I think you should start contributing to some of the various Wiki pages for these universes. Your research would go a long way. The Battlestar Galactica wiki is particularly bad. I think your Galactica videos provide more information than that entire wiki.
Galactica was, in fact decommissioned the day BEFORE the Cylon attack, which is why most of her fighters were destroyed by the Cylon virus + wall of Raiders combo attack. One flight pod had been so thoroughly converted into a museum that only the port pod was able to launch Vipers & Raptors, & receive visiting craft. The only thing that changed was that Galactica immediately returned to active duty. That's what made their jump to Ragnar Anchorage(?) so essential-- they had to raid that ammo depot!!!
Museum version of Galactica had fewer guns, less armor, skeleton crew. When it was built the contractor even cut corners in its design, But was still able to get back into service fairly quickly and was able to stand up to a fully armed Cylon basestar. Imagine what fully armed and operational Galacita could do?
The Enterprise would be wiped out by even a CR90 Corvette. SW ships are on average larger, faster, and more heavily armed with more powerful guns. Not only that, ST ships have stupid designs, with their engines and warp drives mounted in outboard pods, making them vulnerable, while in SW ships typically have such devices buried deep within the hull.
1. SW shields DO work. But since they're invisible, it's hard to see them working. They've been best shown in Rebels, with the Ghost being hit many, many times without sustaining physical damage, thanks to its shields. 2.On the subject of firepower, you are so wrong. One example I can point to is the Providence-class carrier/destroyer, whose point-defense ion cannons are STATED to generate the equivalent of 4.8 MEGATONS per shot: starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Providence-class_carrier/destroyer#Offensive_and_defensive_systems You also have the Acclamator-class assault ship, whose quad turbolasers are rated at 200 GIGATONS per shot: starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Acclamator-class_assault_ship#Offensive_and_defensive_systems It stands to reason that SW shields can easily handle firepower on such scales as these. Also, the only definitive photon torpedo yield I've found is 690 gigatons. Given that in SW, a single capital ship turbolaser is about 1/3 as powerful as this, such torpedoes pose little threat to an SW capital ship, such as a Star Destroyer. These are ships that generate more power than a star.
He said that the galactica took far more damage and hardships then was possible for its design it’s as if the very soul of the galactica wouldn’t die until her crew was safe
Fun fact: the Galactica's exterior plating isn't the ship's only form of armor. The missing plates on top of the ribbed section are de-capping plate; essentially an extra layer of armor meant to serve roughly the same function as a whipple shield. This plating is designed to be the first point of contact for incomming projectiles: and to absorb enough impact velocity for the projectile to break-up, and disperse its energy over a wider area, so that the armor underneath can better bear the load of the projectile. The Galactica is certainly more protected in the areas where the decapping plate is still present, but it's by no means defenseless. Battlestars are juggernauts that can withstand enormous amounts of punishment, this is why it's possible for one battlestar to take on multiple cylon basestars.
+Scourge claw Heck, I can only imagine the material used for the Galactica since it can still withstand multiple nuke hits even in its unarmored state...
Wait a second. Considering the amount of armaments indicated in the first cylon war does that mean that Galactica was actually under armed during the events of the second cylon war and subsequent exodus? If that is so then a fully armed and crewed Galactica would of been even more of a beast. Awesome video as usual.
She was being decommissioned and one of her launch bays had been converted into a museum when the Cylon surprise attack was launched, so to answer your question yes.
I had my issues with the BSG reboot, but their art department was on point. Really loved how they took the style of the original series and made it seem like something that would actually work as a hybrid battleship/carrier in space.
"Across the course of the voyage, the Galactica endured damage and hardship far beyond its design limitations" understatement of the century, I seriously wonder how much better the Galactica may have fared if it still had the armor and weapons as shown at 1:20 at the start of the 2nd Cylon War.
It wouldn't have traveled very far. More armor and guns would have been helpful, yes, but that's a lot more weight and mass to propel through the vacuum of space.
+Reality Rejection Service It would most definetly be an incredible upgrade. The mass of the additional armor and batteries is nothing compared to the mass of the battlestar itself, Pegasus was also heavily armored without having any major speed and range limitations. Plus, the armor and batteries would serve as an incredible booster when fighting cylon basestars.
Don't forget she didn't even have ammunition until docking at Ragnar Anchorage. She probably didn't even have proper fuel reserves and provisions. Her real strength was her Vipers, which were almost totally offloaded along pilots and support crews. Armor and weapons would have reduced the damage she sustained and most likely allowed her to carry on longer before the structural weakening occurred, thanks to the rushed construction. Having said that, with Galactica still a fully-functioning asset, some of battle group may still have been intact.

AvengerBB1 she was also at half strength. They mentioned that in the show a few times. Most of the armor and weapons were removed only one fully functional flight deck as well. Just think of what she could do in her fully functional and armed state.
If you look at the CGI model from Blood and Chrome, the Galactica in her heyday had about 3-4 times as many main guns and about twice as many secondary weapons than in the main series. Not to mention the armor and second flight pod and three times the fighters.
Basestars aren't made for offense, they're made for planetary bombardment, the only thing the Cylons thought they'd ever need to do with them. They weren't designed to chase ships, they didn't expect to need to, they didn't expect to have a ship maintain its offensive and defensive capabilities, that's why the Galactica was able to survive, the Basestars weren't designed to deal with them.

I just started watching this again on Hulu. I always thought one of the things they should’ve shown in the final episode was humanity putting a Viper Mk2 or a Raptor down on the dark side of the moon as a time Capsule of sorts for their descendants to one day find with a map back to the 12 colonies or something to assure the cycle would remain broken rather than hoping it would.
Jackie Charleston Chew Schwartz I get that they wanted to do what The original series did in that humanity came from another place other than earth and so putting the Galactica in plain sight like that just wouldn’t make any sense, but the ending could have been a satalite in orbit of the moon spotting a viper or hell ahead Six reading about the raptors discover instead of mitochondria Eve (boy, I remember reading a whole lot of heat on a bunch of forums on that one).
At the end of Galactica 1980 the ship did a tour around the Earth after destroying the Basestar that was nuking the planet. There were some good episodes of 1980 :)

As always, the quality of these BSG videos is outstanding-everything from the writing, voice, editing, video, etc. My only complaint, which is a common one as I’ve mentioned on other videos now, is the music being too loud. A common mistake by some TH-camrs...It’s just hard to hear your voice, particularly when using nice Bluetooth tech. Please work on this issue going FW as it will only improve an already stellar brand and product. As always, keep up the outstanding work!
If there are other fleets that survived, and all known Battlestar classes operating at the time of the attacks, I'd actually like to serve on a Valkyrie type. Kinda seems like a good ship, not like the mercury, but easier to get on.
The picture at 3:12 has so many ships from different sci-fi universes XD I was starring at it for awhile and got confused. I see a YT-1300, starship trooper unit transport, starship Enterprise, and the Quari (I think they're called) sphere frigate ship from mass effect in the back.
That's a picture of the Rag Tag Fleet. The people who did the cg for bsg included Easter eggs in the form of hiding famous ships. Some are original designs, that merely resemble other ships. Fun fact: They also had Firefly's main ship, the Serenity, have a cameo in the mini series.
God I love BSG and want something like it to return to television. Despite personally preferring the Mercury Class, any Battlestar looks badass as hell! Great video like always :)
I like to think the reason the Jupiter's retract their flight pods is not structural (since the ship is clearly very structurally strong) but because the jump drives at the time of her launch could not create a stable jump effect for a ship of her size. So for a stable jump field to form her profile had to be reduced. Hence why when Galactica jumps with her flight pods extended, the jump field would be unstable or uneven. We see in the series just how destructive a jump field can be when a raptor jumps in close proximity to Galactica. The damage looked worse than a nuclear detonation basically ripping through the armoured hull like paper. So when Galactica jumps within an unstable field it causes irreparable damage due to uneven field strength being applied to different areas of the ship.
That´s one spaceship design done mostly right. What i don´t get, tho, are the retractable hangars - an obvious weak point. Why not make the hangars static with retractable hull plates at the entrances?
there were only four of the jupiters that survived the war... its very sad ;~; R.I.P Galactica. R.I.P Athena. R.I.P Atlantia . R.I.P Prometheus the four survivors of the First Cylon war

Another great video :) .Judging by the way the Galactica and of course Pegasus wrecked numerous basestars throughout the show its a good thing the Cylons had a back door into the colonial fleets defense computers otherwise they would have had their asses handed to them.
lord aredhel imagine if the colonies stayed with a sense of insecurity for the 40 years before the second cylon war and built a lot of fully armed jupiters without the need of the CNP, I bet the colons are gonna nuke the ships instead of the planets but will all get wrecked by flak defenses
It's not that the Cylons built inferior ships. They just had a completely different military doctrine that favored lower-mass capital ships that relied on missiles instead of guns. (They could have built their own Battlestar type platform if they wanted to.) The Mk II Basestar also had the advantage of more advanced (meaning accurate) FTL engines and the ability to repair itself in the field. In a conventional conflict, I think the Mk II Basestar has the edge. The problem is that the second Cylon war was not a conventional conflict. Its aim was not to wear down Colonial forces or get them to retreat, but to annihilate them utterly. So you had Basestars designed for long-range contests of attrition used instead at close range in hopes of getting a few more missile hits through Galactica's flak screen before it could jump away. The result was a bunch of wrecked Basestars. But what did the Cylons care? They had the ability to download and resurrect, making combat losses meaningless as long as they had their resurrection hub.
The Jupiter Class is the Workhorse of the Colonial Fleet. The old tin can can’t be overstated when one says “the Galactica is capable of tackling anything. Even the kitchen sink.”
My one question about the Galactica: they had 4 years, and access to foundry and refining ships, why in the hell did they not remove the museum from the starboard flight pod and bring it online again? Hell, even if the magnetic launch tubes were gone, you could have at least had the flight deck for retrieving craft in battle, as a dedicated resupply dock, or as a Raptor launch deck.
Unlike the original series where all the Battlestars look just like the original Galactica the Jupiter Class Battlestar Galactica was a beautiful design.
This explained me a lot - I was always baffled how this ship has only 8 main arttilery bateries on top of hull. Now I know, earlier there was more turrets before stripping it down due to end of first war.
Can we have an episode about the Sobek Class battlestar? Technically it is a cannon ship, and its destruction plays a major role in the safety of the majority of the FTL capable ships in the "ragtag fleet." The Sobek Class was overall an updated version of the Jupiter Class ship and is, when fully armed and supplied, can operate for months and battle and destroy up to 3-4 baseships at once. Noted battles: Battle at Virgon: The battle that proceeded the escape at Ragnar Anchorage.
In each video you classify each ship by the type of physics it employs and the type of gravity it employs. Now, you've already done a video about artificial gravity in sci-fi, would you consider doing a video about the different classifications of physics categories? Because almost every ship covered is listed as Semi-Newtonian, although the Sulaco is listed as Fully-Newtonian. I'd love to hear you explain the difference between Fully-Newtonian and Semi-Newtonian physics in your buttery smooth voice.
In the Babylon5 universe, fully-Newtonian would be all Earthforce ships up to the advent of the Warlock class (The Victory class being an ISA design). Semi-netwonian would be things like Whitestars and Minbari vessels, which obeyed newtonian physics when maneuvering but had artificial gravity for the occupants.
Question, I just started watching BSG 2004. Unlike the 1978 series, this new series only shows CIC. Does anyone know if there is an actual bridge or is steering the ship also controlled from CIC?
What does she does for shielding? Unless she is programed to scan for and avoid cosmic dust when the vessel is in faster than light mode, how does the Galactica and the LATE Admiral KANE'S VESSEL AVOID hULL BREACHES WHEN THEY BOTH ARE AT FLANK without having hull breaches?.
Hey Spacedock, I've got a bit of a design question for you. I'm currently trying to create a Gen 3 Jedi Starfighter for Luke's NJO (for a friend's story), but I'm not sure how the Starfighter would evolve from both Clone War-era iterations. Any suggestions?
Just a quick note. You said "BS 75", but it's actually BSG 75. It stands for Battle Star Group 75. Unimportant, I know, but I felt like mentioning it anyway. Great video btw :D
BS-75 is the Battlestar Number, BSG-75 is the Battlestar Group. Most Battlestars have the same number for each as they are purpose built to lead their respective group.
On the TvTropes page for Battlestar Galactica, it states that the ship doesn't have a computer network so as to avoid infection by a Cylon virus. Would someone care to elaborate on this? Is the ship totally analogue?
Im still slightly confused as to the different appearance of Galactica in the show. All the vertical lines running along the ship, and the dorsal hull... it looks like its just straight missing hull plating where the beams are exposed??
The Galactica in the show was being converted to a museum when the Cylon attack which is why it lack armor, guns, ammunitions, a flight pod and vipers in the show
+Spacedock I would love to see you pit the X/F-302 agianst the colonial viper MK II (would probably be the better one but the MK VII would be alright to) just some food for the thought.
What they removed was effectively spaced armor, which can be easily put back on the ship if the situation warranted it. It was not part of the main hull.
Good info!! I’ve been doing a taste-tester of the BSG series and I’m wondering what the max range of an FTL Jump would be? SO SAY WE ALL:()()()()
TheThreethumbsup *mercury class. Pegasus is the individual name
abge lol i just woke up when i watched the video i can't believe i made that mistake I'll fix it.
The batte star galactic is great but with shield s. And energy weapolny be excellent
Thank you so much tib69 for the art work
If there are other fleets that survived, and all known Battlestar classes operating at the time of the attacks, I'd actually like to serve on a Valkyrie type. Kinda seems like a good ship, not like the mercury, but easier to get on.
Obvious but... So Say We All!
*(Pressing ear to the wall)* Its in the Frakkin' Ship!
So say we all!
IT"S ON THE FRAKIN SHIP!
The Galactica during the Second Cylon War in a nutshell:
Local Battlestar literally too angry to die
Excellent! I can spend all day watching videos on BSG ships
They really built these beauty's to be brick walls on the battlefield, any ship that can face tank several nuclear torpedoes deserves respect imo.
I see SDF-1 from Macross/Robotech there too...
th-cam.com/video/bfYYsONZhns/w-d-xo.html
3:10 Does anyone notice the SDF-1 and Serenity in this picture???
I'd love to see an updated version of this, with the new spacedock visual style.
2:57 is it just me or are there multiple easter egg ships in this picture?
Was about damn time!
Love to see video about all the vipers from mk1 to mk7 and how they changed
Thank you for another great video video, Spacedock. Would love to see on the Phalanx from 40k, or a fleet breakdown on the imperial navy.
So long Galactica.....😢❤️
That´s one spaceship design done mostly right.
What i don´t get, tho, are the retractable hangars - an obvious weak point. Why not make the hangars static with retractable hull plates at the entrances?
When I get really old I want to build a life sized replica of this ship and then release it into the ocean and laugh for a number of reasons
there were only four of the jupiters that survived the war... its very sad ;~; R.I.P Galactica. R.I.P Athena. R.I.P Atlantia . R.I.P Prometheus the four survivors of the First Cylon war
Should do a video of Galatica from the original series
Another Great Video! Keep up the great work !
A long overdue ship in my opinion.
Can you make a video about a Wraith Hiveship?
I would like to see Wraith Hiveship versus Battlestar Pegasus video
Would love to see one about the wraith hive
anything done in stargate is hard to pin down as it is usually made up as the need arises then forgotten about
"toasting the Jupiter class"
I'm dying 🤣
12 original Jupiter-Class Battlestars:
Galactica- The first Jupiter-Class commissioned for Caprica; Flagship of Colonial Fleet/ 75th BSG during First Cylon War. One of three of original 12 to survive conflict.
Following Armistice saw former role decline to reserve fleet service. Final jump 20 years before outbreak of Second Cylon War; which time Galactica was due for decommission to museum ship.
Final command under William Adama during decommission. Re-commissioned to service following the Fall of the Twelve Colonies/ destruction of Colonial Fleet. Saw extended service for additional 3 years from interrupted decommission by the Fall. Suffered damage from age/ battle as result by late Second Cylon War. Becomes the last battlestar led Colonial survivors on search for Earth during Second Cylon War. Final Fate: abandoned/ scuttled after final mission to accumulative damage; Which time the last battlestar of entire Colonial Fleet met final fate scuttled in Earth's sun.
Columbia- one of the original 12 Jupiter-Classes built after Galactica during First Cylon War. Commissioned for Virgon ; Flagship of 53rd BSG.
Fate; destroyed in Operation Raptor Talon of First Cylon War.
Atlantia- one of the original 12 Jupiter-Classes commissioned for Gemonon ; flagship of 17th BSG. Survived conflict with sisters Galactica/ Rycon.
Continued service Colonial Fleet's flagship of Colonial Fleet over following Armistice. Survived initial Fall of the Twelve Colones. Led survived fleet's counterattack at Virgon;
sisters Solaria, Themis and Triton among fleet who joined counterattack.
Final fate: Disabled/ Destroyed by hack of Cylon-infiltrated CNP.
Cerberus- one of the original 12 Jupiter-Classes commissioned for Canceron; Flagship of 99th BSG. Fate; destroyed in First Cylon War.
Athena- The fifth Jupiter-Class of original 12 commissioned for Picon; Flagship of 10th BSG. Possibly survived conflict to continue service over following Armistice.
Final Fate: unknown; decommissioned/ destroyed by time of the Fall of the Twelve Colonies.
Acropolis- one of the original 12 Jupiter Classes commissioned for Aerilon; Flagship of 95th BSG. Fate; Destroyed in First Cylon War.
Pacifica- one of the original 12 Jupiter-Classes commissioned for Aquaria ; Flagship of 79th BSG. Fate; Destroyed in First Cylon War
Prometheus- one of the original 12 Jupiter-Classes commissioned for Leonis; Flagship of 22nd BSG. Fate; Destroyed in First Cylon War.
Rycon- one of the original 12 Jupiter-Classes commissioned for Canceron; Flagship of 32nd BSG. Survived First Cylon War along with sisters Galactica/ Atlantia. Resumed service over following Armistice. Fate; destroyed by Cylon attack from Fall of the Twelve Colonies.
Solaria- one of original 12 Jupiter Classes commissioned for Tauron; Flagship of 47th BSG. Joined Atlantia's counterattack with sisters Themis/ Triton during Fall of the Twelve Colonies.
Fate; destroyed by Cylon hack of CNP.
Themis- One of original 12 Jupiter Class commissioned for Scorpio; Flagship of 24th BSG. Joined Atlantia's counterattack with sisters Solaria/ Triton during Fall of the Twelve Colonies.
Fate; destroyed by Cylon hack of CNP.
Triton- One of original 12 Jupiter Class commissioned from Saggitaron; Flagship of 67th BSG. Joined Atlantia's counterattack with sisters Themis/ Triton during Fall of the Twelve Colonies.
Fate; Destroyed by Cylon hack of CNP.
I love that they made the pods retractable for FTL travel.
Please make a video on Earth Spacedock first seen in Star Trek III .
I like the MC80 Liberty, but. . . I grew up watching the 1978 series. THAT Galactica was awesome. No slur on this one, though.
At 3:10 the Millennium Falcon joined the colonial fleet on the right. Nice Easter egg.
It would be interesting to know what the tonnage weight of these are. I reckon it's around 1.2 to 1.5 million tonnes at guess.
Noted battles:
Battle at Virgon: The battle that proceeded the escape at Ragnar Anchorage.
3:15 top left corner... Babylon 5, under that is Serenity and various other non BSG ships
Great video as always
The Battlestar Galactica, what a lady
BSG has by far the best ship designs of all of sci fi in my opinion. I love the battlestars so much
In each video you classify each ship by the type of physics it employs and the type of gravity it employs.
Another great video guys. Happy Halloween everyone
You just sank my feelings about today's episode. I would never realise without you, that 🎃halloween🎃 is time for some creepy bioship
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS I've been needing this.
Finally my favorite ship type and class
Love what y'all did with the Jupiter class. I was vurious if you'd read the stories written by R.A. Keeton about the Battlestar Prometheus?
does anyone have a high res version of the background that appears at 2:26?
Would you ever considering do a Spacedock video or two on the Metroid or Star Fox universe ships?
Can't wait to get my hands on this Behemoth in Deadlock.
Best ship in the fleet
Question, I just started watching BSG 2004. Unlike the 1978 series, this new series only shows CIC. Does anyone know if there is an actual bridge or is steering the ship also controlled from CIC?
Ship is steered by an officer inside the CIC, can be seen in the Pilot episode, when the Galactica flies to Ragnar Anchorage
@@fifaisscripted Got it, thanks. 👍
I'd love to see a redesign of the Galatica. The crocodile head isn't cool.
Another factoid I’d like to know is the makeup of the shielding... if it can withstand a nuke strike and the occupants can survive the rads... how???
14 minutes ago? We've got the jump on them now!
SO SAY WE ALL
What does she does for shielding? Unless she is programed to scan for and avoid cosmic dust when the vessel is in faster than light mode, how does the Galactica and the LATE Admiral KANE'S VESSEL AVOID hULL BREACHES WHEN THEY BOTH ARE AT FLANK without having hull breaches?.
could you do a video on the Mercury class battlestar? its the class that the pegasus was.
He did: th-cam.com/video/vE8DwUGdKRM/w-d-xo.html
What is that piece of music in the background called? I checked Battlezone II and found nothing, but I assumed it was from RDM's BSG. Help, anyone?
Hey Spacedock, I've got a bit of a design question for you. I'm currently trying to create a Gen 3 Jedi Starfighter for Luke's NJO (for a friend's story), but I'm not sure how the Starfighter would evolve from both Clone War-era iterations. Any suggestions?
Anyone else who spotted the Constitution class Federation starship , the Millenium Falcon and Babylon 5 at 3:09 ?
Was the ribbing on that ship supposed to serve as some extra armor of sorts?
Could also serves to dissipate the shockwave from nuclear explosions.
And now I feel like a dumbass. Thanks for the info.
a beauty of a ship
John Da Costa Id rather say a Valkyrie on steroids but yeah, they're all great ships
AWESOME VID
On the TvTropes page for Battlestar Galactica, it states that the ship doesn't have a computer network so as to avoid infection by a Cylon virus. Would someone care to elaborate on this? Is the ship totally analogue?
How did the Roger young become part of the ragtag fugitive fleet?
Excellent!
Can you do one for the Mercury class? I would like to know more about the Pegasus
Can you make a video on the Raza from Dark matter?
Why would you remove armor from a battle star? Would that not be very hard? Would not the armor be part of the ships backbone?
studinthemaking I would assume armor=/=hull so you can easily maintain/replace armor after engagements
What they removed was effectively spaced armor, which can be easily put back on the ship if the situation warranted it. It was not part of the main hull.
Lennis01 What did they do with the armor they took off? Use it to build new ships? Put it into storage?
Good info!! I’ve been doing a taste-tester of the BSG series and I’m wondering what the max range of an FTL Jump would be? They flashed out of What they call Astral Body M8 and ended up here in the last show (if I’m remembering the navigation correctly ??🤔) that would seem like a long jump to me... like across the galaxy?! Any thoughts - look forward to replies & Merry Christmas!!
They have artificial gravity so do you think that helps them avoid turnover some type of gravity drive?
Exo Squad - Exo Fleet Flagship; Resolute (II)
Can you do an episode on the Nova class Battlestars?
Can we get the adamant class from battlestar galactica deadlock or kongo class from space battleship yamato 2199 please?
One volunteer for anime expansion told me, that Kongo would be easy for him to make (or I at least understood his answer this way). We've got to wait for now.
About fucking time.
