  • We break down Mass Casualty Incidents, what comprises one, how they look, & how to run one perfectly. We talk about how chaotic these incidents can be & why its so important to establish the MCI quickly and correctly, with a clear chain of command. We break down a recent MCI (bus crash) that we both worked on together, and the unique circumstances surrounding that MCI. We show you why although every MCI is really kind of weird and different, the job is always the same & must be done in the same order, for good reason. We talk about mutual aid, too many chiefs, too many jurisdictions, traffic, the news, and all of the other things that can go sideways. You also get perspective on how these incidents are run in a huge metro area like LA. Danny also breaks down some of the aftermath of a recent 4th of July drowning save.

Hey fellas, love the show, have listened to all of the episodes, I'm a FF/EMT at a "large" (for our state) department in Eastern South Dakota. We're fortunate to have a Lucas on every engine or squad rig on the department. They work great, for most people, I've been on calls though, where the patient was too small and also too big. We make patient contact and begin manual compressions and then make a judgement call on whether the Lucas is going to fit the patient. Ideally we'll get a Lucas on, an iGel in place and the lifepak with end-tidal and its pretty automatic. Things calm down and allow the medics to have hands free and be more effective in doing their jobs. Good luck out there.

First off guys amazing episode! Been watching since I was in fire academy and now I have a year on with a department and am starting medic school here in a couple weeks! Just wanted to say that those LUCAS devices are bad ass, our department down here in Florida, has one on all of our dual-cert ambulances, and personally we've had a few patients with ROSC using those, so I think theyre awesome to have and every box should have one! Hope yall are staying safe!
