@@CalebHoover How are you finding the S9 as a photography camera? I am considering it as a second camera (I have the S5 II X) for my TH-cam channel that I plan to use taking photos during the day when I travel. Is the lack of mechanical shutter a problem?
@@boyantrifonov Try shooting with electronic shutter on your camera. Looks fine most of the time, looks terrible some times depending on where you are. And no flash, that's pretty bad for some situations. The minimal grip must be really bad for photography, especially if you use any zoom lens. My hand would start hurting immediately so I'd be forced to buy a grip.
LOVED the intro dude! So good! The S9 is the camera I use the most now, no doubt about it. The new FW is a game changer too. Love this style of content from you dude :)
This is the first time baking in a LUT has made sense to me. If I'm taking footage onto my computer to edit it (which I always am), then it doesn't save any time and takes away all the options. But if you are going straight to your phone and immediately upload that does make sense. However, I'd still likely shoot in vlog and then have the flexibility to choose the lut in lumix lab, plus as a bonus later if I want to mix that same footage into another project I have flexibility. This S9 is a cool camera. I'm with emiliy on wishing it was micro four thirds, but I know we are a minority. Also your wife stole the show.
18 seconds in the zooming has got me. Mockumentary style - genius. As an S5iiX user I've been thinking the same about the S9 (future purchase), if I had it I wouldn't bring it out with me on non-shopt days, but I would take my S9 and Xpro2. It's actually crazy. That said, if I wasn't a Lumix user and I wanted one camera to do it all from pics to clips, it would be the XS20. What a time to be alive to have options!
Caleb and Erica--great video, especially loved the intro and outro clips. Really well done--all of it. I have two S5iiX's and will probably try the 18-40 on one S5iiX for a daily carry before buying an S9. But I hope it sells like hotcakes to folks who don't already have other options. I'm just too old school, I guess. I have used the 28-200 on an S5iiX, snd that combo is quite large and clunky for a walk-around but is my most used combination for daylight long shoots on a tripod outdoors with plenty of light. Long hikes, sure. Dog walks, too much, thus my interest in just the 18-40 lens.
OMG, love the intro! I might have to pick this up over the S1R as my daily walk around. I love shooting in 30P. It's what all my video son here are shot in. Guess I need ot log back into my skillshare and take a few courses since I am heading into more video work and need to advertise it to it's max!
It's just too bad the preamps have the cricket noise problem, and apparently the engineers are so old that they can't notice. the problem is amplified in mp4lite, ironically the format they made so you don't have to do any editing [to clean up the audio]
I've seen a ton of videos talking about the S9 and the S5IIX and I have been considering jumping into the system for various reasons, mainly video and the option of shooting digital XPan style. One of things I haven't seen a ton of is lens suggestion/recommendation videos. The "kit" selections seem okay but what are some of the must haves in the bag?
Just picked up this camera, and first impressions are, the general quality is a bit to be desired. The buttons feel cheap and the screen, for a screen only camera is a bit sub par. In view mode, the image looks soft, when you replay a clip, it looks sharper! Therefore, it must be the bit rate transfer from the sensor to the screen. This is my first panasonic camera, and having previous panasonic products, I would of expected the quality to be better. I am sorry to say, it is not even close to Canon pro-sumer quality (my EOS R and EOS R3). Features are good, but the hardware needs to be better..... 😢😮
@@CalebHoover seems like it would not be too hard for somebody to create some sort of flexible plastic case that would make it virtually weather proof.
1st part of the vid makes me say "why don't you just use a phone" the last part wins me over to liking the s9... but then the lack of headphone jack kills it... so close.
Hey guys, what would you recommend: 1) Zf + 14-30mm + 28-400mm 2) Zf + 14-30mm + HC-X1500 camcorder (25-600mm) 3) S9 + 18-40mm + HC-X1500 + iPhone 16 Pro 13+24+120mm If I want something to shoot everyday life, street photography and artistic photos that I think will need tele, I not a bokeh guy and when I need, these tele coverage will able to produce it and I can make use of the low aperture as a characteristic for my art too, I want something I will actually carry it out everyday, is Zf with that tele lens too big? I always love to have a camcorder but won't be same quality I guess as the full frame but long zoom in a small package
I use s5iix not gonna lie that real time lut really saves time if you use it in a very controlled environment.I really wish for mp4 lite for s5ii and s5iix..
As a s5iix user I am very annoyed with Panasonic. With the latest firmware, it chose to "bypass" the s5ii/s5iix, offering new features only to the S9!!! My opinion is that the s9 will turn out to be Panasonic's last (totally failed) market recovery . If there "is" a buying public, for cameras exclusively for social media, I wonder why they will prefer the s9, over an iPhone or samsung or the osmo pocket 3. I don't wish it, and I wish I could be proven wrong, but in 2025, Panasonic will be out of business of the market.
The first 500 people to use my link skl.sh/calebhoover10241 will get a 1 month free trial of Skillshare premium!
what microphone did you use for the video?
I guess Sennheiser 416, maybe I'm wrong. your audio is so good
I like how your wife was not mad about the six months but she was DISGUSTED you used MP4 Lite lol
haha legit

These vids are great. Fun and different way to deliver informational content vs. the standard TH-camr on camera. Nice work, Caleb.
trying some different approaches to it! haha as always- thanks for checking it out!
If they make a S92 with a viewfinder and a mechanical shutter its a must buy for me
