Massive respect to a company willing to put out a video that confirms something doesn't work as people would hope rather than waiting for people to buy it and found out for themselves.
When Sony made the SSD slot usable they said it had a 4 TB maximum. When you came out with your 8 TB SSD I figured you were just hoping that Sony would decide to increase the maximum capacity accepted by the console. I purchased the Sabrent 2 TB SSD with the heat sink and have had no problems with playing games using it. There was only one issue that I had, and I am not certain that the SSD had anything to do with it. The PS5 already got very hot. Adding the SSD and the heat sink seemed to make it hotter. So much so that I began to experience the screen going black in the middle of gameplay. After replacing the HDMI switcher that I use to switch between consoles and replacing cables thinking that maybe the cables were the problem, I discovered that the real problem was there was so much heat coming out of the PS5 that the HDMI cable where it plugs into the PS5 was getting too hot. I have a small fan, I think it's a 9 in, that I plugged in and set it beside the PS5 at the rear so that it would blow air onto and past the back side of the console. It solved the problem. The PS5 stays nice and cool now and I don't have any issues with the screen going black anymore. Again, I don't know that the SSD and heat sink really had anything to do with the problem. It just seemed coincidental that I started having this problem as soon as I installed the SSD and the heat sink into the PS5.
It could well be that it's just a coincidence. Or a spot-on diagnosis, because their alleged active fully working & heatsinks, aren't in any way effective whatsoever. Accept to turn your this latest gen's PlayStation, into secondary, make-shift, bmw m8 looking, secondary cooker. But I'm glad you posted a out. As it help greatly decision as tother with x2 8tb m.2's x1 internal, & x1 placed within an external enclosure. So approximately 16TB to play with, as we all, see fit. But regardless of that. Sony's PlayStation Division hasn't released any info, news or updates to make these things accessible, in the first place, so it makes the point of having x2 8tb m.2's mute-point. All this & I've got to see about my XBSX also. And work out, how I can max-out it's memory too. The joke is, before all of that memory madness, I bought a wd 29tb external 3.1 hard drive. Only to find out, now, obviously that both the PS5's & XBSX's maximium'fof external hard drives, were way off too, 😂
I'm so glad I'm not the only one with this experience because I paid 300 for a 2tb fircuda 530 with heatsink and I have same issue with heat i just dont have the black screen like you mentioned ive done exactly same thing with the fan. I think the problem is sony wasn't thinking about what they were doing at all when it comes to having a extra hard drive the effects it would have on the console its self. I think this is exactly why it wasn't unlocked a launch I believe they experienced problems when testing I just think the heat that it throws out is too much for the fan I mean the bay is verry small and there is little space for the heat to go anywhere its definitely a design flaw
8tb maybe overkilled. I’m considering to buy a sdd 2tb or 4tb. But after learning 4tb could hold up to 100+ games. I owned PS2 and PS3 and none of these consoles have 100 games. I owned 12-15 titles for PS3 and 10 titles for PS2. I sold half of my PS2 games back in the day. So if I bought the largest capacity but never use it all and could be a potential waste of money but then again if I do use up all 4gb and I would need to buy another SSD which is double the dilemma…. Update: Just got the 4TB version and there were 2TB left of space for 15 titles including PS4 & PS5. That means I can get 15 more titles over the course of its 10 year lifecycle!
I wish Sony had already updated PS5 to support bigger storages like the 8TB SSD and more then 8TB HDD since it would be great to have like combined 16TB+ 😅

4tb is not enough for ps5,i have a ps4 with 2tb and with alost 140 psychical games i can only install like 40 to 50,remember we're talking about like 50 to 100gb games,so in ps4 2tb internal and maybe 3 or 4tb would be enough,if we want to install all well like 6 to 8tb external,as for ps5 6 to 8tb would be perfect since in ps4 for example a game ask for 40gb and ps5 version, same game would be for example 70 to 80 to maybe enhance graphics,so 6 to 8 would be perfect for ps5 if Sony want to do it right.
Got 9tb on the ps4 and they half filled cod games nowadays take up 100-200gbs got hundreds of physical games and about 300 digital from ps plus, but yeah the new standard should be 4tbs and max should atleast be around 20tb, cause ain't no fkin way I'd be able to switch my entire ps4 library into my ps5 on top of future ps5 games. Hope they improve it on the ps5 pro like multiple expansion m.2 slots plus a regular hdd/ssd slot for ps4 games with improved cooling
8TB currently costs way over the price of a PS5. Too much for a console. Although I do use 2-4TB sticks in my PC for my business and hobby. The prices need to come down much lower just for a stick of storage.
Wonderful video but i think you guys should give thos another shot as an uodated video and see if it works now. Apparently Sony Unlocked 8TB for M.2 Expansion now. I got a 4TB drive and its already half full. So i would love to upgrade to an 8TB as long as someone can legitimately prove it works on Video. 😊
Really not fair we have to pay for “storage sizes,” to begin with, remember when we had unlined storage for free, they have to make money off us, fleece us, for everything we got, not to mention how fast even 4TB. fills up.
Smart but it’d still be capped at the base 1000mbps usb lane though. But it’s not bad since 8tb is a large amount and the power necessary since it’s in an NVMe enclosure is minimal compared to a HDD or SATA drive. More economical for a low end PCIe 3.0 M.2 if they make it in 8tb rather than just buying a 4tb SSD SATA drive like WD Black p50 which is insanely fast but expensive?
Question: do you think that the 4TB is enough to download more than a hundred games? I'm getting the ps5 soon and planning to upgrade the storage to 4TB immediately because I wanna catch up on all the games that missed in the last 4 years. Originally planning it at 8TB NVMe, but it doesn't work for now.
No. I have the FireCuda 530 4TB w/ heatsink and it got full VERY quickly even with just PS4 games before I added an extra external USB drive. After I did that and ONLY put my PS5 games on my console and M.2, I can confirm there’s much more space but it all depends on what kind of games. If they’re like CoD games that are 100gb per game, probably not. If they’re like mine where the average is 45gb, probably. But it all depends on what you play and how you intend to store your most used games and PS4 games. I know I kept going back to an external drive but it’s a good alternative for space also for older games and it ended up allowing me now to have 75 games in my console storage and 1.25tb left to download whatever else. Hope this helps with your decision. I’d recommend the 4tb drives though, especially since they’re like half the price of what I spent for one when the feature launched.
I put my ps4 on an external ssd reads and writes at 1000mb or just under. The ps5 has usb 10gb on front and 2 usb at the back also. I use my 4tb m.2 for ps5 games. The ps4 games load alot better than on the ps4. So much quicker due to the cpu mainly. Even a good external hhd will make a major difference. Some read at 250mbs. True they abit more than the cheaper ones but still good. I did use an 5 bay hhd running raid 0 that had usb 10gb too. Just as quick as the external ssd. But that was just for laughs.
I highly recommend creating a Google Sheet and going through each games that you own or interested in so that you can figure out how much space you need. I would recommend having all PS4 games on a HDD since PS5 can support up to 8TB which I made my own list and have at the moment 490+ games written down with about 368gb of space left for PS4 games alone. PS5 games don’t take a lot of space compared to PS4 but depends on what those games are like the other comments have said.
its been 1 year, i wanna see 16TB nvme in ps5 by now..... yes most of us cant buy it or need it, but it should be done....tech has to advance every year and old tech needs to come down in price.
Shit I'm with you bro. I need an 8-16 TB otherwise I should just get a PS4 for PS4 games ONLY and PS5 for PS5 games ONLY. If I can get a massive amount of storage then I wouldn't need to get a PS4 🤔

Bro 200 wayyyyy to cheap. For a decent enough price at 8 tb considering most are 200 for 2 tb anyway is around 700 quid cheapest. @@Deltax5 yeah I know like the main advantage of an ssd so high is more so for people needing to transfer and work with large files for work and shit I would think not to installl like 6000 games 😂, I see where your coming from and it would be nice for it to be cheaper but there’s just no logical way it would be that cheap for an ssd of that size. I’ll admit 1500 is overkill tho Also an 8gb ssd is mainly there to be future proof too I would assume , given that some call of duty games in full can amass to 250 gb , and games are only going to get bigger so in around 10-15 years I wouldn’t be suprised if the first 1 tb game comes out. That is if we haven’t all moved to game streaming by then
I have the the 2TB with heatsink and absolutely love it. But I feel like I’m going to need more space. It’s a shame that 8TB doesn’t work yet. But since you can’t use it yet, can I please have yours Mike. I would love to have when it becomes available! Help a bogan out! Lol
Once the 8TB is working in the PS5 it’ll be going in there, for now, it’s going in the pc lol nice try though David 🤣 Glad to hear your loving the Sabrent combo!
That's a bold and risky move is it not? You are one hundred percent relying on sony to deliver an update before this ps5 branded product will work on a ps5.....
It’s not a PS5 branded product at all. It’s a Rocket 4 Plus SSD that is compatible with the PS5 (up to 4tb) but it’s a PC SSD, SSDs have more than one use haha We have no affiliation with Sony Entertainment. So nope, not bold or risky 👍 just an entertaining and informative video for our audience and customers, plus we had this question so many times, we thought it would be easier to have a video just explaining it 😊
Ya do know that ya can use a PS5 SSD in a pc, laptop or even as in external storage right? The only difference between a PS5 m.2 and other m.2 drives is the heatsink
@Sabrent USA Official A technical question: Does your sabrent nvme drives take care of {garbage collection} through the controller or does the PS5 OS take care of {trim} ?
Thanks for the video. Now I know the max capacity of a ps5. This isn’t good. I have 4tb ssd in my ps4 pro and library is still growing. I’m almost sure when I do get the ps5, I will need 8tb internal storage. I don’t do external. Buying into these systems these days is an investment. And so we must do it right for performance sake. Internal storage performance is clearly better than running external.
So this shows you can only expand to 4tb but not 8tb on SSD? But the comments says it can now,. I'm buying the slim version maybe on xmas and maybe with an 8TB external chocolate bar. .COD takes all the sapce on my current ps4 :( LOL buen video, saludos desde México.
No it needs to be atleast 16tb cause that's what ps4 can support plus an additional 8tb for ps4 games. The 8tb sibernet ssd the guy using is like a grand. Also the ps5 can support over 10tbs of space however the internal expansion slot looks like it only supports 4tb worth of ps5 games and you can add an external hdd/ssd but that only supports ps4 games and you can't put ps5 games to it
@@mortiarty7842 the PS4 does not support 16TB it support 8TB you can install a 8TB inside the console and use a 8TB as a external hard drive and combined you have 16TB of storage to use I know it because I did that I have 416 something PS4 games and combined they take up around 12TB and had to install some of them on the external hard drive even though I had a 8TB SSD hard drive installed on my PS4 but it could be nice if you could install a 16TB SSD Hard Drive inside your PS4 and I don't know what you mean with the PS5 support 10TB but for now I just want them to release an system software update so you can install 8TB SSD Hard Drive on your PS5 and yeah I wouldn't mind if they made it so you could install 16TB

Once the 8TB is working in the PS5 it’ll be going in there, for now, it’s going in the pc lol nice try though David 🤣 Glad to hear your loving the Sabrent combo!
@@SabrentUSAOfficial hopefully Sabrent has been contacting Sony to advocate for this! :)
Well thanks for the tip, lad. I will stick to the 4TB Solid State Drive as the wise decision.
outdated video, the new firmware allows 8TB now.
@@hondaryderz I am using my curiosity.
Have you done the 8tb update?
Thank you, I was very curious about this.
What's that nifty screwdriver?
These videos are so well done! Excellent work
Now that we can us an 8TB SSD make a new video?
@sabrent
The only difference between a PS5 m.2 and other m.2 drives is the heatsink
thanks for makin This video
When the storage is more expensive than the PS5 itself.😂

@Sabrent USA Official
A technical question: Does your sabrent nvme drives take care of {garbage collection} through the controller or does the PS5 OS take care of {trim} ?
8 TB is coming Soon 😅
8tb for Ps6! Calling it!
Will Sony eventually patch their System Software to allow 8TB SSD 🤔🙏
No. They’re going to make that an exclusive feature for the ps5 pro so they can force you to buy a completely new console.
@@AAP0000 Hmmm, no way Sony does that
There will be HUGE backlash
All Sony has to do is update the system software
We shall see
@@LurkerDood They don’t care. They can get all the backlash in the world and they know their GayStation 5 Pro will still sell out
@@AAP0000 We shall see but I don't believe Sony will make us buy a Pro if we want to have 8 TB or more for the SSD 😆 🤣
Can u try it now?
I need a update if it works now with the recent ps5 update
A simple "no" would have sufficed 😁 but thank you. Are there even 8TB of total PS5 games on the market?
You are a very good looking guy :)
Good video for rich people who can afford 8 tb memory
Need more m.2 slots not just one oand at least one for hdd/ssd for ps4 games. External drives should have no caps
He dude where did you get that screwdriver from I need one of them ?
Does this work on PS5 now?
Sony about to update the storage capacity to 8tb. Will this ssd be on sale?😏
Btw don't you need to use a heatsink anyway? I know that would matter for whether or not it works bbbuuttttt
New video ?
Yeah it's really a dream
Thanks for the video. Now I know the max capacity of a ps5. This isn’t good. I have 4tb ssd in my ps4 pro and library is still growing. I’m almost sure when I do get the ps5, I will need 8tb internal storage. I don’t do external. Buying into these systems these days is an investment. And so we must do it right for performance sake. Internal storage performance is clearly better than running external.
I thought you could just get an 8tb external usb hard drive?
I would've settled for a 6TB but I guess only 4... awesome.. :/
The Playstation 5 needs to support up to 8TB Sony needs to make it happen and does you 8TB SSD Hard Drive cost?
what does your hard drive cost?
Where can I buy that screwdriver
Do I need the sabrent heatsink or can u use the normal one?
4TB cost $449, that is wayy too much money to spend just to save some time by a couple seconds all because it's faster😂😂😂
4TB now costs £168. Super cheap and affordable. Used to be £480.
What is the 110 in the SSD SLOT like why is there so much room like the big gap in the slop with the ssd
Dang, I need 8TB
Who could possibly need 8tb lol, hell I only have 3 for my PC.
It cost $1199 on Amazon
4TB is good enough for me on PC.
Sony updated it to allow 8TB, time to do redo the video and feature me in it 😊. 6:10
Is this legit!? Not that i plan on spending $1000 but it’s always nice to know😅
This is not correct. The 8 TB SSD Pcie still does not work in a ps5.
there has been new update, that suports 8tb, i wanna see that video and try 16tb to....
Any updates on this?
Quando vai ser lançando no Brasil?
Pcie gen4 or later?? Wow!
