Today when this video went up, Uber Australia emailed all passenger drivers that effective 12/08/24 they are getting another pay cut. They are fucking crooks.
Taxis have been exploiting customers for years, I had a taxi driver refuse to give my disabled aunt a ride home from the hospital from cancer treatment because she wanted to pay via this special cheque that can only be used for taxis because she was a war widow. So honestly I have ZERO respect for taxi drivers after that event!
Yeah they often would reject fares repeatedly too when they were busy. It was a shit service, desperately needed some competition, but Uber is also trash. Just badly done
@@gymwestwood I don't even get that far with Taxis. They roll up and say where are you going, I say ****, the immediately drive off haha, even tho it's at least a $20 fare but it doesn't suit them. I don't even try with Taxis anymore cause of the countless nights I stood on the street waiting for my chance, being in the cold for 2 hours trying to score one. Or they say $40, to go a few suburbs that normally costs $20. Yeah supply and demand, ok, but that's why we need competition. Uber has brought it but unfortunately both Taxis and Uber suck ass
Taxis deserved their downfall out of 10 + trips i got through hailing a taxi only 1-3 were honest the rest were ripoffs i found out later that i was paying the same price for the taxi rides in cash the same rate as a prof3ssional euro car chauffeur only sheer desperation = catching a cab now
An email went out to all Aust pax drivers today from Uber saying they are cutting the Time & Distance rates used to calculate the upfront fares, that drivers don't see until after they complete the trip.
Why? Do you get paid for travelling to the office? Do literally ANY taxi drivers get paid for going to pick someone up? Food delivery drivers? Try using your brain, ma'am.
@@HaggisMuncher-69-420 Ok, I'll explain: It will stop drivers cancelling jobs because they have to drive 30 minutes for a pick up that might turn out to be a 5 minute fare.
It's all in benefit of the customers this works for those that just want a 5 min trip to the shopping center, if you show the destination NO ONE will pick up the fair. because its "not worth the time" but how does that person get to their local shops? unless they wait and wait until someone is despite enough to take the job.
With Radar being rolled out with Uber Eats now, it is abundantly clear that Uber is trying to squeeze every last cent out of the customers and drivers alike. We are getting offers being pushed across the area for deliveries at a fraction of the return of a normal one. It's clear that the newer drivers are unaware of the $ per km/min that drivers usually get because, on the odd occasion over the past week, when I went to accept a radar order immediately, it had already been snapped up. They are essentially palming off their shit in the hope that someone is stupid/desperate
I had to ask 11 taxis to take me 2.5km for $20 the other night at 6am. Clear roads. My phone was flat, otherwise I would have pressed the button. This feature prevents the customer from being discriminated. And also, this country loves flouting legislation and fine print. ASIC loves rocking up to work and doing nothing, every day. It is the Australian way
Chris, how many K's do you average on a 6 or 8 hour shift mate? I know it's a bit of a broad brush question, but you've been doing long enough to know an average. On another note, it's still pretty cold down here near Sydney, ya' missing nothing, LOL.
With the addition of Shop and Delivers to the platforms, where theres now a bit of time earning while not driving the whole time.... im around $1.50-1.60 per km including dead kms where im not assigned to an order moving to a better spot/driving home
Once i dropped my car off for service, waited 10 mins for the Uber. They cancelled and so did the next 4 drivers, I ended up walking home. Too bad I had a Uber voucher I had to use and would’ve tipped them $20 if anyone picked me up. Instead I just walked, I always tip especially if it’s a good ride but I rarely use Uber now. It’s pretty much a last resort now.
That's so frustrating, even as someone who uses Uber and doesn't drive for them. Essentially taking risk each time you accept the job. I'd like to think more transparency from Uber would create a better experience for everyone.
You don't understand contract law. Your contract is with Uber where these operational terms are disclosed, and you accepted that. It is no different to a taxi driver in a taxi rank. They cannot refuse the passenger and have no idea where they want to go or how much they will earn.
It’s proper exploitation and it fuks all of us, drivers, riders when we are trying to function, get to a job, etc, and the brand, surely. With the canceling, the worst time I was waiting over 45 minutes because I had a few drivers cancel, then a driver coming to me for around 10 minutes, then they canceled, then i got a new one, they were driving to me for maybe 15 fking minutes then cancelled, then another driver coming, and i had a trolley of luggage, i was weighing up my options thinking they’ll get here eventually, and that last driver just never showed up, came to a stop on the map around the corner and never moved. I messaged, nothing, eventually started pushing my trolley looking for the car, never found it. I can’t remember what i ended up doing but i mean I needed to get to work, it was a disaster. I’ve canceled rides so many times because it just keeps canceling, finding, canceling. The problem is you’re being led to think you’ve got a ride coming, when you probably don’t, because the company us trying to trick drivers into taking your job when they don’t want it, as you point out. It’s a mess for everyone and I don’t use it anymore unless i’m super desperate because it’s too unpredictable, so i don’t see how it works for Uber either
Business 101: Uber wants to lose money this way, the more losses they show, the less taxes they have to pay. Look up how much the ceo gets paid then look at how much taxes uber pays in your city and now compare that to taxis. Everyone needs to realize, Uber is a cancer to communities and whatever, however big you think you are saving by taking an uber instead of a taxi, you are not. Uber is robbing the community you live in of its taxes that the taxi industry had been paying for decades. Taxis had their problems but nothing compared to the tumor that Uber is. Don't trust an American company, period.
As a passenger, this is the number 1 thing that makes me absolutely HATE Uber!! So many times I'll get 6-10 drivers cancel in a row with up to an hour wait, when it says an Uber is just a few mins away. For this reason I never use Uber anymore for anything important - flights, meetings etc. It's just totally unreliable. Regular Taxis are so much better. What a dumb company to screw over the drivers AND the passengers.
Yeah, it is a bit ironic complaining about this when at the start of the video he's talking about how Uber came in to Australia breaking all the taxi regulations (which they did). What's on show here is definitely not good enough for drivers though - there needs to be a middle ground. It's not a contract if there's not even a dollar value on it.
Sorry mate, you made a factual error and skipped over some important issues. 1. Drivers are not recognised even as independent contractors in Australia. Uber is just a business service (like an accountant) and they are working for the driver! Think of them like eBay. There are thousands of transport companies all selling their service on the Uber marketplace. 2. In your restaurant analogy the customer got to pick from a menu. On Uber you can’t see the menu. You just get offered a single item, which may be a single chili or a whole pot of lambs brains, but you don’t know which it is until you’ve started eating it…
Do you see how much it costs you. Like say I open the app and order an Uber to take me to the airport. Do I see how much it's costing me. If not it sounds like marriage. Oh yeah baby, let me sign this contract to dedicate my life to you and only you. And based on the time and miles and extras we get along the way. Will determine how much this will cost me on the end.
You're seeing this from the driver's perspective only. I've been yelled out when they've gone the wrong way, near misses, talking on their phones, ignoring my requests to try and save them time - I'm a regular user due to an injury, I don't have a choice.
Let's be honest the customer is experiencing this because the driver is greedy and wants a big huge fare. I know of drivers that will decline anything under a certain amount and just wait for a whale fare. Accept only 2 huge fares a night and don't have to use so much fuel etc. Drivers are too greedy
You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.. Uber is greedy, not the drivers. Go and work as an Uber driver for just 1 day and see what you get paid. You'll eat your words!
@@georgekaras1104 maybe I have been on both sides. Tell me why the driver will sit at the airport waiting for will over an hour for a fare in Brisbane??? Because they want the big fare.
