Jan, great comparation choice. You are always spot-on. I love you honesty in your taste tests. You are real, concise, trustworthy and down-to-earth. Also, you are up to date.
I really appreciate your reviewing affordable sardines that everyone can find. And I really appreciate GV offering sardines at such an affordable price for everyone. That said, I avoid soybean oil as much as possible. It's highly inflammatory and damaging to your health. Better to have the sardines in water. I tried the Crown Prince sardines in water, but they were very scaly. I don't mind a few, it was a lot. I ended up feeding them to the local crows (who don't mind scales 😅). These look very promising. Love your channel! 🐟
Feeding the crows made me laugh!! Yeah I don’t like that oil either, but I’m going to try everything for everyone since we all differ so much in what we like or are willing to pay for. I’m glad you like the video and I appreciate your comments. New video tomorrow! 😁
Excellent channel and reviews ! Thank you for your work If you see the NW Polar tinned Sardines at this retailer, take note they have a Cancer and Reproductive harm warning on the label. Baltic Sea harvested by Latvia. I don’t see Polar on their website today but still are on Amazon
@@scotsirish4194 Thank you so much for checking out my video! 😊. I’ve seen that warning on several cans. What’s up with that?!?!? I have a bunch of cans of those Polars too.
@@SardineExpedition I looked at the Amazon reviews of NW Polar Sardines after buying a can at Walmart and seeing the warning label. The Great Value sardines in water are my go to. I lightly saute them in evoo, crushed fresh garlic, umani seasoning, onion salt, and red pepper flakes. Sometimes I'll saute them with sliced cherry tomatoes, add a drizzle of balsamic glaze and eat them with sunnyside up eggs. So good. 🤤

We agree! Walmart sardines are very good. I'm burning through my stock of oil-based tins and concentrating on the water variety now. I can add my own oil or hot sauce to my satisfaction. Thanks!
Awesome to hear! I love that there are so many options with sardines and so many ways we can experiment with them and mix up the flavors. Thanks so much for watching!!!
Thanks for watching! The GV are decent and for the price you can beat it! Have you tried the Trader Joe’s in water? I wonder if Aldis are similar since they are the same company?☺️
The real trick is removing the lid without flinging water or oil across the kitchen! Wild Planet are my favorites. But at 3 times the price, i am open to less expensive options. How do these GV sardines compare to the Wild Planet? Thanks for this video. SUBSCRIBED
@@krazmokramer the GV are soybean oil, so that’s the kicker. Going on taste alone, I’d get the GV over WP just due to the huge price difference. The GV had a smoky taste that the WP doesn’t have. It’s an artificial smoke but it was there. If the oil matters though, that’s a different story. I’m going to review as many as I can and see what all is out there! See what the best option is without soybean oil. But for $1.00 the GV in oil we’re pretty good. Then there’s always the option of water or adding your own good quality oil.

@ Sounds like you’ve got a nice sardine haul coming!!! I haven’t tried a lot of canned salmon as I get it fresh here in Alaska, but I’ve got some to try!!!
I can't eat anything in water anymore for some reason. My taste buds have changed and like you said in one of the other videos the water tastes like pond water and I just can't do it anymore and that goes for tuna too.
I loooooooove sardines. Usually I'll do a can of tuna and a can of sardines. Much prefer both in olive oil. The Season brand of skinless/boneless sardines from Costco are my current favorite. You can get them by the brick. Yummy. Salt with black and/or cayenne pepper is my jam for seasoning.
That sounds good with the seasonings!!!! I just did a review on the Season sardines! I compared it to an old can. The oil difference was pretty wild! 😜
surprised how firm these look but they are pilchards so i guess that is usually the case when in a mild liquid. def not going to go out of my way for these but if i had to get some walmart deenz in a pinch for camping or whatever i'd probably get these. thanks for showcasing these, its good to have some info on the viability of these cheap fishies good review thanks
I like all walmart sardines except the ones in water due to the fact that they are firm and hold up well. Plus the flavor to me is better than some cheap brands. If I had a can of the ones in water, I would grab the Tabasco 😮
I was pleasantly surprised by GV sardines, while I dont eat them often I try to introduce seafood like this into my diet once to twice a week and these were really good for the price.
I guess I'm a sardine brand snob...🤣🤣...like I said before, you're much braver than me....I do Walmart products but not canned meat...but that's just me...carry on.
My preference is always sardines with bones and skin. Tiny tots, with the fins are not a favorite. Eat to live, means get those sustainable fish into your diet.
funny story about the Monterey Sardine canneries- the Chinese community would ask the sardine companies for the heads and tails and the companies were so happy to rid those parts- they later found out that they were grinding the heads and tails and making a very decent fertilizer that they sold to the agricultural farms in the Salinas valley, and the revenue far exceeded that of the sardine companies....clever eh ?
