Bill Mack historical markers, Shamrock, Texas

Mack was a legendary figure in country music, but not as a performer (though he did record unsuccessful singles). His radio program gained him fame among truck drivers and country music fans everywhere. Mack was also a songwriter, having written the song "Blue" for Patsy Cline, but it would eventually be given to a then-up and coming teen artist LeAnn Rimes in 1996.
Nicknamed the "Midnight Cowboy" and the "Satellite Cowboy" when he made the switch to XM Radio. Mack was awarded several honors throughout his long career. He passed away in 2020.

Two interesting monuments close to each other are located near the top of the hill in Wheeling, WV. They are best seen going westbound on U.S. Highway 40, a.k.a. the Historic National Road. The Mingo statue was placed there in 1928 by the local Kiwanis Club. (It was stolen in 1982 but eventually placed back) Across the street is the McCulloch's Leap Monument, which contains some graphic detail.

One of four "S-Bridges" on/off the National Road in Ohio, this one was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1965. The bridge dates back to 1828 but has not been in use by vehicles or pedestrians since an ungiven time. It has been noted for being well-preserved. A roadside pullout with a historical marker is available near the intersection of Rhineheart and Bridgewater Roads.
