@Unexpected Art - YAY! So much of being an artist is seeing & hearing 'differently' than the average bear.
Watching Laura get excited & frustrated as she continues to move forward is great. She has a great flow about her.
She has a lot of tools of all sizes and kinds. She has supplies organized by type that she 'typically' uses as well as one room that's a mishmash. I see that as untapped potential/possibility. Then there are the things outside... lol... Aside from her spy storage cases, my favorite thing in her shop (studio) is the block of wood that says 'Glue Drying'.
(For me, knowing how to communicate the same ideas in different ways is so important. I understand that people think & process in different ways. It is crucial for folks that I get ideas & concepts through to them, so I use all the tools at my disposal.)

Brick laying is a mystical art. And I didn't even know you could get a Masters degree in restoring stuff

    • @TimeofMinecraftMods
      @TimeofMinecraftMods ปีที่แล้ว +77

This is not a master's degree from university, it's a "craftsman master". This is the highest qualification for craftsmen jobs (apprentice->journeymen->master), gives you the right to train apprentices and prepares you for running your own business (i.e. it also contains business and legal training).
For many safety critical jobs you also need a "Meister" to verify the quality and accuracy of the work: For example, if an electrician wires up a house, you need a Meister to verify that everything is up to code and safe (something that even a phd in electrical engineering wouldn't be able to do).
Effectively, Germany has two education paths, one being the more academic, the other being the more craft focused.

"Just" the Meister would be equivalent to a bachelor's degree.

    • @vigilantcosmicpenguin8721

Ah, this video brings back memories. :) We had to do a lot of this bricklaying in our timberframe house. We used a small cordless reciprocating saw to do the cutting after trying several methods. One main advantage of using clay is, that their is no alkaline cement to mess up your hands - hence you don't have to stay away from it with your skin. Just grab a handful and throw it whereever it is needed. No need for bricklaying tools like trowels besides heavy stiring. Working this way is pretty fun! Give it a try :)

I am so glad to see talented & trained women working Trade jobs in your videos. We need a lot more women not just working in the Trades, but also owning the companies as well.
There need to be more women & generally more young adults getting into the Trades. In the U.S. we are facing a real problem. The people currently in the building Trades are aging out and not enough people are getting involved to replace them. ( this also may be true in other Trade areas as well.)
It's a great way to make a living & it can be very rewarding. I wish that in High Schools (preferably Middle Schools) 'they' would really promote the Trades - in all areas - to everyone, not just those ID'd as male at birth. College isn't for everyone plus we NEED people in the Trades.
There isn't a reason in the world why women can't, or shouldn't, be an equal part in all the Trades. Those of us men who agree with this have a responsibility to intercept and stop the 'Good 'Ole Boy's (White)' dominsted death grip on all the areas of work. Gender should not be an issue in any area of opportunity or employment.

@@Dave1507 I imagine that is a technique, but in the video when they took the walls down, you could see the outline of large clay bricks. So seems like this house was originally made with clay bricks.

It’s great to see a skilled person at work. Brick laying is fascinating already, but this is at another level!
Also I agree that it’s good to see a female in the trade. Even better when it’s such a good product!
    Keep up the good work.

I can see why she sees cleaning as so important. When that stuff dries, it might be extremely difficult to remove out of all the nooks and crannies of the machine, maybe making it unusable in the future.

I have my reservations on these clay bricks, as there isn't much holding the completed infill panels in besides the triangular wood strips nailed to the oak structure.
Traditionally in Britain, 'Wattle and daub' was in used, though I am unsure what would have been used in Germany. The Wattle was woven Hazel or Willow branches into a lattice frame built into the Oak structure thus giving it support from outward side loads. The Daub is a sticky material usually made of some combination of wet soil, clay, sand, animal dung and straw.
It will interesting to see the end result and how it fairs over time.

I am a bricklayer in Australia and we use our trowel or a brick saw to cut bricks and it’s a 4 year course to learn the trade. So when you said I have 2 or 3 days to learn I did think it was funny. Love your channel and the variety you show so thanks
