Cawl was asked to put escape hatches on imperial guard vehicles to improve crew survivability. He saw how many crew men were dying in their tanks when bit and might have gone a bit overboard designing the escape hatch.

You could fit a grot tank in that hole, I bet imperium will get a mini tank at some point so when a rogal down tank dies, you get a mini tank in it's place, like tzeench horrors, so the mechanics already are in the game, they just need time to release it.
Modern tank designs have been moving towards having the crew suspended rather than standing on the floor of the tank as this gives them some protection from the shockwave of a mine or ied blast being sent through them via the floor. Gw have perhaps taken this a step further and put void shielding on the floor so the crew cannot use it for standing...
I still dont understand how they managed to make a vehicle thats twice the size of a leman russ, but still has all of the jank proportions. Its as dumb as the Russ at twice the size. And yet the 30k tanks coming out all look great.
I saw someone on either tiktok or reddit (can't remember which), where they used magnets for the weapons and used the bottom gap as weapons storage. But also, who is really gonna see the bottom of the tank on either the tabletop or on a shelf?
