bought a 1990 caravan a while back could not get the fridge to work was going to rip it out and turn space into storage as new one was beyond our budget. came across your channel and followed these steps now it all works a lot better than i thought it would. happy wife happy life many many thanks, new subscriber.
I have just watched your video and following it I was able to get the fridge back working on gas. There was a dead moth in between the spark and the gas jet. Thank you for your brilliant video. Happy camping car owner in France. 😊

My fridge is that ancient it doesn't have an automatic ignition, it has a manual 'clicker' and you have to lie on the floor and view the sight class to see if it's lit, so if the gas runs out you don't know until you notice the fridge is warming up!

Really appreciate the video. Helping my son repair his 1984 Vangon Westfalia. He does have the budget to replace his OEM Fridge but if we can get it working properly my thought is why not use the money for other much needed repairs which he has many! We have absolutely no clue how this fridge works so I am hoping your other video describes the appropriate operation. Cheers!

Thanks so much for a quality video with good info. My electroluc just has a black push in ignition & it's not lighting. I'm wondering if this requires power or if it's a old skool type ignition that doesn't need power. It makes a loud click but I can't hear ignition spark.

I have quite similar fridge (RM4280/4281)
It works very well with gas but, lately, less with 240v.
Not I big issue, I can still rely on gas and 12v, but I like to fix my oldies.
The green light is ok. I guess that the problem is between the heater and where the electricity arrives.
Do you know if I can find spare parts for a similar model?
Thank you for all this free information my gas sparks but doesn't light up so now I am going to give it a go looks very easy thanks again , ps when I connect my car the red light flashes constantly and doesn't stay solid ? But the fridge is cool when I get to where ever I am going any ideas ?
My 3 way isn’t working at all at the moment been putting investigating for a year since I bought my used camper one of those to do list jobs but now I feel happy enough to investigate why not.
I’ll update in a week as only time I can borrow a compressor.
Very informational video! I'm looking at a Dometic RM 3807 used fridge. they said it was new, is that possible? the tag on the back said the Canadian inspection was 92 not sure if that's when they passed the law to check them or when it was made.

I have a 3 way bluefin fridge in my camper. I want to connect it to butane gas but it doesnt have a connection on the back just a male thread.
Would you know what fitting this would be. Looking for an elbow with a tail to attach a hose to test if it works.

Good video. Could you perhaps do a video on how to replace / repair the thermostat on the fridge? My fridge keeps on freezing everything so I reckon the thermostat is shot.
Ey up, please wear goggles or similar when blowing out ( i learnt the hard way ! ), also i would clear the flue before cleaning the burner, apart from that nice one for giving people an insight into the general things to check.
Hi Ive just purchased a camper Talbot Pilote Going off grid life soon. The Electrolux 3 Way fridge has a issue In gas mode , turn on Gas on Pilot on Let run for 2 hours . Open door and its like a warm oven !!! Any advice please Big thanks for great vids.

Just got her lit from the gas, and the small freezer compartment gets nice and chilly but the main fridge doesn't. I wonder why? 🤔
hi Lee can you show me how to get in to the push button igniter switch.Do I have to take the fridge out or can i remove the front panel by removing two screws underneath. i have a dometic RM8550 caravan fridge its only the push button that's not returning back to its original position. the button itself is a push in a twist type to change the battery.
Can you add thicker wires such as a 6-8AWG or 10-12AWG wire with an inline fuse to 12V part of the fridge connector to prevent voltage drop or will it cause a fire? My luxima 3 way fridge only has thin wiring I’d say around 18-22AWG for the 12V while I was replacing the 12V male lighter plug with an Anderson plug

Great video and info. We have an Electrolux RM212 and it works on 240V but we're experiencing some issues on gas. The freezer part is usually working but the fridge gets warmer by the hour it's on. It went from 2C to 11C over night. The other day it stopped working totally while the flame was burning. Not sure what to look for any suggestions are welcome.
Did you ever find the Solution bought 2nd hand same fridge guy said was working have it level will it get cold just on top of table not made up cabinet yet?

Hey Lee, could you post a wiring pic for the 240 AC element on an Electrolux dometic 6270 , I never removed the element so I never saw where the 2 lives came from, the mains switch I would imagine ? Thanks.
Great video, thanks for the info. I have a Dometic 3-way, not using gas, just 12V and 240V. Do you have any idea of the current draw when on 12V? I ask because although it cools down fine on 240V, when switched to 12V it drains the leisure battery (75Ah) in about 2-3 hours.
That would be 25 amps per hour at 12 volts. If you know the Amps at 240v do the math to figure out watts used then convert it back to 12 volts

Thank you for your video, I have a 2003 Rockwood Freedom Trailer. The fridge has worked a couple of times last season, when I plug it in at the campsite. But I believe the switch for the electrical is not working, because it doesnt click into place when on. Can I replace the switch myself? Please advise. I live in Ontario Canada

Telford N112 fridge is working on gas but not on electricity neither 230v or 12v, both heating coils are working as they get hot but not cooling inside. Any idea what could it be? Thank you
Great video , I've got a dometic RM7291L, my problem is that when using hook up, the fridge green light will illuminate for the 240, and will start to cool, after a few hours the green 240 light will go dim but still slightly lit and fridge will stop cooling, if left like that for a few hours, the fridge will start working again, green light will be full lit and start cooling again, this cycle keeps happening, 12v won't work when towing, tried gas the orange light just keeps flashing, please help its our new van , thanks
Hi There! I am fitting a new 240v element to my 3 way electrolux fridge, both the old and the new elements have 2x brown wires and an earth only and I assume polarity doesn't matter, can you advise me please?
We are on holiday and our fridge won’t chill. Gas and 12v and 240v all good. Heat coming out of vent. We have had the element replaced as it was tripping the electric. It’s worked since then. Any suggestions? I’ve seen some comments about liquids settling and taking it out and leaving upside down over night? It looks almost exactly the same as the one in this video.

Got a Rm2481 with a blown 12v switch indicator bulb! For some reason the 12v system no longer cools and the fridge only works on gas and leccy!

Thanks for the video. My Fridge is a Dometic, but very similar on the back. The rear of the fridge gets mildly cool when run on gas, but the fridge and freezer compartment do not get cold. They do however get cold when run on 240v. It also cools (slightly) on 12v but that drains my leisure battery (even when the car is running) so I don't use it. Any ideas why the pilot light would be on, and the exhaust warm, but the fridge not cooling on gas?
If anyone else comes across this... My issue was the flame. I used a can of compressed air sprayed into the hole by the burner. It fixes it for a short time until I can get the fridge serviced

My Dometic Fridge RM6131 works fine on 240v and on 12v. It lights on gas but the flame wont stay alight when you release the igniter button. Faulty thermocouple or gas valve fault do you think?

HELLO and thank you for the great video. My Dometic 3-way (RM8501) does not work at elevations above 2000m which is where I like to boondock. So I rely heavily upon using propane. I've lost a lot of food to spoilage :( WHAT MAKES ME CRAZY is I've spoken to people who own this exact same unit who say theirs are reliable little workhorses and they have no problem at high elevations or even if it's hot out, they still keep their food nice and cold. I heard that some of these units are "lemons" and that there is nothing that can fix them. What do you think? Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thank you so much!
I have a "Vitrifrigo " 3 way fridge model 5080 it wont work on Gas [ but the pilot lights and stays lit ] or on 240V [ even though the back of the fridge get hot ] but on 12v it works fine ,,, I've checked the thermostat and connected the 2 wires together but it still only works on 12v .. also the ohms meter shows the thermostat is in the switch on position [ like connecting the 2 wire's to make the circuit] any ideas ???

I've brought the same 3 way fridge mine is the bigger model that goes over wheel arch is it okay to use heat shield spray on the gas components on the rear of the fridge as mine have suffice rust so want to tidy it up ???

I have an RM 182B 12/120 it also says refrigerant 717. I am not sure what the best way to test this refrigerator is. Should I use the test procedures in this video? This is a 1984 Westfalia I read that R717 should not use copper piping do you know what piping was used when these were built / installed. Should I replace this unit or would you try to save it?

We inherited an old fridge in our T4 , on mains it's getting colder than ambient but not cold enough to maintain days camping. Could this be a thermostat issue?!

Very good video. Thank you. I have a Dometic RM8501 on a 2012 Autotrail Apache. Assuming original fridge . All lights work ie temp and power selection and interior light but no cooling whatsoever on 12 or 240 or gas. I took the outside covers off and no heat detected, Dealer has supposedly fixed it but now over a year since purchase and not much hope of help. Do you think it can be fixed or a new fridge? If so what model do you recommend. Thank you
If you can, go through the steps to try and repair it, if not, send it to us and we can service it for you
Hi, my 2000 eletralux fridge works fine off mains, but struggling off gas took fridge out turned upside down, left for a few days, fridge and freezer working fine, freezer working to good turned settings down, freezer now not working, tried turning back up but didnt work, freezer cold but not freezing, any ideas would be appreciated, thank you

I would suggest that, or a fault with the earth somewhere. The element is fairly simple and cheap to replace
Should the boiler be insulated and covered with sheet metal to retain the heat?

Gas service , check pressure at burner ,clean flu , fit a spiral to flu , clean replace gas jet ,check ignitor clearance , ensure burner heat exits van properly .
A/C voltage ,measure voltage ,check for volt drop
12v dc check voltage , check for volt drop

---Condenser cooling
fit 2 x 90 mm computer fans 60cfm each minimum on upper wall exit vent . Operate on a 47--50c thermostat
create duct work condenser to exit vent [fans mounted inside duct ]
---thermal heat transfer paste between goes hard [evaporator coil thermal join to fridge tubing ]
---fridge seal
--evap drain clean
I've been given a Smad 40 ltr 3 way and plugged it in to the mains..but not very cold at all..any ideas?
Hi my hooked wire with twisted blade that goes inside exhaust broke at the hook. I had to tip it upside-down and it drop straight out fixed it but when I relight it runs warm inside not cold what should I do now ?
Hi there can you help, I have a thetford n112 fridge, 2008 swift not cooling on 240 works fine on gas put new element in and thermister still not cooling on 240.
My n3112 will not run in 12v or 230v. Runs in gas only. I have replaced main board and was told a 692257 is the same as 691101. Is this correct ?

Do you think if neither the 12v or 240v lights on the front illuminate , then the heater element on the back would be unserviceable ?
There are 2 elements,,one for 12 volts one for 240,,the DC resistance on a test meter would be around 50ohms. If would very unusual for both to be open circuit?
Hello there, I have an automatic 3 way fridge in my campervan, it is a dometic RM series, my problem is when using gas the freezer gets cold but the fridge does not, on hookup they both work fine, any ideas would be much appreciated.
It sounds as if the gas burner is not working 100% or burning clean, and therefore not heating the chemicals in the system enough to make the fridge freezer cold enough.

Hi, yes sounds like the element has failed. They are changed and installed easily. Remove the old one and scour eBay and camping suppliers for the appropriate part
I have an issue with my 3 way Dometic fridge. We had a gas person today (who specializes in this type of equipment) but he could not find the source of the problem. Basically we can smell gas in our motorhome but only when the fridge is ON. When the gas hob or oven are in operation (while the fridge is turned off) we don't have the smell of gas. The flame from the gas hob (and where the gas flu is) is good and the technician said he was quite sure there is no leak of gas. Help would be greatly appreciated. We have run out of ideas and solutions.
Good evening. I have a Coleman 3 way Portable Camping Fridge ( it is old ). It works on 12v, 240v but won't stay lit when on gas. It lights but shutdown as soon as you release to gas control knob. I am thinking it needs a replacement thermocouple. I am in South Yorkshire. Do you know of anyone doing what you do up here?

Hi, thanks for your comment. Yes the 12v element should be connected to the vehicle via a 13amp relay, switched via the ignition, meaning the electricity will only ever be drawn from the vehicle battery when the engine is running
12v can only keep an already cooled fridge cool, they don’t have enough ooomph on 12v to cool down. So cool on mains or gas first till down to temp and maintain that temp while in motion on 12v. The 12v is only for when in motion and when already cold.
Good afternoon, we have a RMH7390L Dometic in our caravan that suddenly stopped working after lockdown. We did find the thermostat control knob was spinning round which we have replaced. When swiched on tge fridge actually gets warm instead if cild and the fridge makes a gurgling sound. We have had both the gas and electric checked and it was confirmrd that both were working properly when tried. All looks well and clean internally and externally, any ideas?
