Familymusic Well On Robertson, I believe they do attend his college and services and he takes their money and services. I wonder what would happen if there was a sudden out of the closet movement at Regent University. If they followed through on policy, it might not survive. It being the college. They are stuck in the 50s and 60s mentality about that sort of stuff. unfortunately I live in the same area he does. I'd bet he eats pulled pork barbecue, and blue crab too. Local favorites. Damn Virginia is "blessed" with both Robertson and Falwell

MandyDoll It's impossible. There are too many contradictions. You cannot follow the "whole" Bible.
The best part. The Bible, as a whole, cannot be the product of an omnipotent and omniscient being anyways.
Think hard about an omniscient being. You will understand within a few minutes that they are INCAPABLE of change. (Since at every moment of their existence they know EVERYTHING and EVERYTHING that has/will ever occur. Therefore change is illogical for such a being.)
      Change in covenants?
      Hmm......
The Bible with 100% certainty cannot, as a whole, be the work of an omnipotent and omniscient being.

How about you fucking act like decent human being and happily and proudly not merely attend your child's wedding, but be an active participant who accepts their child and their new spouse? I couldn't fathom not attending my child's wedding for this or any reason. What the hell is wrong with these people. They're fucking insane. This kind of shit is really pissing me off lately. I'm so sick of this nonsense where parents disown their children or throw them out of the house because they disagree with their lifestyle which in this case isn't a choice. I love my children more than I can possibly describe and try as hard as I can to support the things in which they are interested even if I think it will likely pass. Children need the loving support of their parents and not bullshit support either. True support. As long as they aren't harming themselves or others (aside from certain sporting activities where there's am element of risk of bodily injury) I'm all for it. As a result, my kids have experimented with a wide array of hobbies and have a voracious appetite for learning and experimenting. My son (seven) insisted on wearing a skirt around the house and even outside for a couple of weeks. I now wonder if I'm a bit odd that it didn't even phase me. After a few days I hadn't even noticed it. He got over it though but it wouldn't have mattered if he didn't. I happen not to think he's gay but he was curious when he saw my daughter wearing them. A couple of friends were so uptight and said that he will end up gay if I don't stop it. Those kinds of statements are naive on so many levels. It assumes sexuality is entirely chosen and that it's a problem to be gay. If my straight or gay son felt comfortable dressing as a woman, more power to him. My wife would love to have a second child with whom she could shop. And believe me, I wasn't always like this. Ten years ago I would have been on the side of my friends. But I grew up and stopped being a bigot once I realized that that's what I was. When my first child began taking I made a life choice to be open, honest and accepting when it comes to my children and to do so with pleasure, not by faking it. I looked at my baby daughter and tried to think of a reason that I would never speak to her again. The thought alone horrified me. I did that with all my children and will remember those moments when they adults and it won't necessarily be so simple to see it. But your children are your children no matter their age and with a few possible exceptions, my job is to support and guide them and to accept their final decisions even if we disagree. Once I've given my advice it's up to them whether they accept it. Hopefully I will have earned their esteem and they will value what I have to say.

Clearly if you have to say, "I love you, but.....," you dont actually love whoever it is and just want to feign compassion.

question: if they changed the bible, old vs new testament, who gave them the right to change the word of god?

  •  9 ปีที่แล้ว

Here presented, is the type who parents, who, put simply, do not deserve to be. The number one rule of being a parent is undonditional love. always make them feel safe, loved, like they belong somewhere. And, even if it is for religious, or whatever kind of bullshit reason, that rule should never be broken (as long as the child doesn't do something that hurts other people). And again, there is no excuse for people like this. It is that simple

According to Christian doctrine, one must love Jesus more than anyone or anything else, including your mom, your spouse or your kids. So if your kids get in the way of Jesus, too bad for them. What an arrogant, greedy and petty god this Jesus is.
