    It's hilarious how things have changed from way back in the beginning. When you first got the house it was, 'is it ok to take this floor tile up? Should we take the ceiling down?' Now it's "I see a wall, I'm knockng it down! Yes the whole floor is vibrating, we should look at that, but not today!" I love it 😁

    So good! Your self-contained DJ box is absolutely brilliant! It's astonishing to watch you create. It is so "Laura" to respond to the lack of treasure in the old house with deciding to put treasure into it yourself. What a fantastic person you are. It is SO much fun to watch your videos. Felix - you are the best!! Great team, you two.

    I hadn't realised just how much I was invested in the house repair until I was watching Laura do a cool project and found myself mentally yelling at the computer for her to stop doing it and go back to work on the house.😂

      I'm in a 300 year old house in Yorkshire, and completely agree! Everything done here since around 1960 has been awful, both aesthetically, and objectively in terms of the fabric of the house...

      @@peterhodgkinson2782 Just realised I misread your comment! There can't be many houses of that age that have escaped the various "solutions" that have been commonplace since then '60s - from cement render and tanking plaster to cement pointing and chimneys full of rubble - or attempts at cosmetic modernisation like the replacement of old floorboards, removal of fireplaces, replacement of doors, and so on.

    • @debzeb6899
      @debzeb6899 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I hear you, my house in New Zealand was built in 1895 but in 1960, the decade that taste took a break from, someone came and thought heyyyy why don’t I pull out every beautiful feature and replace with meh. And while I’m removing stuff I’ll make it even less weatherproof! Louvre windows pointing toward Antarctica went in! Three sets! No pile replacement in an earthquake prone site. Those old rotting piles were fine! I could go on.

(I’m now in my late 50’s, not doing much welding or build-work anymore. Now I garden and do “brightwork” which in the wooden boat world is all the finishing stuff like sanding, painting, varnishing etc. but that’s what I call it on land as well). This is by far my favorite project to vicariously watch on yt. And seeing younger wimmens doing what I often times was doing as the lone female is so greatly heartening. Ciao!

  • @pascal6871

    You definitely need ventilation and cooling for that DJ box. All those power outlets will run very hot and pop breakers or even cause a fire inside the box

    • @ElukeNL
      @ElukeNL ปีที่แล้ว

      Power outlets will not run hot at all, only maybe very slightly warm if you draw a lot of current. If they run hot (melting/burning hot) there is a bad connection (half loose, or too thin wire). Maybe the equipment generates some heat (but that's on top in the open). I'm more worried about insulation. (Either double insulate / sleeve the cables, or ground the metal box. Or even both. One of those wires even has a (tiny tiny tiny) hole punched in its insulation by the demonstration of the cool light fitting. Those wago 221 clamps are nice but should still be in junction boxes, not out in the open. Sawing the strain relief off also makes me nervous. But I get it is for a test. Coincidentally a while back I had the opposite problem of needing angled connectors and only having straight.)
      That maybe sounds a lot more negative then I want to put it. I watch this channel partly for Laura's inspiring positive attitude. (And partly for the awesome projects. And cool maker tricks. Inspirational in many ways. Also just the sheer joy in making nice things and the joyful perseverance in rebuilding the house.)

    I have a 128yr old house. The only thing we found under the house was an old jimmy bar, under the lounge room floor, we did find lots of treasures in the garden. Cement kookaburra garden ornaments and more. The oldest treasure was a small, round oil can with a brass nipple and old tools, 3 three sided, cast iron shoe horns for repairing shoes. The house had some pretty unique old furniture, ceramic clocks, vases and ceramic electric kettles. An old radio gram/record player which worked really well.

    That thing you said about not taking the time to do something creative for yourself but feeling like there's no way you can't not do it for your friend. I experience this as well. Not just with making but with taking time to do fun things that have no tangible value.
    Your videos though are indeed treasure. 💚

    I'd make a clay-brick-oven outside with a ceramics-kiln dome on the back, and pizza oven with fire-box on the front, add a stately chimney: all the lumber you have there would be necessary to vitrify the bricks into a heated mass, and readied for back-yard use; firing inside and out, sustained overnight, takes a lot of wood-fuel.

    12:04 - putting the 🤪👍🤘✌️pro in procrastination. Epic. And very well deserved quality time within the comfort zone. Cheers.

    You could probably find a good amount of treasure while metal detecting on the property Like old coins or lost jewelry/rings etc.. ( Cost wise for a detector it depends ) but for a simple one it shouldn't cost a lot.

    Coole Idee mit dem DJ-Pult! Denk daran, die Alubox mit dem Schutzleiter zu verbinden, damit im Fehlerfall keine Spannung an der Box anliegen kann und die Sicherung auslöst ;)

    Hello Laura! Put the time-capsule on top of the roof like we did! It's inside of a ball in a spire on the highest point of our roof. We put it there when we bought the house more than 30 years ago. greets from Switzerland, EsBeSt👍🙏👋

    Many of us have had that moment during a project or reno where we pause for a moment to ponder a potentially major or risky decision and just said "screw it, I'm doing it." I'm thinking there should be a verb for that. Maybe we should say someone is Kampfing it, or "I'm just going to Kampf it."

    In the marine wiring industry in the US, and maybe in other industries, those socket connectors are called vampire taps. Kind of a fitting name.

    The joy of bringing back to life your old house is the treasure. You should cut all those sticks into q2” pieces and sell them on your website then everyone can have a part of your experience 😊😊😊😊😊
