  • Rep Fitness PR-4000 Power Rack Review. I think the Rep Fitness PR-4000 is the best power rack for a home gym. In this review I will discuss the rack and accessories in detail. I think power rack is an essential item for a home gym. If you are looking for the best squat rack for a garage gym, this is the one to buy. Starting at under $700 for the base rack, it is an excellent value. I paid just over $1,100 for mine including accessories, upgrades and shipping. I looked at a lot of different squat racks for my home gym before settling on the PR-4000. I ultimately narrowed it down between the PR-4000 vs PR-5000. I made the decision to go with the PR-4000 because they were both 3x3 tubing with 11 gauge steel. Both racks are rated for 1000 pounds. The PR-4000 was less expensive and all the accessories are less expensive. The PR-4000 is a customizable power rack and has tons of accessories available. I opted to get the flat sandwich j-cups, strap safeties, dip attachment, landmine attachment and multi grip pull up bar with my PR-4000.

Fabulous and detailed review. I have a couple of questions. Does this rack need to be bolted down? (I don’t want to bolt mine down once I decide on which one to buy.) Also, do you know if REP has an adjustable pull up bar (that can be moved up or down the uprights?) Price wise this rack is awesome and within my budget.

Which size strap safeties did you order? I heard the REP ones have way too much slack. REP says their 30" strap is actually 34" in length, whereas Rogue says their 30" is 30", and Titan says their 30" is 33". Yours doesnt look too bad at all...

Which ones are easier and more convinient to use the Flip down safeties or the strap safeties for rep fitness rack? What are the advantages or disadvantages of using one vs the other one??
Also should I get pr4000 or PR 5000 vr2 rack? I can also get the same attachments the PR 5000v2 for the PR 4000 right?

    • @liftthebarbell2434

Took about an hour to put the rack together. Rep Iron plates are just okay. They are inconsistent in weight. Some are 46 pounds. Some 43. Actually the 2.5, 5 and 25s are good. The 45’s not so much. Some are the 45’s are rough feeling and some have sharp pieces on them that’ll cut you. I’ve got a review of them coming soon

I'll let you know once I get all of my gear in, as I ordered the same PR4000 rack that Matt reviews here and ordered the Monster Lite Matador. The lat pull down seems to come and go quickly and they have the 93" version in stock now, but I'm still waiting for the 80" version to show up in stock. It's like a full time job trying to get equipment during this time! Marty A - the Rep rack reviewed here, as well as the PR5000 are both 3x3 11 guage steel, same as Monster and Monster Lite racks (respectively).

Matt Burnett - yes, I have most of my gym set up already and will put up a review video soon. As for the Matador, I’d say it fits just as well as the Rep dip bar does on your rack. One thing I did that I was going to show in my video, was applied some felt adhesive that one would use under furniture legs. It makes the matador fit a bit more snug and helps eliminate some of the play/rattle. It worked like a charm, but it was a challenge finding some thin enough at Lowe’s. Matt, you might appreciate the barbell rack I built (I too do some woodworking).

Thanks for the detailed review brother. I have the rogue s2 squat stand and was looking to upgrade to a cage system. Pretty much watched brandon campbells series of videos on which rack to get and narrowed it down to the REP ( HR5000, PR5000, PR4000 and a Rogue RM3 ) There are alot of pros and cons to each rack. Even though availability is a current issue nowadays, im gonna leave that out of the equation since i am in no rush. Pros of the PR vs the HR series is the ISO Arm compatability. REP at the moment has not put out any info on ISO arms stability with a HR. But i figure if you have weight horns in the back with full weights and leg extentions in the front i dont think it should be a issue. Along with that is upgradability. With the 4000 and 5000 series having lat/low attachments and belt squat compatability, it makes for a amazing system. like yourself, 5/8's and 1 inch hardware doesnt really bother me because the attachments are available for both sizes mostly. Watching your video has pushed me very close to siding with the PR4000 series for the reasons you pointed out.

Thank you for your honest review and insight on this piece of equipment. Like you, I believe we will be hit with a 2nd wave of this virus and I'm not looking to go back to my gym, even though I miss my gym workouts terribly. I am late to the game and didn't really give a home gym serious consideration until last month and everything everywhere is sold out. However, I have been looking at this and some other cages and even ordered a shoddy cheap cage from Amazon out of desperation, but I'm likely going to refuse it when UPS rolls up to my house and just make the investment in sound & sturdy equipment. Again, thanks for your review, as there aren't a whole lot out there on this particular rack (independent of REP, anyway). I will also check out your blog for additional details and insight.

So this is equivalent to the Titan X-3 except more expensive because of the shipping. Scratch that, the Rep Fitness PR-4000 is 200 more than the Titan X-3. That's of course before shipping. So it's probably a $400 difference. Both have West Side Spacing, 3x3, and 11 gauge steel. I'm going with the less expensive Titan X-3.

Good luck. Hopefully it arrives undamaged. I ordered a squat rack from Titan - damaged during transit returned to shipper by Fedex. Ordered the X-3 rack - damaged during shipping returned to shipper by Fedex. Ordered weight plates - arrived at 5-6% tolerance instead of the promised 2% tolerance. 3 strikes and Titan is out for me lol
