  • Summit Lake is a high mountain lake in Oregon at 4,200ft elevation. The water source is from rain and snow melt off making the water crystal clean with tropical coloration.
    This lake is special due to the short open season starting around June and ending in September. Unfortunately, the mosquitos are especially bad until late August to September making the ideal enjoyable season extremely short. In addition, the road access is rough and rocky. There are multiple routes to the lake but all of them are off road “high clearance” 4WD type which is excellent.
    Paddling is required for the full lake experience so bring some paddle boards or kayaks. For those backpacker types a popular overnight camp destination is Berry Island. Be sure to respect campfire bans!
    We are looking forward to returning and paddling the lake after mosquito season.

    If the forest service isn't going to pay you, the least they could do is outfit you with more badass forestry equipment as a thank you for keeping the trail usable. ;-/ :-D

      That would be accepted! We certainly have pushed our Dewalt pole saw. We may share another video... removed a 3ft diameter fallen tree. That took some effort!

    Side tip for climbers looking to summit Diamond Peak. Dont take road 6010 to the south access, but take the trailhead on the west side called rock pile trailhead. Avoids that whole nightmare of a road

    • @TruckCamper
      @TruckCamper  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      True. That's the easier route... but we look for the challenge roads

    Loved this video. Appreciate the offroad footage with a camper as I am dreaming up what would work for me! Love the footage as you air up (No one does that!) Although this wasn't the craziest trail, would love to hear your updated impressions regarding the off camber top weight! Thanks!

      Thanks!! Appreciate the encouragement. Our camper has a fairly low center of gravity (even though it is tall). We have a 40 gallon water tank, camper jacks and storage under the camper which helps keep COG low. We only use upper cabs for light items, no roof AC and flexible solar panels to keep top heavy weight "lower". Overall, it is really good especially for the height. Really a pleasure to drive on rough terrain and technical roads... height is always a consideration and slows us down with tree branch removal. Hope that helps!

    Looks great you guys. Yeah...those bugs can really be a party pooper. Here in Colorado they're pretty dumb, but I've noticed in Oregon and especially Alaska they possess large brains...they actually strategize, those damn things. In Alaska, if you think your camper is sealed tight? It isn't...those things will find a way in somehow.

    • @TruckCamper
      @TruckCamper  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      True. It's crazy depending on the time of year. Arizona is great for the lack of mosquitos. Leavitt Lake was incredible (no bugs) but that was 9,500ft. Think we would do alright in Alaska but would likely just install tight mesh screens for the lower hatch doors and run the vent fan on exhaust. Probably wouldn't deal with opening windows... Bugs! Bla.

    Nice Vid Guys! We have probvably the only F250 / truck camper in Western Europe, there are about 4 Superduty's (2017 and younger) in my country and I've never seen a truck camper (except ours, a Lance 825). Question: what make front bumper / winch combo do you have mounted? Do I recall you took the airco off? Whas it only for sway / weigt reasons or anything else? Just curioous! We love to see your vids, 'woish we had so much wilderness over here.... Thanks!

    • @TruckCamper
      @TruckCamper  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Appreciate it! We are running Warn Bumpers and Smittybilt X20 12k winch. Not sure what the airco is... but we did remove the sway bar. It helps allow the suspension to move freely especially off road.

    How's the superduty holding up? It's almost time for me to buy a new truck and use mine hunting fishing camping in the Rockies. I want a superduty but my crew cab f150 seems big on most trails I beat the heck out of it dents scratches ect. My thinking is the superduty will be tougher than the f150 but not quiet as smooth or nimble. Whichever I wind up getting will definitely have a longer bed then my 5.5' I have now.

    • @TruckCamper
      @TruckCamper  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's been working great! Super Duty is much beefier and HD. Shorter wheelbase versions like ours are much better for turning. Aluminum body is doing great. White paint durable and hides scratches. F150 is more carlike. But Super Duty easy to modify and better off road. Hope that helps!
