I bought this camera after the update and am having a blast with it. Not only that, but the photos I've taken with it have helped me get attention from prospective clients. It would be cool if they made smaller, f 2.8 mini primes for this.
Doing a follow-up review is really good of you Lok, I am seriously looking at this camera as my upgrade from Micro 43 where I am still on a Lumix GX8. I love that old camera but I can't afford the new full-frame Lumixx cameras until this new S9. I really appreciate your good points and solid pros and cons evaluation. Thanks for another great video, I hope you are happy in the UK. Greetings from an old Digital Rev viewer and fellow Olympus Pen fan.
YES, Panasonic makes great kit lenses! I am in the m43 system and it is actually almost impossible to tell the kit lenses apart from high quality fast primes, apart from depth of field. I have a very affordable zoom range of 9mm to 300mm (18-600mm FF equivalent) of kit lenses (also Olympus) and one fast prime for portraits. No surprise they did a good ff kitlens
Reading some comments on the S9 😂 I guess some people will never be “in” 😂 It’s WILD people are still acting like a Company made a mistake because a Camera is not built exactly to their liking. 😂 Seriously…Find another camera (which you probably already have) and stop commenting like LUMIX is in trouble for missing your “Blessing”.
Good Luck with both of your Predictions 😂. And not almost everybody, only the small part of the “Internet Influenced Community”. As a Shooter of multiple Brands that I can honestly speak on. I just shot 8 Paid Events in the month of October alone with the S9 added my S5 IIX with perfect image matching. If you are complaining about a Camera then don’t buy it, but the Internet is full of Emotional Commentary by people who don’t use the Product they are vocally unhappy with. Now that is hilarious 😂. You are too vested in something you don’t own or should return because it’s not your cup of coffee. Again saying LUMIX is in trouble while Sony overheats, FujiFilm still has AF issues & Canon lens will break you is rather rich🤣 when weighed against the cost to value LUMIX is trying to offer. All in all, you can have at it with the Brand hate. 🍾
A 600€ kit lens and you're shooting 40mm at f/6.3. That is a tough compromise for a small amount of portability. The Nikon Z pancake lenses are in comparison much more appealing, affordable and still portable.
I think the biggest argument to not get an S9 would be the Lumix superzoom compacts which still film 4k for 15 mins - Academic for me as I will stick with my DSLRs and pull out a super compact just for a walkabout camera .
If it sells for 1300 including the new kit lens, I might be in... Otherwise there are still too many compromises that their lut gimmick just can't make up for (although the new firmware does help alot)
@@BassDad no mechanical shutter or hot shoe are the main deal breakers for me and most if I had to guess. No evf too. Used to be a horrible 15 mins of recording time before overheating to add to that list, but that's been fixed thankfully. But the lack of a hotshoe or mechanical shutter really kills this for any kind of real photography and even some videography
@@akyerit thanks for letting me know. I have been looking at it for a b cam for my s5IIx. I shoot mainly video. Tell me how does the no mechanical shutter affect video?
@@BassDad No Prob. Primarily with banding depending on the light sources you have around you. Electric shutters are notorious for picking up banding in certain lighting. Also has a tendency to have worse rolling shutter. But not always. If you're getting it as a B cam to your s5iix, imo, that's actually one of the few reasons that you SHOULD get the s9 honestly. Primarily because it has the same image quality and abilities, and your s5iix will make up for any weaknesses the s9 has. Also its hindrances are more photo based for the most part. More than likely you'll be fine for your needs as a B video cam.
@@kenduejones Hey there, I Shoot Nikon and Leica. I just purchased an MP not too long ago and i found a Nikon FA at a garage sale. last summer. I also have an FE Titanium. Which Canon do you shoot?
Lumix does not have small prime lenses for their current FF lineup. I am most certain that is what he was referring to since he is following up on his review of the S9.
Bad AF meme is not Panasonic anymore. It's Fuji. The meta is Fuji cannot make a working AF with IBIS body. X-T3 AF is superb compared to X-T4. X-M5 non IBIS body has better AF than the body with IBIS (x-t5, x-h2 family, x-s20)
I like to use the internal mics frequently, and the s9 is bad. Specifically in the new mp4lite. In that mode they drop the audio quality and there is a high pitch wobble noise. None of my other expensive cameras do this, and I have many. Also, the s9 image in video is so brutally oversharp that even setting the sharpness all the way down looks bad. I'm returning it.
I shoot with the S9. I don't use Lite. The internal audio is excellent. And I shoot using V Log to get the best out of the camera. The image is not artificially sharpened to achieve high resolution - the oversampled 4K from 6K has amazing acuity - real resolution. Perhaps you are not used to seeing true 4K, unlike the compromised 4K of other cameras that cannot oversample.
@@markr041 I agree, I just picked one up and took a few sample videos and images. The MP4 Lite is great for quick content as you can edit on your phone with Lumix Lab (one of the main reasons why I bought the camera), but it is more contrasty and less detail, as expected. To me, this is totally fine for social content. In fact, you can do so much in Lumix Lab to correct the contrast, I don't quite get the original comment. Everything else looks great so far. It takes some time to sort your settings, but I have my custom C1,C2,C3 based on what I need. MP4 Lite, 4k 10bit 422, and then 6k Open gate. I leave my main video mode to 4k 60p for any slow motion. This camera is compact, versatile, and produces some great quality images/video. It's hard not to like it.
I don't get this comment: the S5 ii has exactly those add-ons and the same performance as the S9. The S5 ii is an S9 with EVF, mechanical shutter and hot shoe! So you have two options.
This camera is not targeting pro photographers but beginners content creator coming from using their phone and who have never used an EVF, so they’ll not miss it at all! Too many people on TH-cam (pro or not) keep wanting the same thing in all camera regardless of the target market for the camera. So many small camera who don’t have EVF are still selling, so that manufacturers are making second edition of them. Look at the Sony ZV-E1 and mark II, or RHE Sigma FP and FP-L. If you want the S9 with an EVF, then just buy the S5 II
@@jeanchindeko5477 No. The S9 is also aimed at serous videographers (who almost never use EVFs'): open gate, anamorphic squeeze, 6K, lossless 4K 1.5X zoom, waveforms, LUTs, 10bit color, log gamma. It is for non-serious photographers and pro-level videographers.
Quite an interesting video but I was very disappointed to see you following a recent trend where a large amount of your video is given over to talking about your sponsor. OK, mention them but do not just ramble on and on. It makes people turn off.
It's literally his livelihood. He shot, scripted and produced this video for a whopping 3k views, that's like what? 5 dollars? He won't be able to survive without these sponsors. And accepting these sponsors meaning he'll have talking points to meet the agreement. If you want him to stick around and produce more videos then just spend an extra 10-20 seconds of your time while he does the sponsored message. If you don't like it then just skip forward. It's not that difficult. People are very spoiled with "free" content.

If viltrox would release their 20mm and 40mm on L-mount, i bet those would be nice complement to S9
