    Hi Mark, I have seen this video before, however I just revisited this video again today since I find myself on the cross roads to purchase an adjustable base or not. I had previously all very similar thoughts as you pointed out in your video about introducing more complexity, moving parts, windage limitation, scope sweet spot performance, etc...and my thoughts were to invest in a better scope with more elevation/windage adjustment....but because of budget constraints we all feel compelled to spend less money and add a cheaper solution to the equation, but the truth is that we might find a "quick fix" to a problem that should be left to a built for purpose tool (tier 1 scopes, in my humble opinion)....I was almost making an impulse purchase of an adjustable base, but your video helped me to reafirm my thoughts on that....I will save for a proper scope to reach out further....thanks a lot for your truly unbiased view /opinions on this and many other subjects.

    Love you guys as always, but you should have sent that unit back and tested the improved one. It's only from seasoned users like you that manufacturers can get quality feedback to develop better products. I'm searching for ways to get more range from a rimfire and I'd love more choices which are tested. Much appreciate the honest video even with the rolling text disclaimers! This is the sort of thing that builds trust. Good on ya mate.

    Thanks for posting this. Your experience saves me years and money. They may work better on subsonic 22LR because of recoil? But not my 7mm rem mag.

    Thanks you guys for all you do for the community.
    I have a 110moa scope on a MDT Tac 21 chassis (20moa integreated rail) and can't do the 55moa combo, any combination comes to 50moa or 65moa. Which way will you go, 5moa below or 10 above?
    Thanks.

    Excellent video. I have two quick questions:
    1. How often do you change the the angle from one setting to another? Or do you just adjust the angle to fit that particular combo of rifle, optics, and intended use, and then leave it (meaning if there was a fixed mount with the same angle that would've worked as well)?
    2. What kind of repeatability are you seeing when changing from one setting to another (and then back again)?

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Assuming you watched the video and you are talking about the ERA-TAC adjustable base, I change the angle of the ERA-TAC base when I want more than 120 moa of elevation, and yes it is completely repeatable, Cheers

    I've used the same bases as you Mark and come to the same conclusion. Really like the ERA base but I have messed up with it not tightening it up enough but its still my main one. What happened to the periscope type thing you tried? (forgotten what it was called)

    I'm trying to raise my scope up higher so my chest is not on the ground. I have a 34mm nightforce rings, and the scope is to low. i would like to raise it 2" higher. do they make an 2" adapter to put on your pickatiney rail , where both sides would be pickatiney so i could put my existing rings on it which is on my scope? If not please tell what i need to get. Thank you, Joe

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      To get your chest up, you need to raise your shoulder position, to do that you need to raise the rifle (taller bag, bag rider lowered, taller bipod, etc) and then with high scope rings where scope is up with good clearance and give a good head position and you will find everything starts to work, Cheers

    How many minutes up are you when you are start to see the barrel on your .300wm? As this would be my most powerful caliber I use thanx for the heads up mark

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you are asking about the 375 GIBB and that would not be an issue for you, that rifle has a 33" barrel with a 5" break on it, a 300wm would not the same length so not have the issue!!

    mark am I correct in saying that you use the reticle as hold over to zero your rifle at 100yards when using the adjustable base?

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I zero when flat, then use the adjustable base like turrets, adding on how much elevation I want, Cheers

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a simple home made gauge, but there are many that you can buy, then get as close as I can to exactly .010" jump, then lock down position of setting die and use like that. On a set load I will not adjust or even measure, I leave the bullet seater alone and only on occasion repeat process to double check. FYI I don't tend to run lots of different projectiles so I can leave seating die alone. When I am testing different projectiles I use another seating die for that, Cheers

    Hi Mark , I'm considering both the Charlie Tarac or the Era-tac mount but waiting for the Turret Charlie . What have you found happens to your zero when using the Era-tac and say putting on the 70 moa and then taking it off ? I have a 7mm Norma Mag using the 195g Bergers , NF atacr with 30 moa rail and 30 moa one piece mount . I also have two older Leupold Mk4's which were the fixed 16x that were both converted years ago by Dick Thomas at Premier ret's to 24x and both have around 148 moa but with only fine duplex's . Is the Era-tac gain just 40 moa if i loose the 30 moa one piece i have now ?
    Regards
    Greg

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I find the ERA TAC bases work very well, there return to zero every time, I use them with custom 60 moa bases from Mirage URL, Cheers

    • @OSOK7
      @OSOK7 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My Atacr scope seems to be restricted to 14.5 moa either way on the windage which i can't seem to find out if i can remove the restriction . I know there is always holdover but on a scope that has 60 moa windage built in ..... how do i get to it ?I know you use the Nightforce so am i missing something ?RegardsGreg

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The new ATACR's have a limit stop built in, I had to remove mine, there was a couple of little screws under the turret that let me remove the half rotation limit (put there for the PRS guys), Cheers

      Hi Man, no sorry not seen one, they sound like they should be good, I thought about using for our Ultra long shots, but having a front focus lens will not suit mounting anything on front. But as said they look good otherwise and reviews seem great, Cheers

    Have you changed your assessment? I see you always use Era Tac in recent videos. Is their Gen2 more reliable?

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are referring to the Coldshot, then I still fell the same about that kind on adjustable base, others included, I use the ERA-TAC, because it locks properly, and because it only goes to 70moa, Cheers

    @clausziegler5720 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Mark,
    your argumentation is making much sense!
    kiss is most of the time the better solution. But this reminds me to your test earlier this year about the Charlie TARAC (the device looks like a periscop of a submarine). You made 2-3 videos about it and than no more. Why? Was it a problem to mount it consistently to the scope?

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because as said in those videos it was my last chance to shoot ELR that season, I am waiting for the ELR weather to return so I can go back shooting Extreme long ranges, make sense?

    • @clausziegler5720
      @clausziegler5720 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Off course - many thanks for your explanation and I am looking forward to your next test with the Charlie TARAC. I would than like to get your thoughts what is better: A moderate inclined scope base and the Charlie TARAC for long range shots. Or a maximum inclined scope base which is using the scope maximum adjustable range. I am coming from the Hensoldt 3,5-26x56 which can use a scope base with 60 MOA. Instead of using 60MOA maybe a 20 MOA base and the Charlie TARAC is the better choice? But this would not be kiss, because of the extra device and extra possibilities of errors

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do it properly, run correct base, I think that scope has 160moa (400cm/100m)of internal adjustment, so 80 moa base, that would then give the full 160 moa of adjustment, which will do most ELR shots, unless you are looking at ULR shooting, you will have everything covered. But work it out first, if you need more info on that, find the how to set up a scope video I did a while back, Cheers.

    Mark, an adjustable scope base to me seems counter intuitive? I learned earlier on like you said Keep It Simple Stupid! and murphys law say the more complicated it the more things can go wrong!! Some times Old School is the best school!!

    i need a spanish translate of the video....

    • @markandsamafterwork
      @markandsamafterwork  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well basically I am saying that adjustable bases can have some issues when used for precision shooting, they can have slight movement between shots, that can cause less accurate shooting, so for most I would suggest be prepared for this if using, and do your research as you should with all products before using such products, As for Spanish, I know the are apps for translate videos but not sure, can you use TH-cam Subtitles to get translation? Cheers
