Being such a classic rock/metal fan, you do not know how bad I've wanted to see the Whiskey A Go Go. Thanks, so much. I always wanted to go to the sunset strip. 🌇 I especially love the 80s.
Wow! Talk about Rock & Roll History! The iconic Whiskey A Go Go ! I have never seen inside of this place before it doesn't look that big on the outside but is huge on the inside. I love it! Thank you, Rayden, for the great idea! Thank you, Jake, for letting us inside. Good Luck to the band I wish you all good news for your future and most of all, a big Thank You Scott! This was great!
I had the pleasure of visiting the Whiskey on a Sunday night this summer. Some great live bands were playing, for no cover! Had a few drinks, sucked up the atmosphere, thought of all the history of the location, bought some merch and then headed over to the Rainbow where Whiskey staff had continued to party. Can't say enough good things about the staff. The door man had his ink done by the same artist who did Danzig and Rollins' ink, who has now unfortunately passed away. Motley Crue's old apartment just up the block, the absolute nostoligia of the entire area.... that whole block on Sunset is amazing.
I can't believe that the Alta Vista is still there. That was where Jim Morrison kept a room for 2 years. I read recently that it's up for lease. It looks like they have tried to keep it looking the way it did back then, repainting it the same minty green.. I hope they don't tear it down. The Doors' old studio is now a restaurant. The office building where Pam had her upscale hippie boutique "Themis" is a Persian rug business. At least it was in 2015. The apartment that Ray and Dorothy lived in with Jim on Venice Beach was torn down and a modern house built on the lot. I grew up in South Pasadena and our family used to go to Venice Beach all the time on weekends. When my daughter and I were there, I was amazed to see what appeared to be the original rings and monkey bars that Jim and Ray used to exercise on. Back then we called it "Muscle Beach" because all the weight lifters used to go there to work out. 😄
Great to see. Legendary and awesome club. Was one of the must do's when i first visited LA, and all should visit when there. Especially on a Monday, almost every Monday night is Fast Times a great 80s cover band.
It's nothing like it used to be, everything is gone now, all it is, is a living museum. Everything in California is gone but the beautiful beaches and mountains and deserts. Population exploded in the 80s and 90s, now everyone is leaving except the illegals and the homeless. It's sad but the political rules have ruined it for everyone.
Thank you so much for sharing this!! As a full rock n roll fan, I felt inside living history while watching this video. So amazing!! I want so bad to visit all of these places one day. Keep on with this man, you give us great feelings of nostalgia and a lot of happiness
Wow, hear all the stories about this iconic place. Was totally surprised on how tiny it is! Man if only the walls could talk... Great stuff, love it and looking forward to the rest of sunset Blvd tour...
The music club made famous by Johnny Depp and other buildings will be razed for a mixed-use community. The Viper Room, once owned by Hollywood actor Johnny Depp, will soon face the wrecking ball and be replaced with luxury condominiums, shops and restaurants
@@charrua59 I've heard this. Sucks how LA just throws away its history, but I guess things have to evolve. It's cool though to look at old footage of the Strip and see the building the Whiskeys in, and the building the Rainbow is in.
Great video as always Scott. I played Axl Rose in a GNR tribute band that landed me a role on Parks and Recreations playing him. I now have a production company ironically with GNR photography Robert John.
I love the stories about the Crue when they would play the Whisky in the earlier days and afterwards would yell "afterparty at our place", and the whole crowd would just follow them up the road to their house to party till dawn.
Well hot dam that was cool! Thanks so much for doing that tour! I'm sure lots of folks all over the world will be getting a real kick out of seeing this tour. I really dig the upstairs area, that would totally be where I'll hang when I go there eventually. Interesting that such a world famous live music venue has such a regular PA and console. Thank you also for getting up on stage and showing us that view!
I haven't even watched it all yet and I'm JEALOUS 😭 I wish I could've been there in the 80's wow. If only the walls could talk...🤘🤘🤘🤘🍻😁💜Thanks so much Scott!
Thanks Scott for sharing. Definitely a iconic club. Never been there, but maybe one of these days . I'm a new Jersey guy. If you get a chance do a video on our Whiskey a go GO. The Stone Pony in Asbury Park. Thanks scott.
Thank you, Scott!! As an Aussie that might never be able to make it to the USA, your videos give me a look at places I could never even imagine I would see inside of! You are a legend!!
Kiwi living in Qld here mate. Have been to USA 6 times, going back again in April. Been to LA 5 times, seen all the clubs, etc. All I'll say to you is just do it. Save some cash, book a ticket, and jump on the plane. It's that easy. Good luck! 😊
So cool!!! I wanted to go there many years ago but never made it! Great video Scott!! Man what a tour you got!!! Much love ❤. Gosh I can see the doors and my favorite Jim Morrison on stage!!!
Its been 25 years since I was there. I was fortunate enough to headline this place on the weekend every once in a while as a local rock band. They definitely cleaned up the backstage rooms and unfortunately painted over walls of ancient signatures from big name artists. Great to see this and take a trip back in time when some of my best memories were happening. Thanks man!
That no doubt, was awesome for you and your band. To play and stand where Jim & the boys played and from where were ultimately banned. A great idea would've been to photograph all the signatures both in group form and singular and then reproduce. Iconic. I have some signed pieces. Music & Comedy, Forever !!
You were right, Scott......I loved it! 😍🎸🎶🎹🎙 I got goosebumps when you stepped on the stage. I could just picture Jim M. up there doing his thing. Didn't you feel the urge to do a little Lizard King dance? 😁😎 What an iconic place in music history! I can't wait for the rest of the Sunset Strip videos. Thank you for this treat. 🤗
My older sister saw The Doors play there when they were the house band at The Whiskey. They are still my favorite band of all time. Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison were well educated intellectuals. Their sound was unique. They practically invented psychedelic Rock, but also incoporated blues and classical elements in their music. Robbie Krieger was/is an accomplished flamenco guitarist and regarded as one of the top 100 rock guitarists. The late Ray Manzarek is listed as one of the greatest keyboard artists of all time. John Densmore was/is a wonderful drummer and admitted it was a challenge sometimes playing with Jim because he was often drunk and would go off script and create chaos. Morrison was a brilliant writer and poet with a rich and powerful voice, but also a severe alcoholic. "Self-destruction" was his middle name. The Doors paved the way and no one could ever duplicate their one-of-a-kind sound.then or now. Their music sounds just as good today as it did nearly 60 years ago. And I told Jim exactly that when my daughter and I visited his grave on October 9, 2013. It was a very foggy and rainy day in Paris and no one was standing at his grave except for the (obvious) plain clothes guard leaning against a tree smoking a cigarette. There was only a low barrier gate in front of his grave at the time. Since it had started raining heavily and no other people were there at that time, the guard motioned for us to go over the gate if we wished. We thanked him and I told him that I grew up near West Hollywood and my sister had seen The Doors perform at The Whiskey A Go-Go. He told me one of their guards had witnessed Jim's burial. He said it was very sad, that "the girlfriend" had bought their cheapest casket and there were no prayers or any kind of ceremony. As soon as Jim's casket was lowered into the ground, they all took off. He said the older guard told him it was "disgraceful". The French have great respect for the Dead ( I am American but 70% French). The Parisians didn't like the way Jim's burial was handled. Pam et al pretty much just threw him in the ground and took off. The guard was so nice to us. I was limping from a stone bruise and it was raining heavily. I think he took pity on us. 😉 He let my daughter and I sit on the edge of Jim's grave. We sat there clutching our umbrellas lost in our own thoughts. I couldn't believe that I was sitting on Jim Morrison's grave in Paris in the rain. Sensory overload! 😢. We wore raincoats but still got soaked. We didn't care. We quickly gathered handfuls of chestnuts that had fallen on Jim's grave as mementos. We just stuck them in our raincoat pockets. By the time we left, we were both shivering from the cold. As we left, we gave the guard our profuse thanks and he said, "You know...we see Jim's spirit here all the time." I smiled and said "I don't doubt that." Pere Lachaise is a VERY beautiful, atmospheric and mystical place. When we returned home to the States, I counted the chestnuts before I rinsed and dried them. There were exactly 27. 😱 I put them in a beautiful Waterford Crystal bowl which sits on my coffee table. They look exactly the same as they did 9 years ago.
My parents met when they when they were Freshman at UCLA in 1965, and they were at the various clubs on the Sunset Strip, and other venues around L.A. checking out the music scene. They both loved going the Whiskey, and it was not only a great place to see popular bands, it was a great place to check out bands that had yet to make it. They saw Love at almost every show they played at the Whiskey, as well as seeing The Doors before they had a record deal. Both my parents were there the night in August of 1966 when The Doors got fired after playing “The End”. They would often smoke weed or take acid before hitting the town, which was common back then. One thing that was really cool about the Whiskey is that famous musicians and actors would freely mingle with the public, especially on the dance floor. Of course, the Manson family murder spree pretty much changed Hollywood and L.A. overnight from being free and easy to everyone locking their doors and getting security systems and bodyguards.
I wish I was in my 20's in the 80's, I'm geeking out over the bands. I saw GNR on Friday night they were awesome. I wish the Cathouse was still around. Hanoi Rocks, RATT so many awesome bands. Thank you for sharing this.
I went there when I was 16,, that was 54 years ago. No one asked for my ID in those days. All I remember is people were very nice to me. I love and miss Southern California. Nice video, Thanks for the memories!
Ive been there many times and got to work the sound system for a few gigs with local bands, went backstage.. the History vibe is everywhere and Awesome!
Love the video!!! Keep them coming. Especially on the sunset strip. I was a teenager in the 80's so the sunset strip is probably number 1 on my bucket list. ✌️🍻🇨🇦
Scott, this was one of my favorite vids of yours ever!!! Always wanted to see the inside of the Whiskey, grew up listening to Van Halen, Crue! So awesome you got to be on stage!!!!!👍🙏🏽☠️🤘🏻🎸
Such a cool place!! A lot of great bands played there!! Thanks for all you do my friend!! You are so amazing!! Love your channel!! Much love!! 💙💙🥰🥰🙏🙏💖💖❤️❤️♥️♥️🥳🥳🥳✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
Awesome, thanks for taking us on the tour of The Whisky A Go Go Scott, So much Rock N Roll history in that place. This will probably the only way I ever get to see inside this place and I enjoyed every minute of this video.
Driven by there a bunch of times but never went in. It's surprisingly smaller than I thought, as far as where the band plays, people watch, etc. As usual, great video, Scott!
@@Caffeine_Club Yes, they were originally based out of Edmonton. (Had a feeling someone would bring that up) I've seen a few images of that guitar floating around. Scott's video seemed to capture the best image of the sticker on it. There's also images of James Hetfield wearing an SNFU shirt.
@@ShwaRawker I haven't seen that! Nice to know that they had some fans in the scene. ...And No One Else Wanted to Play is one of the most underrated albums in the North American 'punk' genre.
What a cool video! It seems like such a cool vibe and it still seems throwback, and not by trying too hard to seem throwback! Thank you for showing us all of the pictures and the stage. Also, very cool to I hear about Blitzkid, total chill dude!
Thats one of the bigger clubs on sunset, if you see the Rainbow and the Viper room, they're tiny. Its impossible to imagine their heyday with 100's of people crammed inside there.
Nice video Scott! I was planted on one of those booths one cool night. Haven’t played there yet but multiple friends bands have. Place is cool. ✨ rock is alive and well😎🎸✊
great classic of rock history does any of those still come in or just memories but great pictures of how they looked years back good job like always lol 😚😚😚
In the 80s I went into the WHISKEYS BATHROOM ,and I was like oh my gosh I'M STANDING ON HOLY GROUND EDDIE V.H. ,DAVID LEE ROTH WERE IN HERE ,I REMEMBER ALL THE AUTOGRAPHS LEFT ON THE WALLS ,. IT WAS A MAGICAL PLACE IN THE 80S ,
Excellent vid scott.Blitzkid i remember seeing them in the 90s.DEATH recorded a live video and album at the whiskey in 98.You can watch the vid here on yt.Happy holidays!
The story of what happened after the oasis story is completely mind blowing. Your right Scott, I named a band immediately and looked them up. Yes, they played there.
legendary club. i am all about everything 80's and crue is on my mount rushmore of favorite bands so thanks for doing this video. man if those walls could talk...
Thanks man! What a beautiful trip it’s been! Johnny Rivers live at the Whiskey was my first introduction (my uncle bought all kinds of records back then) and it’s been a non-stop musical ride ever since! Keep rockin’ baby!
Great job. I'm a huge music fan...love all types but my heart is with rock and metal...anyway...the history of this place is just mind blowing. Ty for doing this...very cool.
WOW! How Cool 😎 This is History I have a trip scheduled to L.A. for the first time in June I'm super excited but, also SUPER nervous. Thank you Scott! I Hope all YOU HIP People have a Fantastic Thanksgiving If you celebrate if not have a HAPPY Thursday ♥️
THANK YOU. This is my dream place to visit in my life time and that doesn't seem possible in the foreseeable future, so Im glad that you made a video of how it is to walk around and go there. Best of luck!
Hi Scott 🙋🏽. Good Evening To You ‼️. It must be so nice to get out and see ALL the different people and places. Continue to enjoy the rest of your weekend 🙋🏽💯
I was just there last week. First time I was there was to see Pantera while on tour supporting Cowboys From Hell. Dime went by Diamond and Phil still had the Mohawk. 🤘🏼
Seen Hollywood Roses there last November while doing the tourist thing. Had some beers at the Rainbow room before. Reliving my 80’s nostalgia. Great night, cool being there.
I saw HEART for $10 in the band’s prime and Oingo Boingo when they started out, along with many other bands at the Whiskey…. many many good memories - thanks Scott for another great video 💌👏🏼🎶
Cheap Trick rocked this place in ‘77 for 3 nights just before they became world famous from Budokan and the rest is history✨🏁 They released a limited box set, Live at the Whisky 1977, of those performances and it is a priceless treasure🙌🙌 Thanks for this great peek into this awesome part of Rock history and tour…very cool to picture the epic moments that these walls have seen and continue to today 🤘🙌🖤
wow that is so cool!!! my dad took me inside as a teen along time ago, i was rlly obsessed with jim morrison. i barely remember it inside & really enjoyed this!
Thats an absolute gem of a place, bet its wild in there. Looks such a cool & intimate venue. All my fave 80s bands have played there. This is def on my bucket list to visit. Thanks for another frickin awesome vid Scott. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
At the age of 16 - 18 years old, in the early 90s I was a roadie for a band who played there from time to time. I thought I was so cool at the time. This video brings back memories.
Thanks for the tour of the whiskey. Back in the day my friends and I would go to the Starwood to see Y&T and the band that opened for them was Xciter. George Lynch and Mick Brown were in that band and they went on to play in Dokken. A lot of rock history on Sunset!
I’m from south east Asia and I grew up on so many prime time TV series in the eighties and was weaned on late eighties hard rock and metal into the nineties. I was in L.A. for the one and only time in the states in 2002. Could t miss the chance to take a tour bus and it went by sunset blvd. You can imagine how mad excited I was when our bus passed by and I managed to take a picture. This place is just musically legendary.

Pretty small actually

I was so surprised at how intimate the Whiskey is inside. A lot smaller than I imagined, but the sound must be incredible! 🙂
That's what originally shocked me in entering. The layout of the space and sound is pretty awesome.

What a place, it would be amazing to see some of those iconic bands ,just starting out.
Thanks Scott forthe tour. From Canada
With all the bands that played there, I assumed it was larger. Very cool tour of the iconic venue that launched so many bands career!
My signature is there 🤘🤘🤘🔥 its an honor to play in that historic venue! Im playing there again in march 2023 opening for Quiet Riot!
Great coverage dude!! Loved it!!!
Cool video! My first time playing The Whisky was March 18, 1988. Still one of my favorite venues of all time.
I love the Slayer photo with the SNFU (Legendary Vancouver punk band) sticker on Jeff Hanneman's guitar.
Seriously, WtF was that? Totally unexpected to see. But c'mon! They were an EDMONTON band until '92 when they moved to Vancouver. RIP Chi!
One of the highlights of my trips to LA was walking around on the strip & seeing the whisky, the Rainbow, the Viper room. Great video!!!
I always thought the venue was bigger than that inside. Brilliant vlog thanks for sharing ❤️✌️🏴
✨ rock is alive and well😎🎸✊
Awesome tour & interview @ the famous Whiskey A Go Go! Well done, Scott! Safe Travels!
great classic of rock history does any of those still come in or just memories but great pictures of how they looked years back good job like always lol 😚😚😚
In the 80s I went into the WHISKEYS BATHROOM ,and I was like oh my gosh I'M STANDING ON HOLY GROUND EDDIE V.H. ,DAVID LEE ROTH

The story of what happened after the oasis story is completely mind blowing. Your right Scott, I named a band immediately and looked them up. Yes, they played there.

Thanks man! What a beautiful trip it’s been! Johnny Rivers live at the Whiskey was my first introduction (my uncle bought all kinds of records back then) and it’s been a non-stop musical ride ever since!
Keep rockin’ baby!
I'd never live in Cali now with everything going on...great video Scott.
It’s great here, it’s a wonderful state.

Thanks for sharing this with us Scott! Great video!👍
Cheap Trick rocked this place in ‘77 for 3 nights just before they became world famous from Budokan and the rest is history✨🏁 They released a limited box set, Live at the Whisky 1977, of those performances and it is a priceless treasure🙌🙌
Thanks for this great peek into this awesome part of Rock history and tour…very cool to picture the epic moments that these walls have seen and continue to today 🤘🙌🖤
This is a place I would love to see myself. Lots of history made there. I am in awe. Thanks Scott ♥️

This is totally 💯 awesome. I need to go bucket list. Such rock N Rock history thank you you for the tour Far Out Man .
Thank you for posting this tour Scott! Great episode buddy.
Thanks for the tour of the whiskey. Back in the day my friends and I would go to the Starwood to see Y&T and the band that opened for them was Xciter. George Lynch and Mick Brown were in that band and they went on to play in Dokken. A lot of rock history on Sunset!
Great video!! Our good friend and fellow musician Tim Starace performed there with his band YYNOT a few years ago. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks from a hard rock fanatic since 1972! I can't travel due to illness so this is heaps cool & appreciated - Cheers from australia🤘👍
You are so welcome !!
Thank you for sharing the video, i enjoyed . Viper Room video some time ? since you pointed it out:) hugs from 🇨🇦 Canada
I saw Tora Tora play the Whiskey in 1992. Just being inside the place and knowing the bands that had played on that stage....
Living in the UK- Sheffield. This is very interesting to watch. Thanks 👍
