    Another timely video as I take our new to us 2002 Westlake out - So far only the 12V and 120V are working on the fridge - One thing I noticed on a different subject - The lift system is somewhat hard to crank - I watched the video on thrust bearings and when looking at my camper the rivets that need drilled out to access the lift system and the brake light wiring are not there- Instead they are pan head screws- Did they ever come from the factory like this or does this tell me someone has drilled them out and replaced them with screws?

      It’s typically screws, and bolts at the lift system. You are good to go, and on the right path with a new thrust bearing.

    Just one question Derrick, does the kill switch ,when released by removing the upper galley only disconnect the upper lights but there is still 12v power to the refrigerator . Just looking for conformation as there isn't a lot on the subject of 12v use whilst traveling. This is on a Bayside Elite 2003.

      It should not disconnect the fridge.

    Got a Dometic in my Coleman Cheyenne that gets hot in the back of the fridge on 110 and propane, but the fins inside the fridge never get cold.

      This is going to require some trouble shooting. Typically these appliances go into shut down mode when a part of the system is not operating properly.

    The top of the gas control valve where the selector is located is broken and the spring falls out on my 2003 Cheyenne. I tried resourcing a replacement on the Dometic web site to no avail. Do I need to replace the whole gas valve to remedy the situation? If so can you steer me in the right direction?

      Give our parts department a call with the model and serial number to see if a replacement is available. If not dinosaur electronics may be able to rebuild it for you.

    What model # is the refrigerator? It looks like the same one I have, but I can't find a model # anywhere.

    Derek, can’t we both agree that if you don’t boondock at all you’re truly best off just ripping out these refrigerators? Regardless of source, they all seem to cool like garbage and would be smartest to just rip it out and install a mini dorm fridge with an actual compressor and just remove it if it’s stored in freezing temperatures during winter?

    • @popupcamperpro
      @popupcamperpro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve got a few that work very well! They do require period maintenance and upkeep, like any other appliance. The cooling system is unlike residential style units, so do some research before attempting repairs. I’m ok with it if you would like to take yours out and replace with a dorm fridge. It’s another popular option. Just cap the Lp gas line good if you do.

      @@popupcamperpro thanks, Derek. I’ve been looking but any idea what (pretty universal?) size end cap fits these ends to cap it off? Can’t find any info. Appreciate the response!

      @@barccat probably be best to have a local shop cap this connection for you, then preform the safety test

      The one in my 86 Coleman cools well 36yrs later. Works best on propane. Not sure about 120v since that part stopped working and I don't know why yet.

      @@jonmccauley6490 mine actually works great... just needed like an hour to get going on 120v. Now cold as heck.

    Can't stand mud daubers. Not only do they plug everything up with mud but they leave quite a bit of damage when they sting you. Got stung twice by them. Once in the stomach which left a welt about 10" in diameter. Itched like a giant mosquito bite and the center really hurt. Left a 1/4" scar at the site.

      I just got stung for the first time in years recently. Not in the stomach though (ouch!)

      My furnace was heating, but would kill the pilot after 2-3 cycles. Nothing out of the ordinary when inspecting. But it wasn't until I spent the time pulling the whole unit apart and tearing it down that I found mud daubers built nests inside the burner vent, fresh air tube, and fan assembly. Once you get bugs in the camper, they can wreak havoc.
