I can't remember a day like you had filming this, living in the north west GREY skies are a plenty and very damp. Tinkering videos are the best and "dads" knowledge knows no limits.
@@JonCoupland It is Xmas, after all..very soon..My Dad` s always had A diesel, and that trick of pre-heating glow plugs was standard practice at his House for donkey` s Years..Took A while or five to start all his cars in winter, but no single EV can ever sway him from diesels..proper old School, my gaffer..By the way..your Black Knight Made an appearance on Norwegian TV this week, alongside A certain Mr. R. Hammond..😊
Nice job, Jon and Dad. A common problem with these Doblo glow plugs, is corrosion the tips of the glow plugs / ends of the glow plug wire. This tricks the glow plug control unit in to thinking there is a plug down, and the associated flashing for 15 seconds.
It's always good to see your videos with the two of you. You got lucky with the glow plugs as my Mondeo has a Peugeot HDi engine as found in the 407, and its glowplugs are buried down the back of the engine and with it being a 2007, on 234,000 miles, with the original plugs, i don't fancy my chances of them coming out in one piece!
I use copper slip on glow plugs. That’s what I was shown as an apprentice. Worked for me for over 30 years. Iv just did this job on my mates corsa last week. (Same engine)
Years ago I had a Bedford Midi (actually an Isuzu) and had to fit a replacement secondhand engine. The engine was one that had been imported from Japan and cost as much as I had paid for the van. It would not start at first and I found all 4 glowplugs had failed. I suppose someone could have nicked the good ones and replaced them with duds but otherwise I don't know how they were starting it like that.
That'll be the same as the engine in my Mondeo then. I'm guessing your S-Max is a 2007 to 2010 model? Alan Howett has a good video on how to change them and because the engine is out of the car, you can see where everything is.
I successfully removed removed 4 glow plugs from my diseasal Merc & then sheared no 5 😮 .... I let a local garage sort out the sheared off remains & do no 6. I used a 1/4" drive & T-bar & still managed to shear the plug. The walls of the plugs are so thin. 😑
What sort of a person usually carries an endoscope in their pocket ? Bit weird me thinks. Each to their own though ! Interesting now to know a bit more about glow plugs, and a town called Mablethorpe! Enjoyed as always. 🤗

Well done on the price of the glow plugs another successful video
Yes an absolute bargain

That could be what we were facing too! 😊

No I agree 😂
Another very good video gents😊😊
Glad you enjoyed it - thank you
I have a workmate like that one. A relatively early one with metal leg retaining clips. Better than the pesky nylon D clips that always fail.
It's certainly an antique. Dad's had it a long time
Lovely 💪🏼😃
Thanks for watching 😃👍
Airbox/engine cover. That’s a good idea.
Absolutely 😁
I used aluminium anti seize on my glow plugs thread!
Ah that's interesting to know 😃
You need them in this weather, that's for sure 🤧
That's what's forced me to do them 😭

Much of a muchness I believe - good to know other folk use it too 😃👍 something better than nothing

Hopefully you managed to get new ones in ok.
Personally I wouldn’t put anything on them they don’t when they are fitted in the factory but as your dad said people have a different opinion
Interesting. I agree it's a personal preference thing 🙂
Change the name now to “Loyal Snail” 😂😂
😄💪👍
This is a job I'm really not looking forward to on my 2.0 TDCI SMax... For some reason the put them in the back of the engine.
Oh no! 😮

@@RikAindow It is indeed, an 08 in fact. Luckily they are all good for now but yep, Alan Howatt has been a god send for this car so far haha

I'll tell you. An absolute legend ;) thanks for watching
@@JonCoupland Oh yes of course, I should have known.
Thanks for your clarification.😁🙃
