10 years later I truly forgot how good the show was back then. TWD back in it's glory days. Back when the show was just about walkers and survival. I miss episodes like this. Those were the good old days.

Or regret it because it made people think that the show would be leading in that direction, finding a cure or solving the issue. Since this isn't the focus of the story it really disappointed a lot of viewers and they stopped watching. It also basically stops the ability to ever make a cure, if the cdc can't do it then how could anyone do it without the technologies that the cdc has.
I wish we got a lot more on the CDC and how it fell.

It fell because the workers at the CDC decided to "opt out" as Dr. Jenner said... A lot of the workers ran and the one's who stayed "opted out" by committing suicide. CDC's all around the world when the power grid went out had backup generators but once those ran out of fuel the building exploded
dude the doc explained it , they all comitted suicide .
The episodes with Jenner were awesome. I love the exposition that he gave about what happened and that he mention France was close to finding something out. Too bad the show runners hated this episode and we might never know what France or perhaps any other country found out.

i really wish TWD had concentrated more on the initial stages of the outbreak and detailed how society fell from the zombie plague. everyone likes the emphasis of the initial stage of the outbreak anyways, at least the first 2 seasons shouldve been concentrated on that instead of going straight to the slow farm arc.

I felt that the CDC scene was absolutely critical to the show in the early seasons. Yes, it was truly iconic when Jenner told Rick that a day will come when he won't feel grateful for giving them a chance to live and telling him that everyone is infected. The CDC episodes really added more weight to the show as it transitioned to the next seasons.
I wonder if the French being the last to hold out is a nod to Luc Montagnier, virologist, and the discovery and definition of the HIV virus?

Since he promised his wife to keep looking for a cure it'd be cool if he somehow survived and is connected to the helicopter group since they've got some weird test shit going on it seems. This would also be good for the show since fans have been begging for an expansion of the virus lore since Eugene admitted he was lying.

Touchscreen, all-in-one, core 2 duo, beautiful display. I am typing this on that very same PC. It's way faster than my 2015 model Dell with an i5 and on par with my 2011 model iMac. The CDC had good gear, lol.

Great video! I loved Dr Jenner as he was such an interesting character to me especially as a season 1 character. That scene before his freshest sample was destroyed he seemed to be on to something and I saw him as someone really strong who stayed alive to keep that promise to his wife to find a cure. He thought it was the end of humanity and I would have loved to see what he thought of the new world Rick and the group have built over the years. I think if he lived he would have figured this thing out.

I feel like this was one of two things they really dropped the ball on with the show not showing the start of the outbreak cuz who doesn't want to see soldiers and tanks blasting zombies and more of government trying to figure out what was going on
They can always do flashback scenes, especially when the Common Wealth makes it's debut. They can discuss through flashbacks what happened and how the Common Wealth came into existence.
First as I’ve said before as it relates to the tv show. The CDC is Cannon. The words that Dr. Jenner whispered to Rick. Influenced so much of what he and the group did in seasons the remainder of season one and seasons 2. I agree with most of the comments the CDC story arc. Was the first place where The Walking Dead TV show deviated from the comics. And it would have been a great point to grow more Walking Dead mythology from. I wish there was more involvement with Dr. Jenner and the CDC. If #AMC is listening. This would be a great place to use a a focal point for a spin off. As a matter of FACT with me. I’d always hoped this is where Fear The Walking Dead would tie in or lead us to. But alas they went in another direction only to bend the two show together anyway.

Ok... this is really smth after you see the ending credits for The World Beyond.
I was at a parade on Manhattan's upper west side a couple of years ago and the actor who played Jenner, Noah Emmeric, walked past me and politely said "excuse me". I immediately recognized him but couldn't think of his real name so I tipped my cap and said respectfully "Doctor Jenner". It caught him by surprise and he turned and smiled as he kept walking. A couple of friends I was with looked confused and asked "You know him?" and "He's a doctor?". Once I said who he was they were all so upset they didn't recognize him too.

It's interesting that if everyone is infected then how did this happen (common vector), how long was everyone infected before the catastrophic worldwide reanimation apocalypse? Why didn't reanimation occur in small events as the infection profligated amongst the limited infected? That would have given world notification that the virus had regenerative effects of the dead & strategic decisions & actions could have been implemented ! 🤔

The GOAT of TWD Doctors Dr Jenner wish we had more of his character..he played a Doctor in a chris Pine horror about a plague that kills most of the planet and he was found trying to find a vacine on a group of children he had to kill them all in the end sadly with a magnesium overdose 😢but he played a very very similar role lol like all most exactly the same 😊
Candace Jenner is actually mentioned several times in the Walking Dead Survival Instinct. If you go to Cleburne, the hospital level, I think you can actually hear her voice.

1 thing that bugs me is if its already in the blood & you turn when you die, then why does a bite make you sick.

It gets exposed to the air causing blood to spill out and the virus being stuck inside you somewhere eventually leading to the brain
because a bite from a walker contains a live strain of the virus and it makes you sick, causing you to die and later reanimate

@@danoni2696 yes it explains it in first season I believe. Your already infected with the Virus and so when you die you reanimate. The bite or scratch from a walker probably has Bacteria and make you really really sick and kills you and since you already have the virus you reanimate.
Wish they would talk more about why or how this disease came into being and what went really wrong....

The thing is about "how this started" is that we'll never know. The creator of TWD said that he'll never reveal the cause of the zombie apocalypse. He says he knows, but he'll never tell.
In the comics it had to do with aliens and a type of nano bot that would cure alien tissue. It had strange effects when introduced to human tissue. It "healed" and regenerated the brain stem, and kept the zombies from falling apart within a few months being out the hot sun. This explains why the zombies do not go into purification states within the normal time that a corpse would naturally decompose. The nano bots within the blood stream slow the decay process, never really regenerating them to life as we know it. But keeping them as living dead.
But was never put into show cannon and was an off set of the comics itself. But this is the only known reason for The Walking Dead Zombie Virus, plague.
omg, where did u read about this stuff? i`d like to know more, it`s the main reason i`m still watching this freaking show, hoping that out of nowhere they explain the origin or maybe find a cure.
If you just google The Walking Dead Alien virus it will give you tons of hits and Alternate realities. Kirkman almost went with this for the show, but decided not to go this route as to give the whole thing a much more aura of mystery. Not to mention just about every other zombie show or movie, they talk about or try to a "cure". Where in the end, there is never a cure. The cure is just another plot device that is that carrot on a stick. Or a ray of hope only to be yanked away from you at the last moment.
I can say this about my gut feeling on the show. Eugene might have been "lying" about the human genome project, however there may be more truth than anyone might realize once they get into the New World Order arc. He was never part of it, but he seems to have the foresight and intelligence to lead the group to the right places, at the right times. Even if it was rooted in lies, he made those lies up for a reason, due to his knowledge.
Don't expect a cure to be found in the Walking Dead universe. As there is no reversing the nanobots that already in the blood stream. They dwell within the living too, humans only it seems.. Animals and other mammals are not affected in this universe. And once the person dies, those nano bots then go to work, and regenerate the brain stem, and slow the decaying process of tendons and other vital parts that keep these undead moving.
Other wise, undead would depend on magic for reanimation, to keep them from just turning into piles of goo within a few months, the muscles would give way and they wouldn't be able to walk or be any kind of threat after a short period of time.
It is a device, and why it was written in as an alien virus to explain the longevity of these undead walkers.

When he pushed the Comic he lied to the publisher and said "Aliens are involved". After a few publications of his work they asked when the Aliens will show up. And of course he came clean but at that point they didn't care because TWD was making so much money, it made no difference to them. This fact is also "Googleable". So he never intended the cause to be aliens. He just used the alien trope to get his foot in the door. And besides in the T.V series they payed a visit to the CDC. If it was an Alien nano robot they would have seen it clear as day.
And if they wanted to bring Aliens into it the deadly nano bot trope is kinda lame. I'd think a better one would be some remote alien probe from light years away crashed on the Earth's surface and by mistake brought an Alien virus that turned Humans into zombies.

I've being saying since then: he could have been anybody from the CDC janitor to a real doctor. Maybe somebody who know a great deal about science and medicine but also seems to be very clueless while conducting tests with the samples.
He said his wife was an like an Einstein in the field and he just works there. Although the credentials for the character say he was a virologist. He was careless when he spilled the stuff that led to the destruction of the T-19 samples. That could have been inexperience or just post-apocalypse-being underground-alone-maybe working 24hrs straight-type thing? - Thanks for watching!
All is well and good except for Dr. Jenner's reasoning in holding everyone hostage. The author states he does not know why. Isn't that the key question when dissecting that episode. I think it is. He seems like a good man except he wants to play judge, jury, and executioner. It's an outstanding episode that turns unbelievable.

I thought that was a cool thing to include - a good story piece - they sure would have never escaped the CDC without it.
I really think the whole first season or maybe second season of Fear should have revolved around the CDC Jenner his wife and their sheer frustration at not only not being able to figure this out, but not being able to stop it either.
Also, how government military and emergency management agencies, especially hospitals were handling it all.
If I was writing, I would have started the very first episode with Rick as the focus, being wheeled in after being shot. Then that focus shifts to one of the criminals shot in the first episode of TWD. He dies on the table while they are trying to save him. The ER staff knows whats going on, strraps the guy down, covers him, and wheels him into the basement as discretely as possible.
That first episode ends with a nurse, or orderly or someone gets bit and the hospital staff scrambles to keep the lid on it all.
The second episode starts similar to how fear does start, with the school full of people out with the flue (the actual initial infection). We then have a bunch of episodes with a fairly normal life, but with signs in the background of whats coming (like when the cops shoot the walker on the freewak offramp )
The last episode of the season, we find out this is a huge thing, it's been going on for several years already, and the powers that be are well aware of it. THATS where we should be introduced to the CDC story arch.
Also, lots of room for government cover up stories here.

When Dr. Jenner goes into the lab he does tests on TS-19. Then he accidentally spills something on the test sample TS-19 the lab goes into the decontamination mode.
Later Dr. Jenner shows Rick's group the MRI Virtual Camera TS-19 was his own wife after she reanimates after death.

I think the group could had easily gathered resources to keep the CDC / research going since that´s basically what they did the next 8 years: gather resources. If Dr.Jenner needed a freshly infected subject is not like it was a shortage of them out there, if he needed fuel to keep the generators going let me remind you this show had cars running around on inexplicable fuel for almost a decade, so what´s the excuse for such lazy writing?
I find baffling that the CDC or the infection was never mentioned or addressed ever again. Is beyond ridiculous that the characters never even tried again to gather some info about the infection or even try to communicate with some other research facilities around the country.
Sure...the show is bounded story wise to the comics but still...is a TV show therefore story development should work in a more logical/ linear way. The show strayed already quite far from the comics enough to do it´s own universe to ignore the infection fully. Instead we got almost 8 years the shock killing characters, stupid dialogue and also the introduction of a bunch of underdeveloped character arcs that went nowhere...
Who remembers the guys that protect old people?
CDC in Atlanta is not the only one. There are several others. Washington DC, Spokane Washington, San Juan Puerto Rico, and Anchorage Alaska , to name a few. And there is no telling how many that we don't know about.
maybe the commonwealth (in the show universe) used to be one of them, but then eventually reorganized themselves as "the commonwealth".
maybe the commonwealth even knew of dr. Jenner too.
i think why the ratings are dropping in season 9 is because the show is getting repetitive so they should try something new like mentioning the cdc or even managing to get into another country to find a cure for example they might find an abounded plane or boat and they tour other countrys to find a cure

Why didn't they just grab a walker off the street? Atlanta was full of them. And ricks group could have found a newish one.
That totally could have happened (and would have any other season version of Rick)....but Rick and the group were fairly new to the "walker" world still........My guess is that the Doctor knew the place was going to blow so.....he opted for suicide before Rick's group had even arrived. He was going to give them an easy way out also...because he knew the world had died....he knew there may never be a way to cure people....and the world was gone to sh*t already......his wife could not be brought back......he had lost hope by the time Rick got there. I asked myself the question what did he say Dr. Jenner told Rick that everyone has the virus there was always a secret that Rick never said ??? In short anyway, Rick is no longer there even though he left him alive, what's his use as he does not come back in the series again?!? a hope that is not a hope at all it's just to deceive the Fans ... it's very sad ...

if there was a cure, those walkers with no guts, legs or body parts cant be cured
a cure is only for the living (to not reanimate after death anymore) - the already dead people cannot be cured.

While I appreciate the value in the CDC episode, the entire point of the episode was to educate the viewers of how the virus works and also to help them better understand that there truly is no hope and that this is how the world is going to be from then on.
