  • In this video we will be discussing what combination do you throw when moving to your right as a orthodox or in a more general sense, moving to your power side.
You will hear strategies from of the OG of boxing content, TH-camr/coach Shane Fazen from‪@fighttips‬ , 6x world champion ‪@GabrielVargaOfficial‬ , my favorite youtuber Icey Mike from‪@hard2hurt‬ , coach ‪@majined‬ from ‪@metrolinamartialarts‬ , ‪@KevinLeeVlog‬ from the Francis Fong Martial Arts Academy, TH-camr/Coach‪@SenseiSeth‬ , and Coach JD from ‪@keishidojo64‬ ‪@martialartsunlimited01‬

From a self-defense perspective: practicing a movement like this in a corner we're the only space to move is to the right teachers a really good way to figure out how to move out of a bad situation. You have no way to go back to safety you must move to a place you're not comfortable.
We did a movement like this a couple of years ago and there was a guy who was an ex Golden gloves boxer. He utterly hated being in that bad position. And it was less what you did with your hands and more of how you set up the stepping. Love the channel love this collaboration

Leave it to the karate guy to state the obvious about switching the feet. I can't tell you how many boxers and kickboxers brains I break because I switch so much without thinking about it because karate drills heavily about fighting from both sides

Ik. Boxing is the only style I've done where they emphasize staying in 1 stance. All other styles, grappling, capoeira, taekwondo, kickboxing, wingchun, etc we practiced everything on both sides. But because I've had some good boxing training, I've grown less comfortable with southpaw...sadly. lol.

Great content. I enjoy your appearances on IcyMike's channel too.
Because my background is JKD/Wing Chun, I train to lead with either hand. So if I'm right hand lead going right, I'll usually try to trap the opponent's left arm -- slap the guard (right hand), pin the elbow (left hand), and then strike with the right hand. If I'm left hand lead going right, its usually a Tyson hop after a combo that switches to a right hand lead.

I tend to do what Shane does, with the added tendency to keep a hand or forearm on their lead elbow so I have the option to pull that elbow away for a shot to the ribs, or just to gather information and stifle that lead hand. If anything, I think I move off to the right better than I do off the left. Bit of a hangover from my Wing Chun days, but it works for me, usually being the shorter fighter most of the time. Just makes sense, dealing with one of their hands as opposed to two of them. Seems particularly effective against people who like the philly shell, because their lead hand is usually more passive, making it easier to jam, and spinning off to their blind side makes it harder for them to throw that cross effectively.

I haven't boxed in years, but when I was boxing my hardest hits were actually when I was moving to the right. In my experience, going to the right is a gamble for who has the better rear hand (unless you're Orthodox fighting a southpaw, and everything is a gamble on who has the better rear hand).
So for me, and I'm a taller guy who was comfortable with his cross, it depends on range.
    1. If I'm in the center of the ring or a step away, I'm looking to manipulate that front hand and set up a cross. That is objectively one of the best attacks, even though it's harder to land than people think. If you're firing it off, chances are you're not having to defend one coming at you.
    2. If they're a little closer or backwards movement isn't an option, I'm looking to roll under and land a right hook. The timing is weird on this one, because they're basically all done at the same time. You think it would be "squat down, roll under, stand up, hook" but that's too slow. For me if I thought "squat-stand, rotate the hook" I ended up with a very tight hook that lands with devastating power (I was trying to emulate Tyson when he fought Peter McNeely if you want a visual reference. Watch the right hook he drops him with).
I can't say it worked everytime, but when that lands it lands like a Mac truck. Like you seriously need to watch those in sparring because you'll think you missed and unintentionally drop a guy.

For me, in the little sparring I've done, I've found success something similar to what Shane was doing, but after the 1 or 1, 2. Drop stepping toward's the guy's armpit. one i like doing, but... idk if its within boxing rules( since iam not a boxer) is how you would you and outside block our an outside parry, you flick your left wrist against your oponents left guard, while you step out, and then twist your hips for the cross or straight right.

Love the content. Camera man needs to get a wider wide angle lens, and film with a wider shot for stability. This will help you a lot. It gives the viewer more focus on the content instead of getting distracted because of the instability of the camera.
