      @@TheOuterCircle The Kagori "Assault" Tank.
Named after Marshall Kagori from the siege of vraks.
Ebongrave has a ring to it for sure, but the syllable count just feels too much for a "assault" tank. It feels more at home on a baneblade equivalent tank.
Kagori is short, sweet and direct. Just as an assault tanks intended purpose is.

Ebongrave is just better sounding. So the last picture of the video shows a tank in the back that looks to have no sponsons and headlight instead of the nipple guns. Could be wrong but I can't see the broadside of a barn when I'm 10 feet away.

I personally prefer the old Forgeworld designs - Macharius especially, but also Malcador and forgeworld versions of Russ.
There is something awfully wrong with proportions of this one, I can't quite put my finger on it. Same issue I have wityh Taurox and Goliath - something off, that makes them feel very... Toy-like for some reason.
Dorn tank... it is not terrible, but plenty of things I feel are off about it. And it overdoes it with dakka - not quite to the stupid level of Primaris vehicles... but it is getting there.

Ways to improve the tank with green stuff:
    1. Cover up all the various holes and tank traps, smoothing them out to an edge to actually maintain the cast armor look.
    2. Remove the nipple guns, cover up the holes with said greenstuff and perhaps place one of them onto the hull where the driver position is.
    3. Either outright remove the hull mounted cannon, make a cast position around it, causing to jut out forward a bit more but ensuring it has better armor protection.
    4. Place strips of green stuff on the various boltings. Either commit to the casting or don't.
And viola, you have a much better tank design.

Looking at just the front of the tank, there would have to be 3 crew jammed into that tiny front-left portion of the hull somehow. One demolisher gunner, one demolisher loader, and one stubber gunner. On the other side you need 2 crew as well, the driver and another stubber gunner. That is 5 crew squashed into the front of the hull, unless those stubbers are only to be used when the tank is stationary and not using the hull gun.
I have driven an IFV before, and there is not exactly a lot of room at the front for just two crew, let alone 5.

Created a tank designed to ambush enemy armour and be difficult to hit, but being very susceptible to fast moving forces like Dark Eldar, Eldar and flyers as well as infantry. But no, they went full retard and went with the R*ddit perception of the Guard... God, I hate nu-GW!

5:33 Early Tiger II turret (aka. "Porsche Turret" though it was made by Krupp) had a similar cylinder shape protrusion for the commander's cupola. There are other real life examples too, not to mention Imperial examples like the Baneblade turret, Macharius, and probably some more.
Advantages of a smaller turret is of course that it's smaller, so it's a smaller target and weighs less. But as you mentioned there's less room inside. Everything is a tradeoff when it comes to tanks.
Overall I'd rather see it look more like the 3rd party Mortian tank, which looks a bit like a baby Macharius.
It's not bad though, but some things are very typical of 2020's GW, like the extra nipple guns. Looks dumb, good thing they're optional.

    • @SubliminalEncryption

      @Panzergraf ปีที่แล้ว

@@SubliminalEncryption The 50 first Tiger II's had those turrets, yes. They were originally intended for another tank designed by Porsche that was never made.
It had drawbacks, but IMHO it was a very good looking turret design.
I still don't think the cylinder shaped protrusion for the commander's cupola is out of place on the Dorn, and as mentioned it's not even unprecedented for Imperial tanks.

The rear mounted Ma Deuce is for AA duties , the commander can swing it up and engage a aircraft as it comes in from the rear and not have to get out from his coupler , doctrines and tank design means the top and rear of a tank is not as thick compared to the front and a ground attack plane come in high and from the rear to take advantage of that weakness. Come main campaign in Europe after D-Day the luftwaffe was a minor threat due to air superiority, so those 50’s were used as extra ground support and then you get the image of guys hanging off the 50 while stood in the deck. Don’t forget tanks had coaxial machine guns and hill mounted machine guns for anti infantry use, MA Deuce is over kill when used in a anti infantry role and is outdated for use in AA role

I like the classic Imperial Guard tanks very much, but I do really like this new one as well. In my opinion it's keeping enough with the classic look while updating it a bit with more rounded shapes. I'm very "conservative" in my 40K taste and a lot of the recent stuff has been a miss for me, but for me this is one of the best kits GW has done in years. Overall the new guard sculpts have been very great I think, seems like GW knows that it’s a bit of a "grognard" faction and they are keeping close enough to the classic look. For me the rounding isn't too much so far, hopefully they keep it that way.
I'm a real tank nut, I served as a tank commander in the army and so I would prefer that the 40K and 30K tanks would be a bit more realistic, especially on their armanent setup, but aesthetically I really love what they have done with mixing WW1 and WW2 designs with futuristic elements, it’s a very unique and cool look for me. Even though pretty much all of the designs are mostly unpractical or totally unrealistic, they have enough nods to real historical tank design to pull the look off even for a tank nut like me.
Anyway, I have pretty much totally given up on 40k, but these new Imperial Guard sculpts, especially this tank, makes me want to start a guard army. I doubt I'll really do that, but that's how much I like it.

Didn't knew what the slits on the side are for, that was very interesting.
I noticed they are on the chimera as well but my idea was always that they were some sort of exhaust, it would make sense since they have the same WWl brit twin engine design going on, and them being high up would prevent mud or water entering the engine. Also there is no actual exhaust part in the chimera kit so it would kinda makes sense. They could have the same function on this one.

The nipple guns remind me of stuff like the early M3 Medium tanks the US built that had two fixed .30 cal machineguns in the hull - though they didn't last long in service because of the amount of feedback they got that they were completely useless. There's also crazy stuff like the IS-7 with the rear facing machine guns on either side of the turret, because somebody slipped an early batch of cocaine into Soviet Russia apparently... point is, there have been real world tanks designed with too much dakka.
On a different note, I kind of appreciate the hinged plate on the big hull mounted gun - it's not actually a good idea, but it seems to me that someone had the thought of "how do we do maintenance on this gun without having to pull the entire turret" - I like the thought process, but poor execution.

I'd mod and adjust some stuff if I had one. Either cut down the nip guns at the mount and re-glue to shorten them, or grab some spare bits and side mount to the upper hull like some old Russian tanks. And put the tow koos in their place instead.
Make a gun shield for that chonky hullmount gat/demo cannon.
Glue the smoke launchers to the turret instead. And fill in that mouth seam between the upper and lower frontal armour plates.
Just little things like that would make it a much more plausible design. Otherwise I rather like it.
Plus it's an amazing new Ork kit 😎

I like the idea of it, being something that will be far more common than a BaneBlade or Vanquisher (which I personally love the look of) and it does fit a role needed for the Guard and will make a nice addition to a three Russ squadron. The main gun with a twin las-cannon is a good choice as it at least will give space for the power banks.

The ridiculous amount of MGs from interwar American tanks: Check
    Multi barrel stupidity: Check
WWI style suspension that would be extremely outdated: Check
Protrusions on the turret that would probably be weak spots like the Tiger II: Check
Needing double digit crew count to actually operate the vehicle: Check
Weapons with near zero travel: Check
View ports in areas with zero practical placement: Check
A almost certainly useless howitzer built into the hull taking up valuable space like the Char B1 and Churchill I: Check
Using like 5 different munitions: Check
No apparent crew hatches for the driver and the half a dozen guys operating all the sponson and hull guns: Check
Shot traps at every possible angle: Check
Granted Warhammer tanks are at best stupid designs like the Malcador or the Russ (somehow a gun a man can physically crawl in is a 122mm), but they at least look believable if you squint your eyes. This thing looks like the kind of tank that would be a massive failure in universe like the Soviet t-35 in our own history. A massive overhyped “super weapon” that barely functioned.

Minor point of issue with adding in real world manufacturing qualms with 40k vehicles; These tanks would be made by mechanicum forgeworlds and/or under the supervision of the mechanicum. In regards to metal hardening, and difficulties in manufacturing, I think it's easy to just say "no no its easy to manufacture things to that shape and have a softer inside with tough outside."
The point of the gunner is definitely valid, and I'd simply say that it may not make sense in the real world, but I can see an Imperial Guard marshal being asked for feedback and suggesting they put it on the back so that an infantry squad could hop on the back in case the guy originally on it died. Guardsman life is merely a statistic resource after all.
You could counter with the point that protecting the gunner would be better, and at that point I'd simply concede and say that if it takes you out of the design and breaks your suspension of disbelief, then sure. But I'm willing to drop my standards a bit for rule of cool.
I'd also validate the design by suggesting it makes the tank look a little bit more like a stationary gun emplacement, as if the turret is like a barricade.
Whilst I'm typing this mini issue, I must say I despise the stupid gatling gun on the front. It instantly adds a bunch of barrels that really clutters the design. The mini demoliser on it looks much better. Not to mention the gun wouldn't be able to hit anything that wasn't another tank or building, and even then it doesn't look like it'd do much damage when compared to blast weapons which can also hit infantry easier.

Looks like an airfix model somebody converted. In general the new Cadians are a bit too modern military for my liking. Something about the knee pads in particular. And, of course, everything is new gigantic. GW keep 'fixing' things that don't need fixing, or rather narcissitic designers and artists keep wanting to make 'their' models rather than update the proportions and details of well-loved and tested designs. (Why anyone thought to redesign anything Juan Diaz made, for example, is beyond me.) Some of the designs could survive a change but others don't. The new helmets look stupid and are clearly a retro-inspire from the pre-3rd edition days before the Cadians really got solidified in their design.

The stubber placement on the turret makes no sense. The purpose of moving the 50 cal. back on US WW2 tanks was to allow it's use for AA duty, the gunner could crouch behind the turret and get more elevation. In this case (setting aside the dubious effectiveness 50 cal. against void capable aircraft because it's 40k) the stubber is too far forward on the turret to allow anything more than a 30 degrees angle. These machine guns are also meant to be crewed by accompanying infantry or someone from the turret crew, but we already see two heads popping through hatches so who is manning the guns ? Do they have a dedicated crew-member for staying outside the tank and manning this machine-gun ?

    • @redsampler2017
      @redsampler2017 2 ปีที่แล้ว

well they could be great against flying rocket orks or winged tyranids, an extra support gun is just good, the two guys popping the hatches could be the tankcommander and/or loader(s) of the gun(s)
model it however you want it,
you can change quite a lot on this tank from what ive seen, you can change the hull guns for headlights, you can add armour over the wheels, add or leave toparmour for over the tracks
its 40k and the imperial guard is plenty, should not be hard to find a infantrysoldier to man the 50cal (i know i would instead of being picked off instantly firing my lasgun) being protected somewhat behind a steel turret.
ill just imagine FURY when they go against the anti-tank guns to save the pinned down platoon.😊

Crazy that the Royal Navy invented tanks.
The royal landship commitee designed the ones used on the western front, then sent Royal Navy officers and engineers to the army to help develop further models, seeming as we were already manning the fleets and the army had loads of man power spare
Whatever designs came after from other countries or the same to improve (its easy to improve once you are given the basic master schematic) ..it took British engineers to bring them into existence when no others had thought to do so.
clearly the operational(not just nonworking concept) original wouldnt stand up to the greatest tanks of today or a nuclear bomb .....but you cant really compare the two as it would be similar to comparing a stick to a pully to pull someone out of water....one was the original, the other had far loger to be developed at a time of peace

  • @Jarms48

Shot-traps are meaningless in modern warfare. Modern tank guns using APFSDS ammunition can reach significantly higher velocities. the 44 caliber 120mm gun used by the M1 Abrams can shoot projectiles at ~1600m/s. Later models of the Leopard 2 using the longer 55 caliber 120mm gun can reach 1750m/s. At such velocities, if the fired shot connects against the enemy tank’s armour, one of three things will happen:
    1: The penetrator will shatter;
    2: The penetrator will embed itself inside the enemy armour but will lack the penetration to completely traverse it;
3: The penetrator will completely go through the enemy armour and proceed to do many terrible things to the crew and equipment sheltered inside the tank.
It's another reason why you don't see as many slopes in modern MBT's.

(and the for the machine gun on the back, on the sherman, I believe it was anti-air weapon, which ended up being a regular machine gun most of the time).

It looks like a cartoon version of a Vietnam era tank
The track style and the sponsons just dont mesh for me
It doesn't look like a product of STC technology
Also the Leman Russ tank was named before primatchs, back when he was just a badass Imperial commander

It's an awful design, sharing similar problems to the Executioner, i.e: too many guns in too little space. How I wish GW patterned it after the work FW had done, or even better had made something akin to an early/ prototype version of the Abrams to update it's aesthetic.
The fact it hasn't been shown with dozer blades or other tank accessories has me worried even further about its aesthetics and functionality (or lack of, depending on how you see it).
The 4Chan edits, turning it into Stugr to make the design work. Something GW clearly never thought of.
    Edited.
