Back in the late 60's we used to cruise The Strip all the time. I remember The Whiskey, The London Fog, The Kaleidoscope (The Hullaballo Club), The Roxy (around 1972), The Rainbow, The Troubadour (Santa Monica Blvd.), Pandora's Box (where the 1966 Sunset Strip Riot started) and many other clubs I can't remember. We also cruised up in Laurel Canyon where all the rock stars lived (knew where Jim Morrison, Frank Zappa, Mama Cass, Mickey Dolenz, Joni Mitchell, David Crosby, Roger McGuinn and many other lived). I never made it to The Whiskey as you had to be 21 to get in back then. My first rock concert was at The Kaleidoscope when I finally turned 18 in 1968 and saw Canned Heat and Vanilla Fudge. I finally got to go to The Roxy in 1973 and saw Linda Ronstadt and Roger McGuinn. I know The Whiskey and The Roxy are still there but now The Strip is nothing but high rise condos and office buildings and a Starbuck's on every corner. I also remember Dino's Restaurant and the valet parking area where they filmed outdoor shots of the old TV series "77 Sunset Strip." I must be getting OLD!!
Florida needs a Whiskey a Go Go. IM a musician and live 8 miles northeast of Downtown Orlando and there is s lot of talent here Another spot should be Miami.
@@arthurlambert6418 I can picture the smell of a mix of bo and stale cigarettes. Still, you got to see the Doors! I know I have limited opportunities to see the two surviving members ( one of them was actually at the Whisky last month!)
I went there in the early 90s hoping for some sense of the "old vibe" and it was a disappointment. It was pay to play and mostly struggling hair bands. I didn't go there often but it really seemed to be one of the least happening places on Sunset at that time. Maybe it evolved a little more after grunge hit town

My band, Fraid Knott, headlined at the Whisky back in Nov. 2001. That was fun! I still have the performance on VHS!
Hope you have digitized it! 🙂
@@Dozenspeed Not yet...I do want to do that.
My daughter played there last year. Marisa Deering. Look her up.

Never been never will. Thanks for the tour.
Thanks for watching! Would love to grab a whiskey there sometime (when its open)! And of course see a cool band (if there's any left)
@@HistoricallyMarked BTW Johnny Rivers is only second to Elvis.
Van Halen, December 31st, 1977. Greatest performance on the Whiskey's stage ever.
@@HistoricallyMarked Have a good one brother.
So.... like an LA version of Cicero's? (R.I.P. Cicero's 1977-2017) 😔
Sorta. But Whisky is way more famous 😂🤣
Went there in 67 to see the doors, small place & it smelled

Cigarettes and weed and spilt beer is what rock n roll smelled like, not like today where clubs are expected to smell like lemon 409
